The Evils of War
Hitchcoc22 February 2023
The central focus here is Sierra Leone and a civil war. It's a part of Africa where the factions force little boys into battle, teaching them to use machine guns and having them kill at their commands. A nice young man has been murdered and it uncovers an underbelly of horrors. The suspect in the crime is a dear friend who is in the country illegally. But it goes much deeper than that when it is revealed there may be people from both sides in the U. S. Booth is interesting. One the one hand he has been through war where these sorts of things occur; on the other, he can be incredibly insensitive to the horrors of others. Anyway, this is handled very well. A really good episode.

Another Good Episode of Bones
briezey11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think this is another example of a Bones episode handling a tough subject in a good way. This episode deals with the idea of child soldiers and immigration. Of course, some things that happened seemed a bit unlikely and relied on a bit of Hollywood magic - like of course the main picture of the exhibit was of Symchay and that the janitor of their building was a man who committed several war crimes. But, nonetheless, I enjoyed this episode.

I think Bones did a really good job dealing with this topic. When she was talking to Arastoo, she said "no one has it easy in war" and I think that was just such a powerful thing to say to him in that moment. Then, we get the scene of Bones, Booth and Sweets at 3:00am looking at pictures and we get to here about some of the tragedies that Bones has dealt with. I really liked this because it shows that even though she was never in a war, dealing with the aftermath of war can be very difficult.

Going off of that, I hope Sweets never leaves Bones and Booth's house. I absolutely love the scenes of Sweets interacting with Bones and Booth. I think the relationship that the three of them have is just so pure and lovely. Just thinking back to how much they didn't want to be with Sweets in therapy in season 3 to now is just so crazy and I love it so much.

Also, Cam and Arastoo finally admitted to their relationship! They make a really cute couple and I think it is nice that the lab finally knows about them. I also love how supportive Hodgins was.

Best part: "I'm the guy with Doctor in front of his name" -- don't get me wrong, I didn't like seeing Hodgins and Arastoo fight and I think that there was just a lot of miscommunication going on, but this comment definitely got me.

Worst part: Alex from State Department saying "I'm not a small man" - this comment really wasn't necessary, the last time we saw this character in the episode "The girl in Suite 2103" there were A LOT of comments about his height and it was absolutely not necessary and again in this episode we deal with those types of comments. I think Alex is a cool character and I am glad we brought him back but I think his character could be created without jokes having to revolve around his height.
