The following comments refer to both parts of this special.
This double episode special sees Clarkson, Hammond and May back in Africa; this time they are in Uganda and there task is to discover the true source of the River Nile while driving three estate cars costing no more than £1500 each. Clarkson turns up in a BMW; May in a Mercedes, with ridiculously low profile tyres and Hammond arrives in a Subaru. The trip will see them navigating through a horrendous traffic jam in Kampala, visiting the town of Jezza, driving on some particularly poor roads and even attempting to cross a crocodile infested river on a rope ferry they built themselves. If that wasn't enough for them to deal with they inevitably had to deal with each others' pranks and stupidity.
The specials are often the highlights of any series of Top Gear and this is no exception; their trip provides lots of laugh out loud moments as well as some spectacular scenery in Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. Their choice of cars inevitably led to some problems on some of the terrible roads they travelled on although we also saw them cruising along some roads that were of a much higher quality this was not an attempt to show Africa as a continent with no decent infrastructure. While some of what they say is obviously scripted it is still funny and the three have a good chemistry even when they are bickering and winding each other up. Highlights of the special included their surprisingly successful attempt at making a ferry and the results of driving along a particularly bad road in the Serengeti. There were a few low points too; I could have done with out some of the crude innuendo in the town of Jezza. Overall though I think fans of the series should really like this but even people who aren't keen on the regular episodes should find something to enjoy here so long as they aren't put off by the 'love 'em or loathe 'em hosts!
