Yes, Some Plot Holes
Hitchcoc20 February 2023
In perhaps the weirdest circumstance involving murder, an artist who puts his work up on billboards, drops his past, slips and fall, and lands on the murder victim. He is stuck to him the whole time they are prepping the body. The victim is a standup comedian. And the possible suspects revolve around comedy, the clubs, the writers, and so on. There are some nice touches along the way. It turns out the kid who fell is a sort of secret artist known as Zed. Angela is a great admirer of him and ends up kissing him at some point. But Angela is disappointed by the guy's reaction to her work. There is also a scene where Booth must deliver a comedy routine at an open mike night to help catch the killer.

What do you call a grizzly bear in the rain? A drizzly bear

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is definitely not one of the better Bones episodes. I have some issues with the development of both characters and plot.

For starters, the body this week is glued to an artist when they fall off a billboard. What are the chances that this artist drops his bucket of glue onto a dead body and then fall onto the body so that it perfectly lines up. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of them trying to remove remains from someone, but this is just so unlikely.

My next big issue with the plot is that the killer's lawyer just lets him straight up confess to murder. What is the point of this guy getting a lawyer if the lawyer lets him just confess to the whole crime? The lawyer didn't even put up a fight, he just sat there letting the killer give very specific details about the murder.

I just feel as though this plot of this episode wasn't thought out very well. It seemed like a throw away episode that didn't do much to advance what we know of our character. On top of that, it didn't give us an interesting case of the week.

My issue with the character development for this week is all about Angela. In the past few episodes, Angela has mentioned a little bit about not being happy with her job or that she is feeling lost. I think this could be a really interesting concept to work with and it fits with the character of Angela because we have seen in previous seasons where Angela talks about how she was never interested in the dead bodies, how she is an artist, how she wants to move to Paris, etc. However, I don't think the writers did this part of Angela justice in this episode. Angela spends most of the episode being salty because Zed told her that she has "excellent technique" which is apparently not a compliment (which I sort of get because I think Angela wants the message of her art complimented not her ability, but I wish this was explained more). Then, at the end, she paints a piece on some building to prove a point and Zed tells her that it's great and now Angela is happy again. This is the part that really bothered me because I feel like this journey about not being happy and feeling lost should not be resolved with one compliment from some famous street artist. I think Angela's character development deserves more than that and I hope that the writers do more to help resolve this.

Overall, this is my lowest rated Bones episode coming in at a 6/10 because not only was the case not super interesting but it had holes. On top of that the writers did Angela dirty by not giving her the development she deserves.

Best part: hearing Bones laugh at dad jokes at the end of the episode

Worst part: Angela randomly kissing Zed and then Hodgins being okay with it because Angela explained it as it being like an auntie kiss.
