It's down hill all the way
jotatb-104-5766488 September 2019
I watched all 3 seasons and this is my VERDICT:

Season 1 - 8/10 Interesting idea, well developted, intriguing and funny sometimes Season 2 - 6/10 The boys are back in their real world and the script doesn't know what to do with them Season 3 - 3/10 New cast, disastrous script

See? It's downhill season after season.

First two seasons great, third terrible.
claire-carson15 March 2019
This would be 10/10 based on the first 2 seasons. Absolutely enjoyed it and the character's were brilliant. Completely got into it and there was so much potential in the third season to bring these characters back, so many unanswered questions and stories to be had. Then i started watching the third season, terrible new characters, bad acting, what were the writers thinking? Bring back the old gang and storyline!! Definitely watch first 2 seasons and avoid the third like the plague.

How to ruin a good thing
sakurako-718-3064186 July 2019
The first 2 seasons are a solid 9/10. We are introduced to actual characters with distinct personalities and we get to watch them grow and change. The jock-bully becomes a protector, the attention wh*re learns to forgo the spotlight(or at least tries), the loners learns to ask for help, the logical science nerd embraces magic. Their motivations and personalities are clearly outlined, we get to see the effect they have on other people and how other people in turn affect them.

Then, season 3 happens. "in Series three we meet a whole new bunch of heroes who find themselves trapped in a totally empty world. We are proud to introduce a brand new cast which reflects a diverse and truthful portrait of Australia today."

Yes, Tony Ayres, it shows. We now have the black kid, the gay kid, the girl and the disabled kid. The girl is remarkably Mary Sue-like. Not only is she "the best player" on the school football team but she's also the best student and she's pretty and popular. Oh, and she's got more upper body strength than the boys. She also gets control of her magic really fast because she's just so smart and all, right? The gay kid has exactly 2 traits. He's gay. And he likes musicals. Because all the gays do, right? The disabled kid is the one that really makes me go "w0t?!" So, he's dyslexic. And nobody knows. There's a 15 year old kid who's somehow managed to fake he can read for the last 10 years and all the teachers were fooled?! But that's not even the worst. He's a 15 year old buy who hasn't figured out how text-to-speech works on his phone. The black kid is the most developed character of the 4 though I can't see a lot of growing potential in him as the outlined traits are not something that'd need to be changed. If anything, the plot of the series proves him right.

The first two seasons are epic, but the third is horrible
jevonlondoner-156826 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Nowhere boys is a adventure, comedy and mystical teen show about four teenagers who get deeply lost in a forest, than find out when they back that they have super mystical powers.

At first I thought that this show wouldn't be that good, but, this show is very hard not to watch after the first few episodes. The characters are very funny, it has a great story line and as the seasons go on the creator provides excellent tension between the characters.

The only problem is the third season. Where do I start...... all of the awesome characters form the first two seasons disappear without a trace. Awful new characters come into the show and it's absolutely nothing like the first two seasons. The story line if a little different and the characters have no chemistry whatsoever.

To conclude, Nowhere boys is s great show filled with laughter, action and emotional scenes, but unless you wanna be disappointed, stick with the first two seasons.

great first two seasons. awful third season.
mshavzin19 December 2016
I didn't have great expectations, but it was very easy to get hooked on this show. It was fun, and the interaction of the characters was really wonderful. The more it concentrates on the original four, the better it works. Unsurprisingly, when they introduce us to the new cast of students, chosen with the very little fun, and lots of super political correctness, all charm is lost. We get the typical urban black guy, the gay drama student, the feminist chick, and its impossible to care about any of them. It should have ended with the book of shadows. So very typical of how things are forced into a mold today. Thanks for ruining a show I liked from childhood.

Seasons 1 and 2 OK, season 3 "don't mention it!"
alinutzasdk24 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I would have liked to be able to vote separately for the seasons.

The first two deserve, but the third one seems to me a total failure. season 3 is not worth: "Don't mention it!", so bad it is. Why they did it, I do not understand ... Actors, characters, etc. are forced, they do not fit! My ratting is 4 for the last season.

Refreshing
ErinNavan4 January 2014
The show is nicely done. Actors are well cast. I don't think I could pick just one, all four of them really fit the roles. Dialog is age appropriate and, although there are some stereotypes, they had been written well and in funny manner.

