Not even bad in a slightly entertaining way
moarosenquist2 February 2024
Feed was bad but in a good way and still entertaining, this however was not.

Very poorly written and executed. The high definition video footage from the 70s which seemed to be self-stalking a family should have been a plot of it's own (and might have been a better movie).

I don't think I saw a facial expression change once except maybe the Polly girl. It was like they had scarfaced in Botox-needles before shooting.

Still don't really know why they named it "Cancelled". There was some talk about the main characters loosing sponsorship from a pan pizza company but that was literally it.

I wish I could cancel this movie and get my money back.

Underwhelming snore-fest
Snipergunnar10 September 2023
I managed to miss Joakim Lundells last movie while it aired, and after seeing Cancelled, I'm glad I did.

This abomination of a "movie" lacks in pretty much every aspect it could. The plot is uninspired and dull, which makes the ending very easy to foresee. The acting is half-assed, forced and manages to feel childish at times. We won't see these actors go anywhere big anytime soon, hopefully never. But is it even their fault? The script was doomed from the beginning.

It's really just a rehash of common horror characteristics and tropes, this movie adds nothing to a genre already clad in poor attempts at making the viewer nostalgic to better films.

The ending doesn't make sense either, I'm not going to mention any spoilers, but it feels like the writers had a case of writers block, and it shows.

Is it scary though? A poorly written horror flick can be saved by good atmosphere and well made jumpscares. Cancelled has neither. It's campy as all hell, without trying to be. The setting, an old abandoned mansion in the middle of nowhere looks like a studio. Everything looks "broken down and creepy" in a planned way, old children's toys can never cover up that a movie just isn't scary. Regarding the jumpscares, they're bad, and very easy to call out well before they happen.

I could sit here for an hour mentioning logical fallacies in the film, but that does not really serve a purpose. It's a cheap attempt and a scary film, and it fails miserably.

Are there any positives? Eh, the sound design is fine, and most of the camera work is well done. But overall, this film is lacking.

Better luck next time Joakim.

Extremely bad unfortunately. Badly written and nothing original.
alexanderliljefors1 September 2023
I really enjoyed Joakim Lundells other production: Feed from 2022. So i had very high expectations on this one. And a really good trailer.

The start was bad, then it gets abit better and then bad again.

Firstly i really "Spökjakt" and ghosthunting series. But this was a disappointing watch.

This was not in my taste.

Very cheap jumpscares and no explanation to anything.

Extremley bad scriptwriting, very bad acting and nothing origional or unique.

The story isn't unique at all. A very cofusing storytelling with very unlogic and cofusing elements.

Nothing scary in it all. Ridiculous bad. Unfortunately a very weak horror film.

Left the cinema with a feeling of no emotion really.

One of the worst horrorfilma ive ever seen.

Extremely long-winded and very illogical reasoning and conclusions. Unbelievably disappointed unfortunately. A Copy pasted horrorfilm.

But to be Sweden where we havent created alot of horror, Canceled is a honest try with some good parts.

I do not recommend it really.

Cancel your plans of ever watching this movie.
kristoffertolf12 September 2023
I went to see this horrendous flick only to hold my friends hand and went with little to zero expectations. My gut feeling was absolutely right, I wanted to leave right out the door as many times as the movie has minutes of dreadful, uneventful and boring scenes.

The story is full of loopholes, the character development is non existent meaning you have no emotional interest or care for anyone. As someone before me has mentioned the music and camera work is OK but this quality of work is really the bare minimum for a movie to even go up in the cinemas like this.

I want my 97 minutes of my life back. - 1/10.

Nothing new and simply boring
July8529 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie delivers nothing new and is full of ghost movie clichés taken from other horror movies. Like finds of old VHS tapes from a family that lived in the house before, children's drawings picturing a monster and a family member who is "forced" to shoot the entire family as the only way out.. please come up with something new or dont do it at all. In addition, you never get any feeling for the characters in the film and therefore you also don't care how things turn out for them. Add in and boring scenes and a plot that feels completely torn apart. Nicely filmed though and creepy music but the actual "Spökjakt" is 100 times better than this movie..unfortunately.

A movie worth you time
jalfredt-6877314 April 2024
Don't understand why this movie has been given such bad reviews from some viewers . I think it's absolutely worth seeing, good storyline and and a creepy feeling mixed with some proper jump scare scenes 👍🏻 Don't want to give any part of the story away but in summary the start is ok but it build up and evolves. The movies would have benefited from better actors, some performance is rather week and we all know that this can destroy the tension and the suspense as it toss you out of the "scary movie feeling" which then take a couple of scenes to get back. In the end, i at least, got wrapt up in the story and liked it.

