9/10
HIMYM had a big job to do tonight, what with an excellent two-parter changing the face of the show forever. Barney and Robin get engaged, and now Barney must meet Robin's dad. Meanwhile, Ted and Lily argue about Robin's wedding plans. Add to it a baby Marvin problem, and you have what seems like a standard season 8 episode (which is bad).
The reason "Band or DJ" is much, much better is because it nails the emotional bits, which is one of the show's best strengths. The Ted-Lily conversation was beautiful(great acting!), and Ted's obsession over the wedding believable. I also loved the cornfetti gag.
But the best thing about this episode is that its title works very well metaphorically too. Ted is desperate to hold on to Robin, but will he move on? That does get answered in a brilliant third act, although the 'how' of it is yet to come.
Churn out episodes like these, and I won't mind a ninth season.