I really enjoy each and every episode of the show, and the fact that there is real dose of unpredictability. There is magic. There is science. Unlike other shows of similar type, which base either on one or another, "Nowhere Boys" really allow themselves large spectrum of possibilities, which they use in such manner that things don't get boring.

And just when you think you got it - something new emerges.

Good!

It's not the best show ever, the effects could be better but yet it gets you addicted to the story and to the kids. Too bad the show dies after the second season. The rating o have is based on the first two seasons which is the complete story and the original one.

Amazing Show !!!
dame0713 July 2014
I am from the UK and I absolutely love this show. I was looking around on IMDb for science fiction shows similar to the alternate reality TV series, Sliders and came across this show.

At first I was sceptical but after watching the first 2 episodes I was hooked and I just wanted to keep going and watch the rest. Each and every episode was fun to watch and it wasn't boring and predictable like most science fiction series are.

I seriously hope they make more series because this show is amazing and the cast is great and the actors are really great together.

I implore you to take a chance on it. It really is a great TV show..

Entertaining
brenzbrenz12 April 2022
Maybe not the best acting or special effects and was kind of childish, but it had a great story and I found it very entertaining and I binged watched the whole season. I'm guessing since it came out in 2013 there is no season 2? I guess will never know what happens next! Edit, just realised there are 3 more seasons. Too bad Netflix didn't share them all. Edit... just realised there are 3 other seasons, it's too bad Netflix didn't share them all!

Season 3 a flop in comparison to Season 1 and 2
suckstofacebook6 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Previous to season 3 I easily gave this show top stars. Season 1 and Season 2 were both excellent viewing experiences. However, I've stopped watching now because Season 3 is a flop. The acting is terrible, the story line patched together poorly, and again the acting is terrible (cannot repeat that enough). After watching 3 episodes of season 3 I felt this show was a waste of my time.

If this show makes it to Season 4 after a Season 3 ripe with bad acting, and patchy writing I'll be shocked, but then again crap TV shows like the Kardashians, and "The Real Housewives of _______" manage to survive season after season, so perhaps the good TV is out, the crap stays alive in well today.

Loved this show, but 1st&2nd season only
M8K9S4 December 2018
Very refreshing, but I was sad that the main cast stories got over in 2nd season. The third is not for me, watched one episode but couldn't finish it with full attention to the story..now just need to check the movie with the main cast..

Takes forever to get started
chasingimmersion8 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
They spend the first 5 episodes determining and then accepting that they are, in fact, not in their own world. The next 5 episodes are dedicated to them determining and accepting (immediately) that magic is real and they should use it to get home. The last 3 episodes build you up to think that they're going to embrace their elements and have a cool magic battle against the big bad, but then they just go home.

And then the 2nd season starts.

It was so frustrating to sit through 13 episodes just waiting to "see the magic happen," but it's not until the 2nd season that the guys start doing anything with their powers (or anything interesting with magic, for that matter).

I just hope the 2nd season spends less time on exposition and over-rationalizing potential explanations for the guys' scenarios. Rather, I hope it just bursts open into a show where teenagers with magic powers start acting like teenagers with magical powers and start using them on the regular. Otherwise, I will never understand how this series got a movie.

On the plus side, the actresses in this show all seem to do great jobs with their performances. The principal cast could pick up a tip or two on emoting and delivery, particularly from Darci McDonald, Tamala Shelton, and Michala Banas. Also, the show isn't bad (and even looked like it would take an interesting stance on youth homelessness and bullying for a minute there) and I did enjoy the atmosphere of the show. It just sort of muddled about for too many episodes and then underwhelmed with it's displays of magic and the threats the guys faced (really though - those "killer" dogs were kinda cute).

Being less harsh on the show, I do have to say that I am looking forward to catching up on it and checking in on the 3rd season when I can get my hands on it over here. I guess I just have a soft spot for magic and superpowers :P

The first two seasons are ok. The third was bad
blackkikki11216 July 2019
The show is OK. It could be very good.. But unfortunately the acting is terrible.

If they made a remake of this show where they had some good actors, better visual effects, and a little better dialogs... Then this show could be awesome

The third season is terribl.

