Sam was too stupid in this one, Dean a little slow as well.
thecaptain-652-3942986 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Well acted, and generally well written. Only two problems; first, I figured out what was going on in the first 5 minutes. Second, one thing stretched my suspension of disbelief a bit.

I understand that it's an established character trait for Sam to sometimes be a little naive, but really? You already suspect the guy, or at least Dean does, for good reason, and you just doofistically tells him that he's found the bad guys' van in the back?

And when Dean's trying to convince the Scoobies that the vampire they killed wasn't the one who killed wassername's family, why did he not throw in that he had proof that he'd been human a month before? A little more impressive maybe than "he wouldn't lie"?

At first I thought Victor's attempt to get them to go along after they knew he'd killed their families was too ridiculous, then I remembered that he was crazy, so that gets a pass.

Good idea, Moderate Execution
chelsea-mills27 April 2013
I liked the idea of the surrogate father lying to his kids about the vampires, but perhaps this could have been modified slightly so that there were no kids? Sometimes I feel like the show needs to "grow up" a bit, and although in this episode I may mean it literally, it also applies in a non-literal sense (irrelevant here however)

I do not like Chrissy. I hope she's gone. She's written like a "hard ass" but she comes off like she's trying to hard, and I don't think that's on purpose. It's partly the fault of her actor (who is not my personal favourite) and the fact that she's supposed to be about 17 but she looks 12.

Why is everyone hating?
csharrett-7696928 February 2021
Why is everyone hating on this episode?! It wasn't the greatest thing ever but I thought it was pretty cool.... don't you guys get tired of the same story every episode? I like the break up episodes EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE.

Kids Suck
danajs243 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This season has had the most ups and downs that I've seen in Supernatural. I feel like they've tried to develop other characters outside of Sam and Dean numerous times, and they fall flat each time. This is no exception. Krissy was annoying, I hated it when she acted like she knew more than Sam or Dean. The other two kids were brainwashed and were the same way, I wanted the Winchesters to put them in their place so many times. The "twist" was quite predictable, and luckily the bad hunter was killed instead of let go, like I thought was gonna happen, as that dude would have done the exact same thing again. Again, hopefully this is the last of the episodes that are outside of the story line.

It was okay
wolfordcheyenne22 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of this episode was a good one, but the execution was poor. I liked how they brought Krissy back, but her little friends were annoying. The most annoying was Aidan and his overly cocky attitude. Also some of the decisions the characters made were stupid and illogical.

Run of the mill episode!
mm-3929 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Freaks and Geeks is a run of the mill episode! There is nothing special here! Freaks and Geeks has a bunch of kids going on hunts and the Winchester find out that their adult mentor is manipulating the kids. The usual hunting episode, with a mystery to find out of what is happening. The set up theme has been done over and over. Freaks and Geeks is entertaining, but not exciting. I fell asleep during the show, but was sick. Maybe a second viewing would give the episode would give a fairer assessment. Watchable, but forgettable. Freaks and Geeks gives nothing to the running series sub plots. The episodes add no new twist on character developments either. I give Freaks and Geeks a six out of ten.

Good concept, i just didn't care much
shwetafabm26 June 2020
I like episodes focused on other characters, but three episodes pretty close to each other have been very mediocre. I didn't care about the other two kids at all. While the concept, as crazy and implausible as it was, was good i have really had it with the we don't kill humans even when they are worse than monsters attitude.

Gives Fallen Idols a run for its money on being the worst episode of the series
CubsandCulture7 September 2020
I have no idea how or why the writers thought it was a good idea to bring back Krissy. The character-especially the actress-do not work well with Dean. The prior Krissy episode-Adventures in Babysitting-was at best lackluster and the back end of it was some of the worst stuff in season 7. So this episode already has a lot working against it. There's just no life or chemistry to the Dean, Krissy interactions. The entire thing falls on its face because of that.

Even worse the script is far too flippant and nonchalant about the premise of the story. The normal kids who are being trained as hunters does not really work and there's too little material to really sell the concept. The big reveal was guessable within 10 minutes of the episode and frankly everything just feels so utterly forced. This has a childish tone-as in it seems more overtly aimed at children-that is at odds with the show.

Episodes that have strong moralistic themes-After School Special comes to mind-require a lightness comedic tone to balance the cheese and this episode forgets that.

