Nice, if you have time.
vikasvidhushscrap28 January 2023
Very good screenplay, the characters were defined, and the dialogues could be improved.

A lot of cussing and bad words, strictly A-rated, and has a lot of adult content

The actors did their job perfectly, and overall acting was close to reality.

Chittapan acting vera level coupled with Ahaana's beauty and Boys, Girls Hostel life were drawn distinctive.

Had love, fun, hatred, wit, and touching lines with references at the climax were icing on the cake, although not emotional.

Characters were developed so damn great, I could relate with BBT Sheldon being a socially awkward person at the beginning and nice, polite gentleman at the end.

Senthil dialogues were on point, and deep when it comes to advice, and Pandian did a good job with his presence and jokes made me choke my tea.

Definitely, a series to put your time on, wouldn't disappoint you.

Period.

A Missed Opportunity
Engga Hostel is a adult comedy genre web series which launches TVF's tamil debut. The series stars a complete set of new actors.

Positives:

This series is strictly for those who like American Sitcoms. For regular cinema go-ers this series will not work.

The actors performance is delightful and they are very convincing as well as a promising debuts from the new comers

A very good production value from Prime Video

This is a technically strong series

Sendhil character's writing and acting is the biggest positive for this series

Negatives:

Repetative scenes Chittapu character is extremely annoying.

Poor direction Humor could have worked well The creators are stuck in a complex whether to make it a pure adult comedy or not which makes most scenes flat

Verdict:

A watchable fun series which could have been better. Hostel Daze is btr but this ain't bad.

Rating: 3/5.

Not a prime content, an average watch.
Vetrrich_Chelvan29 January 2023
Engga Hostel (Our(exclusive) Hostel) , labelled to be a remake of some Hindi web series, narrates the story of several characters trying to survive their college days at hostel.

See if this series came out in 2018 or something, it would have been revolutionary but at this time, where hundreds of short films and web series exist on the same concept all over internet for free, we definitely get to how 'Engga hostel' differs from its counterparts since we pay to watch this entertainment.

And the answer is nothing. Worse - this series and its screenplay is obviously confused. It is entertaining at times, we can give them that but the struggle to establish connection between the characters and the audience within 5 episodes is so visible and it felt like they were pulling efforts to make this possible.

It often felt like watching Jump Cuts as we went from one episodes to another. There were a lot of questions on why certain characters do what they do that went unanswered and a lot of feelings were unexplored.

May be this is why Amazon is doing nothing to promote this series. Final sentence is that YouTubers do better than this, why can't you?

TVF never fails
lokeshbaakiyaraj27 January 2023
Binged Watched all five episodes.

Series is full of drama and emotions.brought back so much memories from college and hostel life

The characters played their roles so beautifully and their progress through episode is so engaging.simply loved the half mallu half tamil senthil.his emotion is so relatable.

The dialogues are aptly written and performed, even the supporting characters stand out.

The 2 female leads were perfect choice for their role.

Episode 2 was a riot especially the Girls Porn 🤣

You'll enjoy every second of this show.another must watch show from the viral fever.

TVF never disappoints 👍🎉

Utter waste of time
Vipinnnnnn28 January 2023
Watched three and a half episodes and couldn't continue . There is nothing engaging in this series. It's too boring . Some actors tried to be funny and miserably failed . The same TVF made series like Kota and aspirants which were gem and excellent to watch. We were able to connect to those series. Aspirants showed us the struggles of civil service aspirants with a tinge of how preparation happens, some romance and it was fun and realistic to watch . Engga hostel is a big disaster and a waste of time . Some scenes in engga hostel are even disgusting to even watch it . The series doesn't have a plot, no theme, no screen play and actors are pure mediocre. Watch it at your risk and you will literally get head ache in the end .

Wanted to give zero but one is the minimum here .

Skip First 2 Episodes
jegadhishmohan31 January 2023
I almost gave up on this show and called it quits but one my friends insisted me to watch the 3rd episode so I gave the show a second chance 2 days later and it was like a completely different show.

The characters started developing very well from the 3rd episode and reached a well written finale, don't know why they couldn't follow the same flow in the first two episodes.

First two episodes were so badly written with an excellent cast at hand, the girls ragging and proposing to another girl was a complete snooze fest, ragging was too stretched out & felt tiring to a point that I had to fast forward. On comparison the second episode was better but not on par with the last 3 episodes.

If you want to watch this series, skip the first two episodes, you wouldn't be missing much.

