Movie was pretty good and worth watching for alien fans
bradleyd63 September 2014
Just watched the movie and i thought it was pretty cool for an alien abduction movie. I can't understand why some of these people are giving it such bad reviews. If you don't like alien movies then don't watch it. I bet you could ask these same people giving bad reviews, what alien movies do they like and they prob can't mention any. @IndieDavid says in his pathetic review that the camera lasts for several days on one battery, well the movie only goes for one 1 day and 1 night and the child charges the camera at night. So Indiedavid didn't even watch the movie he just wants to turn people off a movie he has never even bothered to watch.. I am pretty harsh on all movies so 6/10 is pretty good review for me.

Fun alien horror filmy.
petarmatic12 November 2014
I actually had a lot of fun watching this film. I did not expect a lot, but I received in actuality interesting and jump-scary horror alien film.

Acting is very good, these actors almost made me think that it is a real, based-on-the-truth film. If I understand from other reviewers that this plot is only loosely based on the true events, which makes it really just a fun film to watch.

I would like that US government finally comes out with the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth about aliens and what is true and what is not. There is too much different kind of what is true what is not true, many books written about the issue. It is finally time to tell to the general public EVERYTHING that is known about the issue.

If you are into alien horror movies you should see this film, otherwise you could see it only as time waster.

Good execution on found footage film.
Patient4444 April 2014
I'm going to start this with some constructive criticism: you know what failed here? The subject! After Grey Skies, Dark Skies, or to make more of a connection, Skinwalker Ranch the plot becomes somewhat used already and you are quite familiar with everything that's going on. It was the one thing that really managed to bug me, so, all in all, I had to focus on other aspects of the movie.

The acting was good, mostly believable, the characters depicted a normal family, the decisions taken during the movie were natural, the encountering scenes OK, so on a scale of one to ten, I labeled it with a 5! But I may have been a tad bit hard on it. Probably it will have a grade of a little over 5 in the end when the votes will come flushing.

Anyway, for found footage fans I will recommend it, for horror fans, again, you can do a lot worse than this, and for someone out there that is really bored, give this a try.

As I said from the title, the execution is the key. They did a good job, sad they decided to use this subject. Again!

Brown noise mountain lights

Warning: Spoilers
This is another found footage movie, this time the footage comes from a camera which has been dropped out of a UFO where aliens are torturing someone with a dentists drill. Luckily the camera has survived several days of use without recharge and being punted out of a flying saucer from near-orbit. The aliens are mad to throw away a camera that reliable in my opinion.

So the movie has shown you the ending within the first few minutes. The family themselves are bland and uninteresting but there are some funny moments and I mean funny as in badly done. Witness the argument that explodes out of nowhere in the car when they suddenly decide they are lost.

"I didn't make the mountains! They go up and they go down!" That's just the kind of thing people say to each other during car arguments isn't it? Not as funny as the way the aliens flat-pack their victims during abduction though. What a ridiculous effect.

When the aliens do show up it causes the camera to malfunction in a convenient way that shows you very little and instead gives you a blast of annoyingly loud noise to make you jump and some annoying jittery images of rubber alien masks to go with it.

Complete crap
ElwenTindomiel12 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I rarely ever write reviews for movies, but I hated this movie SO MUCH that I felt compelled to write one. I was shocked to see so many positive reviews. I would not have expected even a single one. The aliens looked fake, the acting was absolutely atrocious, and there was no suspense at all.

Firstly, the movie starts with the ending, so within five minutes you will already known what happens to the family that the story revolves around. Sure, this has worked in some movies, but not this one. This alone totally ruined it for me. Why do I care about watching this family stumble around the woods for an hour and a half when I already know the fate of each and every one of them?

It also didn't help that the entire film is filled with poorly written dialogue, with even worse actors spouting the cliché lines again and again. At one point, the family encounters a backwoodsman, who actually tells them, with a heavily laden southern drawl, something along the lines of, "There ain't no help around here, lady, you're in the deep woods!" Noooo, really?

I only gave it a 2/10 instead of a 1/10 because there are a few scenes that will make you jump. And I'm pretty sure the only reason I jumped is because I have an irrational fear of aliens to begin with.

