- An elderly couple offers to buy Grayson's house in exchange for becoming part of the gang. Bobby renames his boat, and Travis looks for a new Penny Can partner.
- Welcome to COUGAR TOWN Call your mom, tell her you love her. We're trying to do something positive with these.
Jules (Courteney Cox) isn't happy with the boys. She cooks a delicious dinner for them (OK, they order out), but they won't help her with the dishes. In their defense, Rudy (1993) was on and Sean Astin was about to go into the game. Fortunately, Jules can convince the guys to make dishwashing just like the movie...if Rudy played offense instead of defense. Yes, Travis (Dan Byrd) was in the role of Rudy, and we even got Grayson (Josh Hopkins) to say Jon Favreau's famous line: HE'S SO LITTLE! Of course, Jules thinks this can work with cleaning the garage.
Jules was finally able to sell Grayson's house. An older couple, Anne and Norman ( and ), bought the place hoping they wouldn't be the old neighbors nobody talked to. And Ellie and Grayson didn't want to hang out with them, either. (TRAVIS: It's not so bad; I do it all the time.) It took some convincing, but Jules managed to get Grayson, Ellie (Christa Miller), and Tom (Bob Clendenin) to join the new couple for an early dinner. In fact, they liked it so much, they even decided to try going to bed at 6:45. Which freaked Andy (Ian Gomez) out, because he couldn't hang out with anybody. Bobby (Brian Van Holt) has been with Riggs (Maria Thayer) a lot, even sharing a Top Gun (1986) high-five and a kiss with her, which used to be their thing...other than Maverick and Goose kissing. (BOBBY: Well, if they did, it would be a more-honest movie, now wouldn't it?) But Bobby thought Andy wouldn't like trying to catch snakes with Riggs and him. It was Bobby's latest get-rich-quick scheme. But it turns out none of the three wanted to hold a snake, unless it was attached to Bobby and Riggs got to hold it. But since Andy was willing to take one for the team, Bobby made him his permanent partner. (ANDY: Ha-ha! He's my man! I'm just kidding, but not really.)
Travis' efforts to find a partner for his Penny Can tournament at college wasn't going well. Perhaps he shouldn't have mentioned he was going to use his part of the money to buy the prosthetic third boob from Total Recall (1990). (ELLIE: If only I were 21 again so I could not date you.) The obvious choice would be the lady with five stepdads and had to be brought back from the dead at least three times: Laurie (Busy Philipps). However, she was still a bit freaked out about her feeling for Travis. Andy told her she just had to go to a party; she didn't have to sleep with him.
LAURIE: (laughing) Go to a party and not sleep with someone? Come on, I guess right afterwards I'll just go to the post office and not mail anything!
But it was freaking her out. So much so, in fact, she took it out on Travis when they renamed Bobby's boat (for a change of luck, since none of his get-rich-quick schemes were working) to the Sea Story.
It turned out, Jules, Grayson, and Ellie were liking wearing sweaters and eating dinner at 4PM. But it turns out Anne and Norman liked getting freaky in Jules and Grayson's bed...and their jacuzzi. (In fairness, Anne married Norman because he was great in bed.) Jules asked them what the deal was, but Norman just gave her the "old man wink," which meant he pretended he understood what she said. But Anne told Jules to stop acting old because that's how you lose in life. They left a retirment community because they felt so old there, even buying one of those Rascal Scooters to go shopping (which Jules thought was awesome, natch). The second you're OK with feeling old, you stop wanting to be young. (Oh, crap, I've been old since I was 12, and not in the cute Manny way on ) As the Dylan Thomas poem once said (that I pray they didn't steal from Back to School (1986)), rage against the dying of the light.
Andy had gotten over his fear of snakes...that or he stopped crying simply because he was out of tears. But it turns out Bobby was more fearful of getting close to Riggs, thinking he'd screw it up the way he always did. And despite Andy liking that Bobby picked him, he told Bobby to get over his fear and serious with Riggs. And he did; he asked her to go snaking with him. Complete with live snakes...that scared the hell out of all the customers in the restaurant.
Travis went to find Laurie, whom she assumed was still mad at her. But he brought a Sea Story sign they could put on Bobby's boat. She apologized for acting so crazy, and Travis reassured her if she had any problems, they could work it out. The entire gang went up to Travis' college to play Penny Can, and Laurie agreed to be Travis' partner (much to Sig's relief)...and they won. And somehow Jules took a Penny Can to the face.
BTW, those Rascal Scooters were a lot of fun. Jules, Grayson, Ellie, and Andy certainly enjoyed them.
