Bag it
kosmasp3 September 2014
Found footage has its claws everywhere by now. Even with this comedy, about a group of girls trying to party and celebrate the night before one of them is going to get married. Fittingly (if you want to see it in a positive light) the German title of the movie became "Hangover Girls" (with "added" 3D effects for some odd reason too).

Not every joke is hitting the spot (if you'll excuse the pun), but it has some nice drive to it or maybe its the charm of a B-movie that surrounds it. I thought it did well to hide the fact that it didn't have enough money, by making things appear as story elements (we can't go there, because ... something or other). Of course this can be seen as cheap too (which it literally is), but I'm not holding that against it. I've seen worse but obviously also better movies ...

How fast can a bachelorette party in Las Vegas spin out of control? Pretty fast.
The-Plague12 June 2014
I think that after seeing 'Bridesmaids,' and 'Bachelorette,' I went into this film a bit tired of bachelorette party movies. I love soon to be married women going crazy as much as the next guy, but I think enough is enough. 'Best Night Ever," which is by far the most far-fetched and over the top of the three movies, follows Claire (Desiree Hall) as she heads to Las Vegas with her two friends and her older sister. Unlike its two predecessors, this movie is shot in a pseudo home movie found footage way, which makes it more annoying than unique. It was irritating when 'The Blair Witch' Project did it, and it is irritating now.

I deemed this movie watchable because it does have a story line that flows well, and trust me, you won't get bored. The film certainly had its moments, most memorably a situation where roles are reversed and the women are punished for touching male strippers. Although there are some humorous parts of the movie, it is a far cry from an intellectual comedy. This is what I have referred to as a "pee your pants comedy," but it falls short of others that I have previously watched. I challenge you to watch the movie and not laugh, but I also challenge you to tell me its merit outweighs its flaws.

Writer/director's Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are known for writing "spoof" comedies, and this one doesn't seem very different. 'Best Night Ever' is a movie that seems like it would attract a female audience, but it is certainly made for men. The four main characters are constantly challenging themselves to be as immature as possible, and to keep the party going. This movie reminds me that girls just want to have fun, and guys just want to watch.

Ladies trying to be funny
I like movies like Bridesmaids and the To-do List where the girls put it down like the boys in these raunchy comedies. Remembering the time when Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett, put down the slapstick better than their male counter parts. Now we have giants like Kristen Wiig and Melisa McCartney setting the bar high for the ladies that try to follow them.

Perhaps a little too high for this late night comedy about four women on a bachelorette party that goes out of control. The film had it's moments, like in a role reversal situation where the girls are penalized for accidentally touching a male stripper, whose becomes offended by it.

But the movie still feels like more talk and less action with their attempts to be on the same level of wildness like you would see in the Hangover. In all fairness though it is a direct-to-video B-movie, so how much could they do?

The movie's down point was the found footage point of view angle, with one of the ladies always holding a video cam. Whenever this approach is done badly, it really degrades a movie that had potential.

The whole movie felt like it was written for dudes to star in but then rewritten poorly to have the roles be female. I give it an A for effort in my book, but there better flicks to watch than this.

Nope, don't go see this one
swo018 March 2014
From the makers of Disaster Movie and the likes comes a new low.

The story is a failed rip-off from The Hangover where 4 women: the rich neat sister, the weird one, the loose one and the one about to be married head to Las Vegas for a bachelorette party, their booking went all wrong so they just go out to get as drunk as they possibly can. What follows are seemingly random scenes akin to the stories my wannabe hip uncle tells at birthdays.

Still, if everything else was great it could have been saved. Unfortunately this isn't the case. The acting ranges from bad to mediocre. The editing only makes it worse, where sometimes people respond 2 seconds too late to shocking news. And the camera is horrible, they went for the handy-cam way of shooting the movie which makes for crappy quality and constantly gives you the feeling that you're watching some embarrassing home video that didn't quite make it to the funniest home videos show.

If after all of this you still want to see it, watch the trailer instead as anything remotely funny or worthwhile is in the trailer.

if you watch comedy, you wont recognize this POS

Wow...I've never seen a movie that tries so hard to be funny yet misses every single time. At no point did I laugh, smile, grin, or chuckle. Even worse, it wasn't even the kind of crappy movie that you can laugh at how crappy it is. The funniest part of the last hour and 40 minutes of my life is when I read a reviewer say its a "female hangover with a few more laughs". In order to find this film in any way funny you have to be on whatever drug that aforementioned reviewer was on...my guess is laughing gas, and lots of it. I have literally found two separate funerals I have attended in my lifetime funnier than this movie...FUNERALS!!! (Long story on the funerals)

Friedberg and Seltzer continue their unfunny streak...
RevRonster23 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The Brightside? Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have made another movie and it is NOT a poorly executed parody. The Darkside? Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have made another movie.

"Best Night Ever," even though it's not the atrocities that are suppose to pass for parodies and satire, is still a terrible example of bad filmmaking and even worse storytelling from two of the most mystifying men in Hollywood. The mystery? Why exactly they get work and are allowed to write and direct films. The bigger mystery? Why do some people enjoy them? There's barely a story going on in "Best Night Ever" and it barely is enough to warrant the razor-thin plot the movie tries to have. The film is just a haphazard collection of girls going from one party moment to the next and, more often than not, they are presented in montage form to sound alike club hits because the production couldn't afford the actual songs you hear on the radio. But don't worry because all the bad attempts at being funny and the predictable failure at said attempts are here and keeping Friedberg and Seltzer's reputation of being completely devoid of what it takes to write a decent joke intact. In fact, this film is so groan-inducing and terrible at its attempts to be funny that I started to question whether or not the intention was to be a comedy to begin with and not just some random art film filled with one-dimensional characters, random partying imagery and complete nonsense. However, then the next scene involves stealing jokes from other, better films and I realize that Friedberg and Seltzer are just terrible writers.