It is only a tender mercy that Krissy is never heard from again. I hope a vamp got her.

Predictable in every way
hannahisaacs-6177512 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what it is with season 8 and having some of the worst episodes in the entire series but this episode is just plain awful. Krissy's acting is terrible and the fact that she thinks she's a better hunter than Sam and Dean?? Also, the fact that she looks 12 when she's supposed to be like 17?? There have been way too many vampire storylines in this show. The hunter turning on them was predictable in every way. Everything was not adding up. These kids sucked at what they were doing. If I wanted to watch a movie about vampires and kids with cheap lines, I'd turn on the Twilight movies. This episode was just plain awful.

What was that Crap ?!?
LetsplaywithNeh28 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
What a incredible bad Episode.(#8.18) Who wants to see some Kids, with over dramatic monologues and moments? If i want to, i could watch Twilight or something like that...

But i want to see Samy,Dean and Castiel beating the s**t out of some really ugly monsters and creatures.

Packed with a Main Theme like angels,Lucifer,leviathans...

THAT is what made Supernatural to my favorite TV Show. And of course the Chevrolet Impala ^^

But not this little Girl with the Angry Killer Expression. By the way if she would try to fire that Magnum Revolver on the End. She would fly through the whole Set i think.

I usually give 10 rating to bookmark having seen an episode, but ...
sabs-miller29 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I usually only give a rating of 10 for tv episodes, unless they're really bad in which case the lowest I go is 5, but this episode, woooooow, not exactly the idea, which honestly is pretty basic, but the acting of the kids is just awful, especially Krissy and that other girl of the same age. It was just so cringe. The actress of Krissy can't act, I wanna hit something everytime I see her say a sentence in the same damn expression. I can see she's going for a lower voice to sound more serious or whatever, but just... please stop. I hope it's the last time I see her on the show.

...............Apparently the review needs at least 600 characters to pass so I'm just adding whatever now.

The bad acting in Season 8 continues!
hnt_dnl16 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm having an extremely difficult time slogging through Season 8. How were the first 7 seasons so good, while this season is godawful? Out of the first 7 seasons, Season 3 was easily the weakest and compared to Season 8, it's starting to feel like a masterpiece! The actress playing this returning Krissy character might be in the bottom 5 worst acted guest characters of the show. She literally SMILES all the time whether she's happy, angry, or sad. And her line delivery is as flat as a pancake. And the 2 actors playing her fellow teen foster sibling vampire hunters weren't much better. Remember the little girl who played Lilith? The boy who played Ben? The kid who played the immaculate demon child? These were literal children and their acting was leaps and bounds better than these "teenagers" played by 20-somethings. And what's worse is the adult guest acting is bad this season, too. The guy who played the trio's foster father was just as bad as they were and this guy looked to be in his 40s! But a huge red flag to me is that the Dean-Krissy interactions feel creepy to me. I felt uncomfortable watching them in her earlier episode and this one, too. I couldn't wait for them to end because the actress' weird smiling thing made it feel like she was coming onto the much older Dean. To add insult to injury, the episode's plot was terrible. Why on Earth would the guy join forces with a vampire as a way of "inspiring" the teens to become better hunters? Why would he opt to kill himself when he seemed completely remorseless about what he was doing? Am I supposed to believe that awful cringe speech delivered by the Krissy actress shamed him into committing suicide? He literally had the advantage with a concealed weapon and could have just started shooting all the people in the room and gotten away. What's really sad is that these guest actors are so bad they are dragging the usually reliable Ackles and Padalecki down with them. I'm hoping that much like Season 3, this season is just a blip and the show will get better in Seasons 9 and beyond because at this point, I'm beginning to wonder how this show actually made it 15 seasons.

Pathetic
KirbyKaz27 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Just pathetic. I have grown to love the show after the past several weeks of marathoning* this piece of art. I know that shows often become formulaic and predictable after several seasons, but this episode made me almost tear up in its utter laziness. The plot-line is an embarrassment to the show and the entire Television Community.

*unrelated but this system marked marathoning as misspelled but even the OED recognizes it

Why bring Krissy back?
melly-9491917 September 2021
Did not like this episode. Dean seemed pretty useless and Sam slow. Krissy was terrible the first time around and only marginally better this time.
