Now it makes sense. I sort of stumbled on to Scott and Bailey (and I'm thankful I did on a quiet TV viewing day) towards the end of season 3, and when I tuned into Vulnerable during another round of repeats soon after, I wondered was it deja vu all over again when I saw Gill leaving Costco and well you know what. We are introduced to Helen, who plays a pivotal role in season 3. Helen is played by Nicola Walker, who is married to Barnaby Kay, who played DAC Ned Hancock in New Tricks.

The "Eight months earlier" leads to an explosive finale to season 3.

Also in this episode we see George Costigan, who was famous for playing the adulterer in Rita, Sue and Bob. Anyway, his on-screen wife in that movie was played by Lesley Sharp! George and Lesley shared screen time in this episode.

One reason I like Scott and Bailey is the scenes around Manchester and the cold weather and all that.

Warning: Spoilers
I generally love Scott and Bailey, but this episode stands as the one I hate. The treatment of Nicola Walker character, as a survivor of lifetime sexual abuse, is ridiculous and ham-handed. It was a cringeworthy episode that brought the entire series down.
