Funny?
Jackbv12318 November 2018
Whether you find it funny will probably go a long way toward how much you like this movie. I didn't find it funny but then I'm not into that kind of humor.

The love story was cute but predictable. Also, why would Alex fall for Cassie instantly? Because silly humor was the goal, it's hard to judge silly scenes as plot.

Corey Sevier is OK as Alex. Something was off about Briana Evigan, maybe too much just standing there trying to look what? Sweet maybe and later angry. Brooke Burns stole many of the scenes especially ones the ladies were in together. Again is was like Briana was just there and Brooke was the star of this movie. I actually identified more with her than the lead of the movie.

Goof: Cassie sits down holding a tray that's supposed to be hot because she's got potholder gloves on, but she lays the tray directly on her bare legs.

Not the total wreck it could've been
robynlouise-8070010 December 2020
The storyline in this movie was abysmal. I hope the writers have gone on to bigger and better things because the world does not need more movies like this written. But what saved it was the acting. Movies like this tend to be really over-acted, and this one wasn't. Specifically, kudos to the girl playing Cassie, who I thought had wasted her talent playing this poorly written character.

Weirdly cute

Warning: Spoilers
If you want something deep or more interesting plot this movie is not that kind of movie, because this movie is not for everyone, But if you want something lighthearted and kind of kooky this would be it. The movie plot is predictable as all other movies out there, and wile there wasn't any twist to this movie besides the antagonist starting to date with the Cassie's lazy and weird brother, I was amused and entertained enough to sit through all the movie. This movie definitely had some quirky and cringe scenes which for some reason I found thoroughly endearing.

Cringy rom-com with a cheese filled ending.
clauzy8227 December 2021
Unless you're into rom-coms or anything chrimbo then avoid. Awful film, nothing to do with the cast they did what they had to do. Briana Evigan the star in "Burning Bright" couldn't even save this. The cheesey ending in the bakery bumped it up a whole star. My wife put it best "That's an hour we'll never get back." Should I tell her it was 90 minutes?

For the cheesemeisters: that ending in the bakery nearly makes it all worth while.

Predictable Christmas rom-con with attractive actors.
TxMike22 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
My wife and I settled in to an evening of watching holiday movies on the ION network and this one came on. It was filmed in several southern California locations, approximating a small town setting.

Cute Briana Evigan, about 25 during filming, is Cassie who owns a cupcake shop in town. All the locals know she makes the best cupcakes ever, but unexpectedly a couple of strangers come in and they are impressed also. So impressed that they want her to supply their crew with her baked goods while they are in town filming a Christmas-themed movie.

One of the guys, and the star of the action movie, is Corey Sevier as Alex. Cassie and her friend are so small-town that they didn't at first realize he was a popular movie star. But gradually Cassie and Alex fall for each other.

The budding romance is complicated by two things ... Cassie's old boyfriend, with whom she has joint custody of their dog, is trying to get back together with her. Also, Alex's former girlfriend, who is in the movie they are filming, is trying to get back with him.

Both of these issues, plus Cassie's small-town sensibilities, cause a number of fits and starts, but we all know how it will turn out in the end!

A pleasant rom-com, particularly for Briana Evigan who is as cute and perky as can be.

Hollywood Child Briana Evigan Gets Another Role
Christmas-Reviewer29 August 2016
Greg Evigan will always be the dude from "BJ and the Bear". That was a TV series that was a ripoff of "Smokey and the Bandit". His TV Legacy continued with the "My Two Dads". Not exactly the best television shows ever made. If those shows were not bad enough he was able to get his daughters Vanessa and Briana in the business. Luckily in this film we get the more talented daughter Briana but they should of cast Vanessa.

In this film a Hollywood film comes to a small town and the big star of the film sweeps a local baker off her feet. Then when things start moving along the movie stars ex-girlfriend gets cast in his film and she is out to get him back at any cost.

One major gripe I also have about this film is the fact it is not really "A Christmas Theme" film. I have a feeling it wasn't originally set during the holidays. There is no "Christmas Feeling" at all to this production.

There is plenty of things to like about this film however the last 20 minutes and the final scene is stupid. Briana is great but she deserves a better role.

If your looking forward to watching a "Christmas Theme" film skip this . If you are looking for something good skip this.