Overall, this is a movie to skip. Found footage movies are normally bad anyway, but this one is just plain old garbage!

Not bad for a 'found footage' movie...
paul_haakonsen3 May 2014
"Alien Abduction" turned out to actually be better than I had anticipated it to be. Especially given that it is yet another of those awful 'found footage' movies. Found footage my... The movie starts out with "the following is actual leaked footage from the US AIRFORCE..." And I must admit that I was ready to get up and find something else to watch already when I saw that. Actual footage? Are you kidding me? So that is why there is nothing but actors portraying characters in the movie... It just doesn't get more ridiculous than that.

But I hung around and gave the movie a chance. For a 'found footage' movie, then "Alien Abduction" wasn't all that bad. The storyline and the thrills were what kept the movie afloat and it made it bearable to witness the hand-held camera point of view.

The story is about the Morris family who venture into the Brown Mountains for a camping and hiking trip, when they witness a strange light phenomena in the sky and then suddenly find themselves running for their lives as strange creatures are stalking them and an eerie light seems to track their every movement. But being in the mountains, there is no one to call for help and very few places to go.

The acting in the movie was alright, and people did seem to bring a certain amount paranoia into their acting, which really worked out nicely.

"Alien Abduction" is good enough entertaining for a single watching, especially if you have any kind of interest in extraterrestrials and UFOs.

Not bad for a "found video" movie
rich523 November 2015
I had to give it a 5 out of 10 because it is the best hand-held video-cam movie I've seen yet. The characters seem real, and likable, and the performances are pretty good. This beats the daylights out of Cloverfield and every other "found" video I've seen. There are actually some aliens in this one and the effects are fairly well done. The video quality is also the best I've seen so far. Even though the scenario has been used all too often, this one has, all I've seen so far, beat hands down. Is it a great movie? No. Is it a good one? No. But it is fair. It is entertaining and, if you like the found video types, it is worth a look.

Better than you'd think
tommifalk3 January 2015
Let me start by saying this: I rate movies based on the genre, acting and technical work. I might rate a sci-fi 10, and then go on to rate The Shining 9. Different genres has different criteria!

Now for Alien Abduction.

I don't scare easily, so when I started this movie, I were expecting some cheap laughs, and no real horror-moments.

Well, I have to say I were fooled!

This movie actually succeeded in scaring me several times, and the acting is pretty good.

I thought I'd had enough of "found tapes" movies, but I definitely want more now! I rate this 7, because it's one of the better movies of the genre.

Worth a watch!

Dreadful
indiedavid28 April 2014
I don't even know where to start with this review since the film was bad on so many levels. We decided to watch this after seeing it on IFC On Demand. There were three couples and 4 of the people fell asleep. However, I had the pleasure of sitting through this poorly executed joke of a film. At times, it seemed more like a parody or a comedy but the rest of the time, it just seemed like a sad, amateur attempt at a stale format. There were dozens of significant story flaws including a GPS that can actually find remote camp sites in the mountains, electronic interference that disables every electronic device except for the camera shooting the footage, a consumer camera that can survive a 20,000 foot fall and can run for several days on a single charge. If you see the trailer and think this film seems interesting, it isn't, just keep moving.

Although it lacks some originality, it's awfully well made.
planktonrules10 April 2014
"Alien Abduction" is an example of a so-called 'found footage' movie. In other words, much, if not all the film is supposedly real and was filmed by victims of some sort of supernatural event. The best example was the hugely successful film The Blair Witch Project—a film that cost practically nothing to make and which earned many, many millions of dollars. It's odd, but I have seen very few such films, though I thought the Norwegian film "Trollhunter" was absolutely brilliant and is a real must-see.

When I looked through some of the reviews for this film on IMDb, I noticed that they were a mixed bag. Some really liked it but several didn't and complained that the genre is over-saturated and other films like "Alien Abduction" have already been made. I would agree with this sentiment, as although found footage films can be wonderful, after you've seen a couple, the well starts to run dry. Because of this, no matter how good Alien Abduction is, for many it's an example of too many and too late to care. If, however, you've not been exposed to these sorts of movies, then "Alien Abduction" is certainly worth your time.