A series which takes down our memory lane to RELIVE those moments
mubashiramubeen28 January 2023
A hilarious series to watch and enjoy with the moments and happenings captured perfectly in a college hostel. It was so real with all the dialogues, emotions, fights, friendships. If one has not got the pleasure to live in a hostel, this series would make anyone feel and miss it for sure!!

Very well directed in perfection, Director Sathish!

Kudos to Chitappa, Raja thilagam, and Ajay for being so natural in the series!! And the dialogue delivery was "sooo natural" that it doesn't seem anyone has just merely "acted" their characters in the series.

Applause!!! Can't wait for more!!

Expecting soon Director Sathish!!

Girls Hostel rocks
srinidhiyegna28 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The portrayal of Girls hostel is really nice and is very interesting, being a hostel student i could totally relate to it. Every episode relates with what happens in hostel life, fight, relationship, and misunderstandings. The dialog about tamil girls being third option is rofl 😆. Girls watching porn and the conversations around porn is majaa.boys hostel was fun but girls hostel stole the show.it had all the flavors of college life. Superb acting and choice of leads. Raja and Ahana were simply superb. Their friendship and love triangle was cute.season 2 lead is there, hope i see more of the girls hostel.

Made me smile,laugh and cry
karthikalagars3 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am at phase of my life where I terribly miss my hostel and college days where I used to have lots of fun and smile, laugh a lot.

Nowadays I am just going with the flow of time, working, socialising but not really having the fun and memories I used to have before but this series just made me realise how lucky I had been in life.

Most of the scenes resonated with me since it has either happened to me or my friends, the fake id scene was ultimate, had so much friend those days pretending to be a girl and cheating my friend.

Even the exam scenes were so on point, group studies, trying to get the help from the toppers to teach us and finally trying in vain to buy a question paper from a senior who claims it's legit.

Ajay Pandi Senthil Chithappa Changu Raja Ahana and the supporting characters were just brilliant, music was so good with superb visuals.

Each and every episode has something to remind us of our hostel days, thank you team for making me and so many like me to relive their memories once again.

Awesome nostalgia
prashanthkesavan28 January 2023
Didn't even hear about this series till i randomly saw it on my firetv.

College and hostel were some my of best memories.

Really loved Malayalam movie Hridayam and now completely fell in love with Engg Hostel, top notch screenplay, top notch characters, top notch direction, music.

All characters and their acting is so good,Chang chellam even though his presence was less i thorough enjoyed his Tamil slang especially the bad words 😅

I was always curious wat happens in girls hostel but my god i didn't expect how well informed they are about everything happening in college and boys hostel.

Thinking back I could laugh at my self, brought back all my hostel memories.

This show should reach a lot of people.

Good show all around.

Totally relatable
ameersalman199430 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I come from southern Tamilnadu near to Kerala border,we speak Tamil with a mix of Malayalam and I struggled big time in hostel since none of them understood what I spoke, I was made fun a lot especially in freshers day. Looking at Senthil I remembered so much of my hostel and college life. Out of all the characters in hostel I loved him the most, his transformation was so well written, going out of the way to help people especially in studies and feeling used was so heartbreaking to watch.hopefully he gets back with the gang next season, the end episode has promised so much for next season that I can't wait for it.

Great show by the hostel team.

Must watch for Hostel students
sushilshinde-6252428 January 2023
Chithappu you are a legend in that madras accent, cursings and attitude. Any every hostel got a guy like Yuvaraj over reacting. Senthil and Pandi the laugh riots, missed them big time in episode 5. Chang and his bad words were class

Gaajithala scene was just brilliant. Eagerly waiting for more episodes, hope there are more episodes in this season.

Light hearted series which tries to capture all the beautiful memories in hostel. Well written, dialogs could have been better. Well executed and very relatable. You can't just stop laughing.

Felt a bit lag here and there but overall a binge worthy series full of fun and emotions of hostel students.

Vera level series
bharathabinan13 February 2023
Simply vera level series this one, each and every incident was fun max and the characters just rocked the roles.

That Chithappa was ultimate fun, reminded so much of my super seniors who ragged us a lot but ended up like our buddies in hostel, the Malayalee Tamil guy and the spy guy are definitely part of every engineering hostel in tamilnadu.

Girls hostel, ayyo ayyo ena ma panrinkanga especially that Revathi character super ma,Ahaana was beauty and Raja story was simply nice, me also mech and we just had one girl. Rakhi incident similar happened in my college too.

