....just a drop of rain.

A Deadly Storm is a fine epsiode, whilst I'd agree it's perhaps not the standard of the previous, which is a classic, it's still very good.

A great mix of humour, drama and mystery. The crime itself seems almost impossible, and nobody seems to possibly have a strong enough motive for the crime, it's such an interesting conclusion.

A top notch cast, Stephen Boxer is great, Ben Batt and Gemma Chan are perhaps a little underused, however it really is a wonderful episode for Richard and Camille, their scenes together are touching and very, very well acted.

I loved Richard's humour throughout, passing the storm off as a bit of rain.

Enjoyable, 8/10.

A Deadly Storm Timeline?
djkostanek28 July 2019
The episode references Hurricane Irma, which took place in that exact area August 2017. Storms are named at the beginning of each season of that year. But this episode aired 2013!!

Storm in a Teacup?

Warning: Spoilers
A student meteorologist's body is found in circumstances, that suggest he died as a consequence of a hurricane. Inspector Poole however is not entirely satisfied that is really the case, though he cannot determine exactly why.

Inspector Richard Poole simply can't take the impending storm seriously, "If everyone in England stayed inside with every bit of wind we wouldn't have had an Empire". And he typically considered a British wind as more serious, enough to be called the "The Great Wind of 87" to illustrate his point he said "the roof of my dad's shed was blown right off".

Inspector Poole gets the bit between his teeth in his determination to work on the case, such that he drags Camille against her protestations and better judgement literally into the eye of the storm.

Fidel is apprehensive about his chances of success in the Sergeants Exam, Camille wants Richard to prove that he's not like his dad and give Fidel encouragement.

Warning: Spoilers
After being very impressed by "A Dash of Sunshine", I expected the same quality episode to continue the season. "A Deadly Storm" is not a bad episode- it's decent-, but it could have been way better.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are great. The episode looks and sounds wonderful. The acting's fine too. Stephen Boxer fares best of the guest stars. Ben Miller and Sara Martins steal the show. Their chemistry with one another is magnificent.

. Once the plot gets going, "A Deadly Storm" is a very fun watch. There are some clever twists, the humor is quirky enough too. Really liked that we start to get more and more backstory on Richard.

But...

.As said before, the story does not get going until fifteen to twenty minutes in. Before the storm happens, the case is quite run of the mill- to say the least.

. There could have been much more done with the characters. The identity of the killer (the professor) was too good of a suspect early on, because the other suspects were not given enough meat for me to remember them.

Overall, a fine episode, once it gets going.

6,5/10 HK
