Great Salutation For An Epic Primetime Soap

Warning: Spoilers
In a lot of ways this episode makes it into a full circle. Regardless of how many loose ends this finale wraps up, it opens up more to continue the series. It even spins yet another salute to JR by displaying his portrait near the end of the show done in the same style as the portrait of Jock Ewing was done many years earlier after Jim Davis died.

As for who shot JR, the writers actually used Larry Hagman's real life battle with Cancer in explaining the shooting. It is interesting as for quite a while I was starting to think that Emma was developing into another Charlene Tilton Lucy type character. Not this time as at the end it appears she is going to be an evil female who is going to match up just fine with the evil trained John Ross. The question of what is in the suitcase of her dads leave open a lot of possible things for next season.

Cliff in the meantime is trying his best to keep the family feud going by making Elena his pawn to get back at his daughter Pamela and the Ewings for an elaborate frame engineered by JR that lands him in jail. It seems he has proof JR swindled Elena's dad. Meanwhile a rift has developed between her and Christopher.

There are a few things during this show that do not make sense. Still, the results of Ryland's daughter putting him away and Bobby trying too end the feud by destroying Cliff slowly and methodically are very satisfactory. It looks for a long time like everything is going to be peaceful and we are going to have a happy ending. Ah, but this is Dallas and if this is the finale for the show for good, this one is a fitting ending to be sure.