I have never been genuinely excited for any series to continue to season 2 but I simply can't wait for the second season to come.

A Good 1st Season
vysreemanoj30 January 2023
Took me a lot of time to finish Episode 1,had to pause start and again pause since I could not connect initially. Had the same problem in Episode 2 but the Girls Hostel saved it.

The main problem I found with the first 2 episodes were that they concentrated more on ragging and porn than the actual characters. There is so much potential in each and every character, that's good writing on the characters but their development was shunted by ragging and porn.

But Episodes 3 4 5 were brilliant, it concentrated more on the characters rather than following the troupes of love, birthday and exams, the screenplay brilliantly used the above troupes to develop the characters.

I would go with 8/10.

5 Episodes not enough
mokeshveeraraj28 January 2023
5 episodes doesn't do justice to all the characters,so much potential with each and every character. Cast has delivered a great performance. I am from Singapore and my non Tamil speaking friends watched it along with me with subs,we had so much fun, ha ha ha.

Engga hostel is so connectable to me now,i had a smile on my face throughout the five episodes. Birthday bums was so much fun but not encouraging ragging and birthday bums is commendable. What a perfect debut for the show,i really wish more episodes were there.casting was brilliant, music was so good in the romantic portions. No words to describe this brilliant show.for hostel students like me it's a superb connect, for others you can relive your college days Much love from Singapore

Dharshan's Rating 8.5/10
dharshanshankar3 February 2023
Episode 1 (6.5/10) Started off well and ended well but the ragging scenes were too much.

Episode 2 (7.5/10) Too much focus on Ajay's identity, others identity was just brushed upon but not showing porn and having a discussion around it is really commendable especially the Girls discussion.

Episode 3 (10/10) Best episode of the series, started off & progressed as very cliched romance but the twist was brilliant with a superb ending 👏.

Episode 4 (9/10) Highly entertaining episode with characters developing even more, this episode had fun, emotions and very relatable situations 👌.

Episode 5 (9.5/10) A superb finale with well played out conflicts that sets the tone for Season 2 👍.

Special Mention : The character arc of Chang was subtle and brilliantly done, so much characters vying to get our attention, credits to the Writers and Director for this 🙌.

Cheers to Hostel life
yuvrajm-4972430 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Been an hostel student since my high school then in college I totally fell in love with this series.

Though some scenes were filmy I could instantly connect with a lot of scenes like for example i was also made to propose to a senior girl as part of the ragging ritual. Eventually that senior girl and i became close friends and we still keep in touch. I called her up to catch up with this series but she too had seen the show and wanted to talk to me about the same.

Ajay was so in sync with me, introvert studied in boys school, that actor played his part really well. Been a fan of parithabangal for a long time, happy to see Dravid getting a full fledged role.

Anyone watching the series would definitely connect with some character or incident.

Waiting for boys hostel raid next season.

What a fun ride...
subramaniamu4 February 2023
Never heard about this series until I saw a few funny memes on Instagram and decided to give it a shot. It was completely worth it.

So much rofl moments in every episode, I don't get it why amazon is not promoting this show at all, it was such a good series that has so much relatable incidents.

The story revolves mostly around Ajay and he has completely done justice for it, have seen Ajay and Ahana in a YouTube short film, their chemistry is really superb but I preferred the plot of Raja and Ajay more.

The emotions of Senthil was so well acted out, am really watching out how he's going to move forward in the coming seasons.

Pandi and Chithappu were kickass entertainers, with just over 150 mins runtime, Engga Hostel is a superb stress buster.

Can't wait for Season 2
logivignesh214 February 2023
ENGGA HOSTEL comes as a breathe of fresh air in the Tamil OTT space which is crowded with dark content of mostly crime.

I have consumed a lot of YouTube content based on college and school but the makers of the series seem to have made a conscious decision to not replicate them.

Each character is fleshed out in much detail but since there were so many characters the screen time could have been more, the most subtle but beautiful changes were of Chang, each episode he has very less screen space but manages to grow as a character throughout, his loyalty towards Chithappu and also mocking him to change we're subtle and elegant.

Writing and Direction were just brilliant along with the Edit and Music.

First 2 episodes felt flat but the other episodes compensated for it big time.

Season 2 promises a lot.

Characters have lived their roles!
yuvrajmano8 February 2023
Every artists have performed so well in this series, everyone has something unique to offer even the supporting cast.