CSPAN has more more entering moments than this film

Doesn't shine like a star
TheLittleSongbird1 March 2022
This rating and some of the review is probably going to sound like it has been written by somebody who hates Christmas and criticises anything Hallmark and festive. Far from the truth on all counts. Have seen some surprisingly good Hallmark films, festive and overall, and have liked some of the Christmas films seen recently from this year because they succeeded in charming the viewer and warming the heart regardless of the cliches and formulaic storytelling.

'A Star for Christmas' is not one of the best of my recent Christmas film viewings seen as such a fan of Christmas and needing some serious distracting from health woes. Neither is it one of the worst. Somewhere in the low middle if anything. It is certainly semi-watchable and much better than the basic plotline looks like on the page, with some things noticeably done quite well. 'A Star for Christmas' is also not a great film either, with some obvious flaws that are as noticeable as the good things. So not a must see but far from a must avoid as well.

Will start with 'A Star for Christmas' good things. It is nicely photographed and has a quite magical atmosphere in its best parts. Always love nostalgic festive soundtracks, and 'A Star for Christmas' is no exception to that. There is nothing mean-spirited about it and there are moments of charm and heart.

Corey Sevier is a likeable male lead and Brooke Burns steals every scene that she is in.

Briana Evigan is significantly less good though, she looked and sounded wrong for her role which needed someone younger to pull it off rather than someone trying too hard and coming over as annoying and affected. The rest of the cast felt overdone too in very cliched and unsubtly written roles. The dialogue has its moments but really could have done with more energy and too much is very forced and cheesy.

Direction tends to be too routine. Predictability is inevitable in festive Hallmark films, but the predictability here was excessive with at times contrived situations and stereotypical characters and the pace was like the dialogue, more energy was needed. The ending is even cheesier than the dialogue and is also incredibly rushed and unrealistic, especially regarding the antagonist.

In summary, pretty mediocre. 4/10.

Was this written by an 8 yr old girl?
docm-3230416 December 2018
Unbelievable garbage. Bad writing, bad acting and just unbearable to watch. The "women" act like little school girls going over anything in pants. The male actors are just plain weird. Don't waste your time this is a real stinker that should be burned.

Makes Me Smile
jewelie-2739520 November 2019
I honestly don't know why I like this movie so much, but I watch it almost every year. It's quirky, odd, and endearing...and the bakery setting is delicious. Yay for cupcakes! I know some say the movie is not very "Christmas-y", but maybe that's one of the reasons I like it. It doesn't take itself too seriously.

A poorly written movie with atrocious acting. I was looking forward to curling up on the couch to watch a nice Christmas movie and now I'm irritated that I wasted my time. Don't waste yours.

Fun, quirky, cute
honeyofbak18 November 2018
A STAR FOR CHRISTMAS Personally I loved this lighthearted quirky movie. Loved the eye candy, Corey Sevier, Travis Van Winkle and Sean Stone, all who carried their characters nobly. Well done guys, amen. Kudos to the girls also to Briana Evigan, Karissa Vacker, and Brooke Burns, job well done. The storyline was funny and enjoyable. I say it was well worth my time. Funny, quirky, cute, steamy. All those nay sayers who think that it is inconceivable that a guy who seems to have it all would fall for a cute, small town gal, I feel sorry for you. Grow up Love is so much more then ill-conceived fantasies. Thanks producers, director, crew for a fun time.

Quite a few chuckles
VetteRanger12 December 2023
I decided to check this out because it has a few people we've liked in later movies, including Briana Evigan. Corey Seivier was excellent in Noel Next Door in 2022 (last year as I write this).

The film started out with two of the most annoying pieces of "new wave" Christmas music I've ever heard, and my first impression was that we would bag this one quickly. Second, it was obviously going to include baking, which I'm exceptionally tired of in Christmas movies.

However, we hung in there for a while and the movie had just enough cute or funny moments to keep me from opting out. It got better as it went along, and gave us some audible laughs.

Briana Evigan is a strange sort of actress. Many of her lines are delivered with too much understatement, and she sounds constantly hoarse. She overcomes that to provide charming characters you root for, however.

This isn't a repeat watch for us, but we were glad to see it once.

Cheesy and really bad acting
EmDee-427-4693442 December 2020
The main female actress Briana is a really bad actor. She looks like she's acting in a kids Disney channel show with fake smiles and awkward body gesturing. Fake cutesy talk isn't a display of adult love either. I couldn't get past her 'acting'. Is she related to someone in Hollywood to be getting roles like that? The rushed cheesy ending with everyone set up with each other was very fake too. That antagonist actress ending up with that guy is unbelievable and clearly was just a plot device for happy every after for the lead female and male characters. The lead male actor could have been played by any pretty boy too with the effort he put into that role.