Painful to watch
swedish_lioness28 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Flat characters and a badly written manuscript makes this Swedish movie painful to watch. The actors show no emotion whatsoever at any time and seem to be reading their lines from an autocue. The only jumpscares in this movie are when it changes from conversation to music. As usual in Swedish movies, the music is tons louder than the people speaking. So when there's just conversation on screen, you have to turn the sound up to hear what they're saying. Then, when music comes on for any reason, you have to throw yourself at the remote to lower the sound so you don't go deaf. Those are the only jumpscares in this movie - the sound...

The story itself is completely predictable. And the footage they "find" in the movie, of the family living in the mansion in the 70's? It's supposed to be homevideos made by the family. So who was filming when the grandmother went on her killing spree? A ghost?

No, this movie was a complete let down, as I figured it would be. If Joakim Lundell is behind it, you know it's gonna disappoint...

This movie was so much better then the last movie!
monicagrans2 September 2023
This movie can not even compare to the first movie Joakim Lundell did in 2022. This movie is well done, has multipel jumpscars, and it is really scary. This is a movie that i wont forget. Some of the scenes really got under my skin.

I dont understand the person who left det previous review, be cause i that the opposite, that the movie Feed was a bit predictable at times, and not det best Joakim Lundell has done, but that was also his first movie. And now in this new movie canceled, it shows how much he has grown as a producer. I can only speculate how the next movie will be, but one thing is forsure that im going to se it.

If you are A bit older and have seen a lot of horror movies befor. Then this movie isn't that scary, but thats just my opinion. I wasn't scared at all.

The younger once in the audience on the other hand, screamed like crazy.

I probably had too high expectations for the filmand thought it would be more like the program Spökjakt whit more equipment and background history of the place they investigated. But for being A swedish horror movie it was quite ok, i hade hoped for more jump scares and to be really scared. Better luck next time. But go and see the movie and decide for yourself What you think of it, mabye you Will be scared , the taste is so diffrent from person to person.

Review (spoilers)
oliver_ewaldh15 April 2024
I would wish more from the screenwriters, I know it's hard to write a feature script but the backstory felt a bit weak and they didn't really establish the characters properly, it feels like too many round characters, that would work better as flat characters. Sometimes there were things that could make sense if they connected it more to the story.

The actors were good, I think that maybe the director should have given them more reaction to the parts where the characters should be terrified or sad, for example (spoilers alert) when Katty fell backwards and died, there was no reaction, they stood there shocked when a friend died, they didn't even tell anyone, and then they cut straight to the next shot.

The cinematography was great, the lighting was beautiful, and I like how the camera moves with the actors which makes it feel more alive and real.

Pointless
HerrStoltz26 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Lacks script, acting, logic, scares and purpose. Avoid!

There is a team of influencers that have located a mysterious house in the middle of Swedish nowhere. There they find footage from the 70's but also a demonic presence that feeds on the mere knowledge of its existence. The team decide to stay there to document it all and all kinds of moronic, illogical and silly shenanigans ensue.

The only point in seeing this if you're a fan of Jocke and think that his previous effort was worth a watch. It wasn't.

My advice is that you do something else of you're time. I want the time I wasted watching this back.

Overall good
qhanna-751322 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was quite good, but with certain flaws. The characters have no background information, except maybe Polly and Alex (very little), so you don't really care when someone dies.

The whole concept of the movie is that the main character is canceled but is trying to get redemption. Not even then did we get a good explanation for him to get canceled, except a small conversation.

I really enjoyed the cinematics and it's very impressive from a swedish movie! This could actually be a mediocre hollywood movie! But that is a good review for a second film and also a swedish film.

I look forward to Joakims future films because they are actually really entertaining to watch! A mix between Feed and Canceled would make a really interesting movie.

It would be a 10 if we got more explanations!

A movie worth seeing!
Josmitehog5 September 2023
Loved this movie! Not as many jump scares that I expected but the story is good especially if you follow the instagram account, and get to know the backstory first! Even if some scenes were predictable, others wasn't so when you thought you knew the outcome something else happened. Actually I don't appreciate when horror movies have like unreal ghosts/monsters so at first I was disappointed, but as the movie went by it turned out the "ghost" was pretty scary. I can say that after one of the jump scares I couldn't have my legs on the floor, It was just like my hole body was full of fear. And the ending was leaving us hanging, but we could only imagine what happened after all that..

Canceled is gonna make you jump out of your chair
josefinej-735812 September 2023
I really enjoy a good horror movie and Canceled forfilled all my expectations. It had me biting my nails, squinting my eyes from the first scene. Be prepared to get scared more than once. The actors display the right amount of emotions on screen so it doesn't feel like they're over playing. The main actor could have been i tiny bit less aggressive but other than that they all did a good job. I had high expectations after Feed and I wasn't disappointed. This one is even better. If you like scary movies I recommend you watch this one. I won't be surprised if this movie stays on as number one for a long time.