Yuvaraj is damn irritating and gets on your nerves, Chithappu with his "Otha" slang is that one guy in every gang, Senthil is the sweetest friend who we take for granted, Ajay is that introvert who always relies on his friends for everything, Paandi is super cool who behaves like he knows all but a friend for life.

Each of these characters brings in so much perspective and conflicts that the screen time is not enough but claps to the Director for fleshing out so many characters in such a small run time.

Even the Girls hold their own in this series, in fact their memes are going viral showing how they can also have fun.

Technically too the show is well made, the cinematography, edit, music, sounding have all been worked to sync with the Hostel backdrop perfectly.

Now the wait is on for Season 2.

So much cuss words that I lost count 🤣
aathirasugumar28 January 2023
So much cuss words in the first episode that i lost count.

I am glad I watched it alone, I was laughing so much that I started choking at certain scenes, it would have been embarrassing for me to explain that I was choking cause of the cuss words that were thrown at random and my gosh that Chithappu was jus rhyming bad words throughout the show.

Chang chellam was truly charming, he looks like a BTS artist, please use him more in the upcoming seasons 😍

I am so happy that they explored the Girls Hostel, I have never been in a hostel & watching it makes me realise the fun I missed.

Ahaana and Raja's conversation about guys attraction to milfs was epic.

Season 2 come fast, can't wait.

Girls Hostel is too good
akshayaskishan4 February 2023
I have seen countless films on colleges and every time I see girls just used just for beautifying the scenes or playing second fiddle to the heroes. But this series just nailed it for the Girls, brilliant portrayal of Girls hostel.

There is a dialogue about porn in the series where the girls vent out how everything is catered to the guys taste and how girls also need to have fun.

Engga Hostel walks the talk by superbly showing the girls having so much fun from discussing openly about porn, the dialog about periods between roommates getting synced is damn true and conveying how girls are very well informed about what happens everywhere especially boys hostel is the icing on the cake.

Ahaana & Raja starting out on pretty bad terms to becoming besties at the end is very well written and executed.

Overall all a very well conceived series with its heart in the right place.

Web Series to watch if you miss your hostel life!
gh_cool28 January 2023
Director Sathish has brought the life of my hostel in front of my eyes in this awesome web series. I saw myself in Ajay's character in the series(Engga Hostel). And i also had room mate from Kerala(Muneer) and another one from South Tamilnadu (Zia) like Ajay has Senthil and Pandian in the series. The looties and mocking of friends, the chatters, the ragging and the fun everything was good to watch.

After a long time, a feel good series by a very good director in Sathish chandrasekharan. His screenplay was colourful and quite natural.

The actors Samyuktha, Saranya and Dravid Selvam did their part very well too. Samyuktha was charming beauty and Saranya is best South Indian Tamil ponnu. And also the Chittappu character made me remember a friend of mine. His name was Ashiq. He was like that only during my college days.

Kudos to the entire crew for making this series a grand success. Please do watch and enjoy the moment! Wishing for more success for the team. Looking forward to second season of the web series "Engga Hostel". Vaa thalaivaa vaaa!!

They literally stole my story
akstatachikkargupta28 January 2023
Ahaana is 200% a replica of my life. All my life my name is misspelled by everyone,I have tried correcting each and everyone a zillion times but no use, they go back to butchering my name.

I have watched the original hostel daze in Hindi and didn't have high hopes for the show since remakes always end in spoiling the original but I was surprised to see how they developed the lead girls hostel characters. In the Hindi version they would have just used the girls as a subplot but happy to see the girls getting equal substance. Taking nothing away from Chithappu portraying jhantoo but the latter is a legend.

Senthil and Pandi are very likeable,I loved Raja to bits, her love triangle with Ajay is good but her equation with Pandi is more interesting.

Looking forward to the final season of Hostel Daze & second season of Engga Hostel.

You will either LOVE or hate it
gayathrikalai28 January 2023
Me and my roommate binged watched this entire series. Running for five episodes with 30 minutes each, series felt like a movie watch.

But my roommate didn't connect with the characters at all,I too felt a lag in the first two episodes but the last three episodes were just so engrossing, reminded me so much of my hostel and college.

Guess this show would be on either extremes, you connect with it or have a hatred towards it like my roommate.

Coming to the performances, the girls were just brilliant,Ahana reminded me of my days in Delhi where I struggled to fit in and felt like a outsider.

Senthil was just relatable, looking forward to him and Pandi's comeback in the next season.
