The debris from the exploded satellite falls around the truck stop plaza at about a 55-60 degree angle, but the last image from the satellite appears to have been taken almost directly overhead (85-90 degrees). If the image was taken overhead just before the explosion, the satellite debris would indeed have fallen at an acute angle as it slowed and entered the atmosphere, but it would have landed many miles away, not on the same spot it was imaging directly below.
Around min 100, Alton wasn't wearing his bulletproof vest; while he was wearing in the previous scene.
When they are driving at the roadblock towards the end of the film, Lucas' seat belt switches between being buckled and unbuckled between scenes.
Near the end of the movie, after Roy breaks through the road blockade, the air bags are engaged. However, seconds later the vehicle is able to drive away without any sign of them. Air bags are designed to instantly inflate to cushion the people in the car against impact, but then to deflate straight away. Although there are many shots in which you cannot see the air bags, when the car flips over, it can be seen in its deflated state.
Towards the end, when the aliens are walking towards the structure, for a split second over Sarah's (Kirsten Dunst) right shoulder, you can see an actor with lights over his/her eyes (the lighting apparatus)
The characters are told to go to the geographic coordinates of 29.4.31N 82.41.48W, which is about 25 miles north of Tampa, FL, and 4 miles from the Gulf. However, the movie at least twice shows them using a map aimed for the Florida panhandle near Apalachicola. Later "explosions" of energy are shown radiating from that area. They have missed by roughly 150 miles.
On the first night, they're supposedly in hiding but they take a motel room adjacent to the motel office, and instead of waiting until dark, they leave at dusk in a car parked within easy view of the desk clerk when they could have parked right outside the door of their motel room.
At the beginning of the movie when their pictures and descriptions are on TV, they choose that time to leave. It would have made more sense, if on the run, you wait a few hours after the local news has ended before running.
When Sevier is on the phone to Roy providing him with co-ordinates for their rendezvous at the point just after Alton unlocks the car Sevier calls Roy "Ray."