Very Pleasantly Surprised
tinevisce4 November 2017
At the outset, I should mention that this review is only for the first two seasons: I fell in love with the original cast and I refuse to watch the third season which replaces all my favourite actors.

I remember watching the first episode sometime way back in 2013 or 2014 (around the time when it first aired, I should think) and then promptly forgot all about it. (I'm in India where it's rather difficult to come across Australian programming)

I found this again on Netflix two weeks back and I was hooked!

No praise is enough for the crackling cast: and they're so young! As far as I could see, they more or less were the age their characters were: and that was such a pleasant surprise compared to the 30 year old's playing at 16 on the CW (*cough* Vampire Diaries *cough*) Everybody played their parts amazingly well with no hint of camera awkwardness etc. A talented, good-looking bunch of young men and women- I hope they'll go really far in the industry.

I'd also like to commend the writers for creating really down-to- Earth characters (no angst-for-the-sake-of-angst nonsense American teen shows indulge in) who were likable! I loved seeing teens with more-or-less well adjusted lives with the usual problems with relationships; because that's what reality is usually like, right? I genuinely grew fond of the characters and rooted for them throughout the two seasons.

The plot-lines were also really well-done and kept me guessing a lot of the times. Nicely done!

The witchcraft bits, I feel, could have been better depicted or written- the show made it a tad too campy...but that's all right, really.

Highly recommended

Best show!
mariamrsaheed9 January 2014
I absolutely love Nowhere Boys! Its my favorite show! The best thing about it is that it was set at my school! Although the name was changed to "Bremin High" just for the show. I'm really hoping they make a season 2 because its such a good show, and very addictive to watch. Also the casting is great and the actors are so nice and generous. My favorite on the show would be Felix (Dougie Baldwin) I really can't wait till next Thursday to watch it and see what happens! It just keeps getting more and more interesting day by day. Well done to the directors and producers for making this wonderful show! It's more than perfect!!

Great family television
billcallinderscott-26072 January 2016
Like many others who love Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy TV and movies there's little around at present to interest me. So when I read the synopsis for this show on another site it looked interesting enough to give it a chance. Even though I had no idea initially that it was targeted at teenagers it quickly became obvious that they were the target audience. Regardless I continued to watch and after a few episode of series 1 I was pleased I did. The young actors started off looking a bit nervous and tentative but I was pleased to see their confidence in their roles develop and quickly they were very good indeed. As is common the adult actors did their part in making the shows very watchable.

The story lines were strong and after each episode left you wanting to see what happens next. The special effects were good and were used very well to add to the production values of the show. As a person who left their teenage years decades ago it was very watchable and much better than a load of TV series being broadcast at present. A show that will please everyone in the family. Of its kind I'd classify it as exceptional.

Bad move
elinekman5 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I am gonna be honest. At first, I thought it would suck. AT FIRST! But I'm proud to say that to this day it's still obe of the best shows I've watched. The words "divinity of the elements, I summon thee" are forever carved into my heart. Never in a thousand years could I ever decide who was my favorite of the og 4. I feel they made their personalities to fit the elements so good and I can't even begin to understand how much time I've spent on that show.

Therefore I am much too sad to announce. Season 3 was and still is, a flop. I had been waiting for so long for them to get my boys back and give them the proper ending they deserve. But I never got to see one, since they brought in some new kids and destroyed the good name of nowhere boys. They took in new characters that all were was to politically correct. A big part of their charm was that they were so soft and goofy. I am so disappointed :(

Was good until series 3
kim-slater30 May 2020
This is a nice non violent series made for the teen market. Good story, although been done before with better special effects.

Watched through two series then hit series 3 and was so disappointed, I only lasted 10 minutes into the first episode. Whole new bunch of characters that had no meaning, were unlikable and no substance.

Series 4 needed with original cast to make this credible and worth watching.

Seasons 1-2 and 3-4 should be rated separately.
TheRealToonamiTom4 December 2019
Season 1-2 was very good and enjoyable to watch. Season 3-4 only cares about identity politics and the story takes second place.

This should be considered a whole different show and be rated separately, because it feels like the last two season are taking the credit given to the first two seasons. Most rating high on here are for the first two seasons.

