After her turn as the mysterious and elusive Shasta Fay Hepworth in Paul Thomas Anderson’s woozy adaptation of “Inherent Vice,” it was clear to fans of the film that Katherine Waterston would soon graduate from the small roles she had played in various anonymous indie films in the past decade to more sizable roles in marquee films. Following this summer's "Queen Of Earth," and while we wait to see her in her first studio blockbuster role, the trailer for her newest indie effort has arrived online. Read More: Look In The Mirror: Supercut Breaks Down Martin Scorsese's Influence On 'Boogie Nights' Written by, directed by, and starring Tom O’Brien, the romantic-comedy “Manhattan Romance” follows a commercial editor and documentary filmmaker as he attempts to finish his film, a study on relationships, while navigating the relationships in his own life. On Aug. 16, one of cinema's best babysitting adventures, Uncle Buck, will celebrate its 25th anniversary.
The John Hughes comedy tells the story of the Russell family; mom and dad need someone to look after their three kids Asap. Short on options, Uncle Buck – a sloppy and crass city dweller – is recruited at the last minute. Expertly played by the late John Candy, Buck tackles giant pancakes, power drills and a game of endless questions with Macaulay Culkin, proving crazy uncles have some serious skills.
A quarter of a century later, Uncle Buck still brings the laughs and warm, fuzzy feelings.

This is quite a shock. Deadline reports that Paul Thomas Anderson has decided to cast Katherine Waterston as the female lead in his upcoming film Inherent Vice. She’s a rather low-key young actress who is getting her first integral role, and in a PTA-directed movie, no less. She’s recently finished an arc on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and recently wrapped Manhattan Romance, opposite Chris Messina.
Waterston has previously had supporting roles in Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock and Tony Gilroy’s Michael Clayton (opposite George Clooney), but her involvement in this film is surely a huge step in her career. She’ll be playing Shasta, an ex-girlfriend of the film’s main character, Doc (Joaquin Phoenix). Even though she used to be a free-spirited hippie, she finds herself turning straight for a businessman named Mickey Wolfmann. Doc is hired to protect Wolfmann from his wife, and thus the awkwardness ensues.

Exclusive: In a real coup for a young actress, Katherine Waterston has landed a lead female role in the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel Inherent Vice. I’ve heard she’ll play Shasta, the ex-girlfriend of Joaquin Phoenix’s character, Doc. She is a free-spirited hippie chick who turns straight for real estate mogul Mickey Wolfmann. Doc’s main task is, at first, to help Shasta Fay protect Wolfmann, her current love, from his wife and her lover. She joins Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Josh Brolin, Martin Short, and Jena Malone, with Sean Penn reportedly eyeing a role as well. The film shoots this summer for Warner Bros, and PTA is producing through his Ghoulardi Film Co. along with JoAnne Sellar and Daniel Lupi. The daughter of Sam Waterston, Katherine has been working consistently in New York Theatre and supporting roles such as Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock,...
