One of the best episodes of the show. Great Godfather style format and the way Phil portrayed Michael Corleone is absolutely hilarious!!!

The Godfather: Phil Dunphy Style
pwithee2424 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is easily one of my favorite episodes of Modern Family--heck any episode of any TV show ever. The reason this is so great is one-hundred percent because of The Godfather references as Phil and Claire are about to become the godparents to Flugencio Joseph Pritchett. The main idea of this episode is that Claire is busy and unable to help the kids with their problems. Haley accidentally runs into her employer's lemon tree, Luke calls his teacher mom and everyone is making fun of him, and Alex is having problems with a birthday party of one of her classmates. Phil tries and fails to win with kindness by trying to convince these people to be cool about the problems going on, but he totally makes things worse. Meanwhile, Jay and Gloria deal with family drama as Jay draws a parallel between himself and Phil and Gloria's mother and himself. Another very funny thing about this episode is Lily's sarcasm that she picked up from Claire. Cam and Mitch worry their butts off that they are setting a bad example for their young daughter, and are greatly relieved when they find that Claire is the culprit. Cue the awesomeness: Phil and Claire go up to the alter to Christen Flugencio and the same organ music playing in the Godfather as Michael's godson is being baptized. The show draws a brilliantly funny comparison between the two baptisms as Luke does some dirty work to get back at the people antagonizing the children,in the same fashion as Michael's mobsters kill all of their enemies. Both Godfathers know that as they "renounce Satan" that they are involved in darker deeds, and it is a hilarious spoof.

Modern Family Fulgencio

Warning: Spoilers
Gloria has had her baby now but the thing that annoys Jay is her loud family coming to visit. Jay comes down with the baby and it's obvious he does not like Gloria's mother or sister much. Phil and Claire are the godparents preparing or the christening. Lily is having another attitude problem and her parents believe they should show no negativeness in front of her. Claire is absent from the house while the children of problems, Phil then must take over her job even though of them want his help. Jay and Gloria's mother fight over the name and it's obvious she does not have much a liking to her. Mitchell and Cameron thinking they are bad parents act nice in front of Lily and get dis-invited to a party. Phil try's to solve all four problems facing his family and the results become worse for everyone. Gloria try's to act nice to her sister because she feels responsible for taking her life but her sister seems quite depressed. Claire hears about her kids problems at the mass and cannot help but make jokes which makes Cameron and Mitchell realize Claire is the bad parent influencing their child. Episode ends with a godfather style ending with Luke reeking revenge on many people and also Phil's office becoming like the godfather's office with Claire left on the outside. The godfather scenes were funny but nothing really specially funny done. Nothing made me laugh and I only watch this show because it wins Emmy's, I still complain every time it wins.

EPISODE GRADE: C (MVP: Ty Burrell)
