The Kobayashi Maru is a training exercise in the _Star Trek (1963) franchise designed to test the character of Starfleet Academy cadets by placing them in a no-win scenario. It was first depicted and mentioned in _Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)_ Tam, na nevedomykh dorozhkakh... (1983) as well as depicted in _Star Trek (2009)_ Star Trek (2009). Famously, the only person to ever successfully pass it was James T Kirk, who overcame the test by reprogramming the simulation and changing the conditions in order to win. The name has become eponymous with a no-win scenario.