The film is set around Brown Mountain in North Carolina—a place where many actual reports of glowing lights have been reported by many. Because of this Alien Abduction has an advantage because weird sightings have been reported in this area for years. Interestingly, I actually lived a couple hours from there and NEVER heard about such stories while I lived in North Carolina…but when I checked online, there were many, many reports. I am VERY dubious about all this, but apparently many people do believe aliens might be involved.

The story concerns a family that is going camping around Brown Mountain. They seem very ordinary in most ways—and this was a positive thing. Because they seemed just like other families in most ways, it made the supposed found footage more believable. The only oddity is that the youngest child supposedly was autistic and loved to film EVERYTHING—and that is supposedly how we got all this footage.

While the family has seen some weird lights, the enormity of the problem doesn't sink in until they happen upon about a dozen cars all abandoned— with doors open and belongings scattered everywhere. While searching through these vehicles, the men in the family are set upon by aliens; you know--the Roswell types you so often have seen in films. But, being a found footage film, you only catch tiny glimpses and it's all very hard to make out. What isn't hard to make out is that Dad disappears— taken by these creatures. Soon, the rest of the family is running for their lives and the aliens seem content at picking them off one at a time.

So is the film any good? Yes. I think it was constructed very well. I loved the music—it was probably the best thing about the film and really helped build the tension. Additionally, the acting was believable and I liked the footage seen at the very end of the video camera being tossed out of the spaceship (which, by the way, was also used at the beginning). All in all, a tense and exciting film in a glutted genre.

By the way, if you do watch, don't turn off the credits as you'll get to see what appear to be interviews with folks who have seen these strange lights at Brown Mountain—though, interestingly, none of these people have claimed to have seen aliens.

Another Jump-Scare-POV film. With aliens. Boring, poorly filmed, I'd actually take more pleasure watching it before all the crappy after effects were put in, then at least it could pass for a B movie.

As most POV movies do, it tried too hard and relied too much on after effects and shaky camera work to hide poor directing, weak narrative and forgettable characters

Reminds me of a film a saw a few years back of the same name but it was also called: the mcpherson tape. This was basically a larger budget version of it, and it was still pretty rubbish!

Still, alright for a cheap laugh

Scared the bejesus out of me
voxclaris2 January 2017
How on earth does this film have a 4.8 average? I know some people automatically pan "found footage" movies, but give me a break. This is beautifully executed, tense as hell, and worthy of your time. The camera work deserves special mention, managing to both look like camcorder footage and serve as a clinic on how to work in low light and brilliant light to excellent effect. The sound design is brilliant as well - I watched this with headphones on and found the experience entirely immersive. In short, if the plot description interests you, don't be swayed by the low rating. This is a fine flick, as good as any found-footage film I've ever seen, and it's one of the scariest films I've seen - found-footage or not.

Better than The Fourth Kind
victoryismineblast23 April 2014
A family of five on a camping trip gets more than they bargained for when they run into some nasty aliens hell bent on terrorizing and abducting them.

This one doesn't follow the oft used found footage formula of waiting until near the ending for the good stuff to happen. Rather, strange things begin to happen almost immediately.

Although there is not much new here, it is fun to follow as the action amps up by the minute. There are quite a few scary scenes and jump scares. I found this to be a lot more fun than, say, The Fourth Kind.

All in all a worthwhile time-waster. 7/10.

Yet another forgettable found film pseudo-documentary.
suite9222 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The Morris family drives in the North Carolina mountains near Brown Mountain during vacation. Some unnerving events, such as dead crows falling from the sky onto their van, contribute to the family getting lost on the winding mountain trails.

Then follows the usual failure of electronics, such as GPS, cell phones, and radio. One of the more discouraging phenomena was the finding of a whole large tunnel full of vehicles separated from their owners.

After more scary passages, some of the Morris family finds Sean, a local who likes guns. He helps them as best he can, but that is not good enough.

How many of the family survive and return to civilisation? Does the 'documentary' impart any particular wisdom?

-----Scores------

Cinematography: 4/10 Found film and worse.

Sound: 6/10 The sound added some edge to the proceedings, and I could usually make out the dialog.

Acting: 2/10

Screenplay: 5/10 The story did sort of hang together despite the cinematography.

