When Spartacus stops the rebels from attacking the Roman troops, he says that he recognizes their formation and knows that they did not intend to engage in battle; recalling his time in the Roman Auxillary. Within the shroud of mystery surrounding the origins of the actual Spartacus, some historians have surmised that he may have in fact been Roman himself. Most of what little evidence exists however, supports his being from Thrace and the idea supporting otherwise continues to circulate unsubstantiated.