Ten for the first two seasons, nothing for the last two.
thomasjayscott25 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first season kept you guessing and enthralled, with believable characters you could find in any school who seem to be stuck in a unbelievable situation, at the end it literately becomes a magical ride. Second season comes along and its the continuation of the characters you are now wholly invested in and is great, good story line, experiencing the flip side of the world that you experience in the first season, leaving you looking forward to the next season. 3rd season, they through everything out the door, trashing any momentum the show had from the previous two seasons. In a blatantly bad attempt at copy pasting Glee rip-off characters and pasting them into the show. The first two seasons and the reality of how many people are able to perform magic being small, the third season makes what Sam, Felix, Andrew and Jake abilites and seem like regular everyday occurrences. As if Opera did a magic powers episode and was giving out magic aptitude and abilities. "You get powers, you get power, everyone gets powers." So if you are interested in watching the same first two seasons with Sterotypes of nearly every character in Glee and nothing original, then you may enjoy the token black kid, token Lesbian kid, Token gay theater flamboyant kid, and Sheldon and Leonard's humorless, non sarcastic love child from big bang theory do a mock up of the same two seasons we already watched. This is a remake, and nothing more. Accept they didn't wait a decade to remake it, just next season.

Fantastic
kidztruth17 May 2019
I was in 11 when the first season came out and have loved it ever since! the first 2 seasons are written and acted beautifully and the film that came afterwards was also great! Season 3 is certainly the worst part of the series with the whole recasting and 2 returning characters but is somewhat bearable. However, season 4 that has all the characters from season 3 and briefly brings back 2 other characters from the first 2 seasons, and is written better, and does make up for some of season 3. Overall LOVE this show, especially seasons 1&2 and the film.

The rating is just for Season 1 and 2
MaryMila18 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is a fun, entertaining tv show. I started watching season 1 and 2 via Netflix, because I don't live in Australia. Hence, I saw it a little bit over a year ago because they didn't have it before. As many other fans that live away from Australia, we were quite unaware of what to expect in season 3, but since they left season 2 with a nice cliffhanger, I was kind of expecting to see some follow-up in the new season. Next thing happen: Netflix got season three, promoted as 'new episodes', so I sit in front of the screen, and... and watched an episode of an entirely different show. The four main kids that you see in that picture here in this website, gone. Their parents, gone. Oscar, the kid that had that awful accident which triggered the whole heart-breaking search for helping him, gone. But they left the same city, the same school, and the same teacher, and one female character from the previous seasons. Oh. And the same title for the show. And they just assemble a bunch of super politically correct cast forcibly representing as many possible trending minorities in such an obvious, annoying way that it didn't feel natural, normal or accepting. For instance, you've got the angry overachieving feminist, (please don't think all feminists are like this), the diabetic kid that is ashamed of being diabetic (really? in the 21st century?) or the dyslexic kid that can't read but somehow was able to go all the way up to year ten without any teacher noticing anything (and of course, he is also ashamed), and you also have the smart savantic kid that is ridiculed most of the time. And I also feel like the main storyline of the first season was really powerful. There was a reason for searching for magic, a very good one. But in this third season, well, it's all about fighting random demons, jumping between universes without much explanation, not much elaboration on how or why things happen, and special effects. It is a pity, because the first two season felt Australian. Innovative, creative, surprising. And the third season just felt... like another standard fx forgettable American film built on a tasteless recipe. I'm disappointed because it looks like they just sacrificed a good story for the sake of marketing. And I saw the entire season three, so I know what I saw.

I've never loved anything like this before
princessnikota27 May 2019
This is the single best show I've ever seen! I usually despise Australian tv but this is the most wonderful exception! The acting is beyond solid. The characters are potent and thrilling. The storyline is NEVER boring and never is it cheesy (well maybe the demon head twisting haha) I love Felix and Jake and Sam and Andy and I never want season 1 nor 2 to end because that would mean saying goodbye :( Do yourself a favour watch this show. Now.

Great for kids!
jhmoondance4 November 2018
Mmmm I've watched 3/4 of season 1 n got really bored but then I'm not a teen or preadolescent. It's good for that age bracket but so undermining that a well knowledgeable teen won't buy into it. It's good that the story has made it to 3 seasons but if you're a true fan of sci-fi n a strong mind and imagination then I wish you well in finishing the complete series.