Not Bad
DansLeNoir8 April 2018
The film was different from general similar types. In general, in such films, the monster is found in the last 10 minutes and all characters die. There is no such thing in this movie. I liked the difference for that.

Other than that, Riley, who holds the amateur camera in his hand, sucked on the character. The character was not even counted. The cameraman had better put it directly. It was a stupidly created character expected to be so silent and believed to be autistic.

Apart from that, it was given the opportunity to show the aliens in advanced technology more powerless to escape the film. This is bottoming out realism.

The movie was definitely not realistic. It was not nice either. Scared was a film that gave a sound effect and a sudden performance like all American horror movies.

I gave it 4 because the score is different only from these movies and because the tension is not too boring.

There's nothing outstanding about this film.
Cherylpongrass20 April 2014
I was really hoping to see the next Signs, but what I got instead was Cloverfield. The acting was actually pretty great, all things considered, you could tell that if they were scripted it either wasn't heavily so or they're just really good at portraying their scripts. Their location was great, and the focus on tiny details and accuracies were what gave it the four stars it got. It only got the four stars because of it's over all MOVIE quality. For a horror film, it's lacking atmosphere and tone, and it's sort of stereotypical, but in a bad way. In a bad way twice. First, because even in a stereotypical horror movie there are some thrills you can drag out of them, a few gut-wrenching moments when you have to close your jaw so you don't bite your tongue cause you know something's about to jump-- but this movie somehow manages to not only be stereotypical of a found-footage horror film, but also miss that mark completely. It came close to being a B-rate horror film about aliens, but in the end, there was no cigar for them.

Rated "F" for Failure.
theoceansidelife5 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I gave this movie a 2 Stars out of of 10 Stars.

I was excited to see this movie after viewing the trailer.

Spoiler*

The Aliens were done so badly. The intro was okay, but the end was devastating, actually the whole entire movie blew goat nuts. . There was nothing great about the movie, and there was too much screaming, plus girl drama. The Alien Greys looked fake when seen up close. This movie was crap. Don't waste your time, not enough cool scenes, or aliens. Probably only showed them twice, see Skin Walker Ranch, it's better.

At lot of shaking.

I enjoyed Independence day better

One of the worst movies I've seen in a while.

Pathetic acting and pathetic reasoning by the actors due to pathetic writing. Let's hide in another man-made structure because they will never think that we would run from one easily found place to another! Unless of course some douche like Robert Lewis is calling the shots....We can lose them by screaming constantly and waving flashlights around!

I cant write anymore, it's just too painful recollecting every single pathetic minute of that terrible movie.

Do yourselves a favour people, skip this trash and watch paint dry, it will be more exciting.

Alien Abduction? more like Cabin Fever
LiamBlackburn5 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Compared to my most recent favorite horrors (Skinwalker,Banshee), this one doesn't quite measure up. Still, I love seeing alien movies. I don't like the massively overdone Southern accent on the guy from the cabin. That actor was weak actually. The aliens look cool, the fx are really good. At least you get to see the aliens early on. Basically once they make it to the cabin, the movie becomes slow and dull and you are left wanting more. The movie should almost be called Cabin Fever not Alien Abduction. The mother actor wasn't very convincing; the child actors are good though. This is not a shocker type of horror, it's just not quite as fine-tuned as that. I really want to give this movie a higher rating because it's an alien thriller, but it just doesn't deserve it. Pretty much half the movie is them hiding in a cabin while the movie is short to begin with. There are some legitimate tense moments with good shocks, but it's overall lacking that OOMPH factor.

Mediocre found footage horror
zetes19 October 2014
A family camping in Brown Mountain, North Carolina is threatened by alien invaders in this mediocre found footage feature. For the most part, it's a serviceable entry into the found footage genre, but when the aliens appear, they love to jump into the frame suddenly and roar. These are the most violent alien abductors ever. They're basically the Predator. I love how they explain why the camera-toting character never drops his instrument in this one: he's an autistic kid - even though he seems to have no problem communicating with anyone else, even the strange, scary redneck they run into. This pales in comparison to the original found footage abduction movie: Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County (which some nutters still claim to this day is real).