Lame

Watching this movie was like driving past a car crash. I didn't want to look away even though it was bad.

While the premise was promising (Yes, I noticed the Notting Hill plot), the writing was sub par, the acting okay, and the chemistry between the two leads non-existent.

The ending was also weird. I know it was a romantic comedy so it's supposed to have a "happily ever after", but the writers just completely rushed it, and got rid of the main antagonist but having her magically pair off with Cassie's strange brother.

Disappointed. They could have done better. 1.5 hours of my life I'll never get back.

Disappointed
drbayside11 December 2014
Seemed like a good idea and plot!. I was looking forward to another great Christmas Romance. I Love watching all the ION as well as competing networks Christmas movies, unfortunately there is Zero chemistry between Cassy and Alex. The actor who played Alex is perfect for the part but the actress who played Cassie, in my opinion, was A poor choice. The actress who played Trish (Cassie's friend) would have been a better choice for the role of Cassie. It was kinda like watching a train wreak and unbelievable that Alex would be attracted to Cassie. A Christmas Srar is not one I will be recommending to family or friends. Nor will it be on my yearly "must watch list".

WAY too much snogging, even for a Christmas movie.
jmsbrooker21 September 2022
You watch a Christmas movie and expect to see a kiss or two but not until near enough the end. This one nearly had me reaching for a sick bag as soon as the two main characters meet and virtually start snogging straight away.. It was however a fun and light, film to watch though with lots of comic moments. The idea of the main actor making a Christmas movie within a Christmas movie made for a fine distraction. The five stars I gave it was for the three actresses, Briana Evigan as you have never seen before, and a soundtrack filled with lots of great Christmas songs and a couple of non Christmas ones.

I should consult with a lawyer......abt wasting my time.
unequeblue8 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I want my 1hr and 28 minutes back. This movie was cringe worthy. It's supposed to be abt an "actor falling in love with a baker.

Well in all the "scenes in the movie within a movie" he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag..his acting was horrible. The plot was so predictable . Boy and girl fall in love. Boy is accused of cheating on her with the old girlfriend. The new girlfriends old boyfriend wants her back. Yadda yadda lol I have so many questions, how could he have time to prepare for his scenes and fix up her bathroom up and repair her bakery appliances?

Probably bcuz it wasn't much to shoot....the movie in a movie wasn't very good either lo.

The NOTTING HILL plot gender reversed taking one holiday season
Dunham1610 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Notting HIll revolves around the greatest female Hollywood star taking a year to court a nondescript, no life, small business owner in an out of the way location spending free time with humorous comic plot nutcases. A Star For Christmas revolves around the greatest male Hollywood star taking just the Christmas seaon to court a nondescript, no life, small business owner in an out of the way location spending free time with humorous comic plot nutcases. It lacks the across the board famous performers in even secondary roles punch of Notting Hill but has a charm that works and comes across in the edited print. There seems an excessive number of relatively unfamiliar male performers cast as cheesecake eye candy poseurs which can be ignored by filmgoers watching the movie for something else and a hook for filmgoers wanting to check them out. So many of the characters have similarities to the Notting Hill cast one might accidentally predict the next screwball twist which is supposed to be unexpected in screwball comedy by remembering what happened next to the parallel cast member in Notting Hill.

a very excellent movie, with all the typical Christmas-romantic movie-things.
xarcx4 December 2017
The movie had many twists, the cut of the scenes was refreshing, the editing, however, was awful, yet in a cute way. Loved the movie. At first, the movie might seem as a B-movie, however, let not the low budget, unknown actors, or the lazy plot fool you. The movie really is something special. In its own way, it manages to do something most Hollywood movies do not.

Funny, sexy and nice to watch
julie-5021019 August 2022
First I wasn't so sure about this movie, when I first started it. But after watching the whole thing I really loved it. It's a lighthearted and quite funny film. You shall not take it to seriously and just enjoy the beautiful main characters (Corey Servier;) and the really funny scenes. I enjoyed watching it and will watch it again. It's really not so much about Christmas, so you shouldn't expect that. But it's a really funny and cute movie to watch, especially when you like Corey Sevier...
