Annoyed at Camille.
sbcollotzi2 February 2021
On my second go-round watching this British dramady. While this is yet again another great episode, I'm more than a little annoyed at Camille. She is giving DI Poole so much grief regarding his ill feelings toward Doug Anderson, a past colleague, but seems to forget that not only does DI Poole always get his man (or woman), and that in the previous episode she was very ready to arrest anyone when the victim was a friend of hers. Give him some space. DI Poole always comes through.

My name is Richard

Another great episode and nice to see Ralph Little as a quest star. He probably never expected that he would someday be a leading star on the show on years to come. Ben Miller is brilliant as always but I felt so bad for his character for having to put up with so much from his nasty old colleague Doug but Richard stayed cool and classy and you could see him thinking to himself, just wait you will get what is coming to you and I finally get my revenge. I did not really like the scene with the poisoned cat but Dwayne buying a baby kitten to cheer up his friend Estelle was heartwarming and a lovely thing of him to do.

A very good episode!

Warning: Spoilers
There is not secret that the second season of "Death in Paradise" has not been outstanding so far- "Death on the Plantation" is the best of bunch. "A Dash of Sunshine" is easily the second best entry of the second though.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are great. The episode looks and sounds wonderful. The acting's mostly very good too. James Murray and Ralf Little are solid in their roles. The standout was definitely Neil Pearson- he gives a very captivating performance.

. The story of "A Dash of Sunshine" is complex, full of twists and turns. The humor's quirky and most of the jokes land. The solution to this mystery (it turns out Richard's partner did it after all) is the most satisfying of this season.

But...

. Even though I liked Richard Poole's backstory with Doug Anderson, the script does give it way too much attention and the murder mystery is sometimes not in the centre as I would have preferred to.

Overall, a very good episode.

Best episode of Series 2.

A Dash of Sunshine is for me, the best episode of the excellent second series. It really does have so much going for it, first off, the case itself is a classic, Richard needs to be at his best to crack such a case, where everyone seems to have unbreakable alibis. I loved the character of Doug, it was great to see a face from Richard's past.

Lots of fun throughout, Dwayne has some super funny moments, Estelle was a fun character, and managed to put him in his place.

Interesting to see Ralf Little, here as Will Teague, in a few years time he'd return as Neville. Who'd have imagined this at the time.

An out and out classic, 10/10.

"Be a Happy Richard"

Warning: Spoilers
A wheel chair bound woman is found dead in a holiday villa, she shares with her sister and husband. Who turns out to be a former police colleague, of Inspector Richard Poole from London.

Inspector Poole hadn't seen his old colleague since he'd worked with him, meeting him again unfortunately stirs up unresolved animosities.

Inspector Poole has his suspicions as to who is guilty, but is he simply making assumptions based on a previously held prejudice?

The team have other matters to consider that seriously colour their deliberations, there is a family inheritance to consider but is that simply a red herring?

Then something in the case reminds Inspector Poole of a much earlier murder enquiry in England, but how relevant can that possibly be?

The successful resolution of the case while obviously gratifying, still leaves Inspector Poole unsatisfied and Ill at ease.

Despite Camille's best endeavours Richard simply refuses to be anything other than an atypical grumpy Brit.

If Poole acted like a real British copper

He should have started out by putting the boot in, then declaring that the noticably intoxicated suspect had run into the table. It would have gotten the scumbag's attention and shortened the investigation.

I also agree with the other reviewer who criticized Camille's attitude in light of her rapid conclusions in other cases; if she's just trying to get back at Richard by such behavior, she is a very poor team member.

Also, the "Strangers on a Train" ripoff has been done way too many times.