Not Bad. Worth a view if this is your thing.
duffyscript21 September 2014
Well I cannot say this film was not entertaining. It at the very least kept me going throughout the whole movie. The movie picks up very quickly and gets you into the creepy stuff rather fast. It has got some good scares and even an intriguing enough plot to follow. If you are one who enjoys the found footage genre or the alien abduction horror genre, then there is definitely something here for you. I wouldn't go into this with high expectations though. But the movie does deliver what it sets out to. So if you read about this film and it seems like your thing, or if you into movies akin to Incident at Lake County, Skinwalker Ranch, or Fouth Kind, give it a shot.

an horrifying personal experience
princevlad-105-4884909 November 2014
This movie is trying to be a shoot on camera horror thing in which it fails completely, form one end to the other. The story is classic, some guys go to a cabin in the middle of no where to spend some family weekend time. The script is bad to very bad, with illogical and non sense to stupid dialogs. There are no characters, just fourth rate actors who play as bad as their league are in. One of the script character is an autistic kid which seems everything but that. Everyone who read about autism knows that such a person can communicate with exterior being trapped in his own mind. But this kid, oh boy, he talks all the time and seems, by far, the most intelligent from all characters involved in the story. Avoid this garbage at all cost, go do something else worth doing.

This is a hit or miss for some people. If you love found footage, or freaky Alien films, you'll LOVE this. If you don't like found footage or Alien films, then WHY are you reading this? You shouldn't even BE here, in the Horror/Sci-Fi area of IMDb.

For me, this was a heart pounder. I loved it. From the opening to the ending, I couldn't take my eyes off this movie. There were a couple things I would've changed, BUT the over all effect was great. Extremely well written, and filmed. Believable effects, and the best camera money can buy apparently Give this one a shot, as I said if you like Alien movies, being scared, and edge of your seat tension, this is a movie that should be in your collection.

My Review Of 'Alien Abduction"
ASouthernHorrorFan14 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
"Alien Abduction" is a found footage sci-fi/horror film directed by Matty Beckerman and starring Katherine Sigismund, Corey Eid, Riley Polanski, Jillian Clare in a story that a blend of documented family adventure through the eyes of a camcorder, and the true unexplained phenomenon around Brown Mountain in North Carolina. The family struggles against an invasive and brutal alien threat while on vacation.

This film is pretty intense with a standard start that seems to kick off most found footage film. The drama and suspense comes from the fact that all you see is what the camera shows you. The audience perspective is through the eyes of the youngest family member who is practically attached to his cam in the movie. Not knowing the full surrounding, or greater understanding of the environment, actually creates suspense and intensity in "Alien Abduction". That is a cool trick when it works, a lot of films fail to capture this element fully, "Alien Abduction" creates a tense atmosphere filled with melodrama. The middle of the film sort of drags and the added character trying to help the family actually takes away from the momentum a bit. That is just the middle though. The last act kicks in with the expected benchmarks that service found footage films well.

The effects and soundtrack in "Alien Abduction" is hit and miss. The standard gimmicks apply in this film as in most films in this genre. Sometimes it works perfectly and creates some chilling moments. Most of that is due to the heightened drama from the characters and the fact that camera view is limited in found footage. However the action scenes are hit and miss as to being affective. The aliens tend to show a bit 'fake' when they are clearly on screen but the times they are only flashed or shadowy creatures in the distance actually gave me chills.

"Alien Abduction" has limited sound effects in order to keep the 'realness' of the intent cohesive but the sounds that the camera picks up offer some sudden shock moments that made me jump. To be honest, all alien movies that show this particular alien species creeps me out, as if they are the boogeyman that is really scary. "Alien Abduction" is an entertaining film but it is average compared to most films in the found footage subgenre. The visuals, direction and gimmicks are expected but they work well and this film does what it intends to do- entertain and thrill.

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why, but I felt that this was going to be a different alien movie. I was wrong.

Not only it fails to be fresh and new, but also fails to entertain.

I'm starting to loathe "alien movies", that don't show a single alien on focus. There should be a "low budget warning" at the beginning of the film.

The acting is also very poor.

The only reason I kept watching it till the end, is that I wanted to see at least one alien face.

A waste of time, if you are looking for something new.
