Warning: Spoilers
The biggest surprise in this episode is the different direction Bobby Ewing takes on JR's death. He has been building anger towards his wife Ann in several episodes and he uses the death of his brother to give Ann a major chewing out. Does she deserve what Bobby dishes out? In a lot of ways- yes she does.

There are some other folks who have emotions about JR's death too, including Cliff Barnes. John Ross is obviously having a tough time. It appears the Masterpiece is in the form of his orders to his best private detective trying too tie up the loose ends of his death. Some of those are going to rolling out during the rest of the season.

At the last time before his death, it appears JR was busy trying to make up for a few of his past sins. There is no way he could make up for all of them, but he has made a start. What is most interesting is that so far it appears he has given Bobby the most revealing stuff too work with but has put out scraps for the whole family.

Sue Ellen gets some touching moments in this farewell and of course at the wake they are serving up JR's favorite - Bourbon and Branch. I can see him having a bunch of those now and the cast and mourners get to do so here.

It is as expected, touching with a dark undertone through out.