"Best Night Ever" has no redeeming factors and is barely worth the time to watch it—even if you are putting it on in the background while your vacuuming or doing something that is a better use of your time than watching a Friedberg/Seltzer film. There's no point in beating around the bush or getting cute here: "Best Night Ever" is terrible.

Hello there, good looking! Wanna read a more in-depth review of "Best Night Ever" or experience other, better movie reviews, geeky rants, mad ramblings and bad jokes (but not Friedberg/Seltzer bad)? Then you can head on over to my blog; revronmovies.blogspot.com. Or, if you don't care or hate me for no reason, then you probably shouldn't go to my blog.

Absolute rubbish
gnat100-574-26142124 May 2014
Worst. Movie. Ever. I had high hopes from the trailer but what I found was a pathetic mix up of Hangover, Bridesmaids, and Springbreakers. The acting was awful, the supposed 'handy cam' viewpoint annoying and unrealistic. I only kept watching it out of a dark fascination of how far could their train wreck go. Blood, defecation, sex toys, gratuitous violence, it goes far in all aspects and in extreme bad taste. Nothing humorous at all in this movie unless perhaps you're really into toilet humor. And throughout all the mishaps the girls remained make up and hair perfect with nary a streak of dirt on their clothing. It's completely ridiculous. Save a couple hours of your life that you won't get back and avoid this movie.

More Handcam Crap
sylent1-9-1936398 April 2014
When is Hollywood going to realize that five things are necessary in good cinema: great camera transitions and camera work, a good soundtrack, interesting sets,a convincing premise-one that enables you to suspend disbelief, and good acting. A camera artist can suggest someone making love by a slow pan to a window sill, can change sets by panning to a tree. Camera work is an art and one that I especially enjoy in movie entertainment. It's time to throw the young turks with their belief that you can make good cinema with a handcam out on their ears. Good camera transitions have identified good cinema since.....Citizen Kane. And even light romcoms benefit from good camera work.

A good soundtrack establishes how you FEEL during the scenes and are especially important to the finale of the movie. Interesting sets can make the dullest movie more enjoyable. And a good premise combined with good acting can enable you to suspend disbelief in the wackiest movies- can make you believe in elves and dragons for a short time. Just saying-throw the handcam away....or give it to a family with a kid and get back to REAL cinema where the sum of each artists work is revealed in the whole.Anyone that makes movies any other way is wasting their time and yours.

I can't help it. It's pretty funny.
flicklover9 March 2020
I didn't see this movie in the theater when it came out. I had no interest. I have not watched any of the Friedberg and Seltzer spoofs since they never do well and are pretty much hated by critics. I caught this on prime. I have to admit I laughed quite a bit in spite of myself. It is really just a found footage mashup of Bridesmaids and The Hangover. It has no story just 4 friends in Vegas having an awful night during a bachelorette party trip. Its fast moving and very crude. These guys make the Farrelly brothers seem tame! The actresses are all pretty unknown but give it their all. The film has alot of energy. The good thing is that it is short. I laughed hard multiple times.

Grade: C+

Zero laughs, zero chuckles, zero smiles; derivative feel-bad comedy.
suite921 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Claire goes to Las Vegas for a bachelorette night before she gets married. She is accompanied by her sister Leslie and friends Zoe and Janet. Zoe is Claire's best friend, and does most of the filming using a hand-held camera. Janet is the rude and barbaric friend.

The trip starts out somewhat normally, but the plans crash when Zoe discovers that her credit cards have been stopped, and her reservations have been canceled. The evening gets worse after that. They get robbed at gunpoint by a valet; they lose money, identification, shoes, engagement ring, and so on.

After some binge drinking, they steal a car, kidnap the wrong valet to get the engagement ring back, and get screwed over in a drug deal. The manage to elude the police. They use drugs and go to a bachelor party after being mistaken for hookers.

By some magic, the quartet fails to get arrested or be killed for the multiple felonies they commit.

-----Scores-----

Cinematography: 2/10 Hand-held.

Sound: 2/10 Terrible leveling. During one interval, the editor inserted sub-titles because the words were indecipherable versus the background noise.

Acting: 0/10

Screenplay: 0/10 Completely derivative. If you have seen a Hangover film, or Bridesmaids, then you have pretty much seen the content of this one.

Funny and goes farther then Bridesmaids did. This will probably be funnier to women but I liked it more then I expected.
cosmo_tiger12 April 2014
"One day you'll watch this and thank me for filming your last night of freedom." Claire (Hall) is getting married and her sister and friends are throwing her a bachelorette party in Vegas. The plans are all laid out and everything is going to plan...until they go to check into their hotel. Things go from bad to worse very fast. Between stolen credit cards, bad hotel rooms, being kicked out of a strip club and a drug deal gone bad the four friends are experiencing a night none of them will ever forget. I will start by saying first that I was not a fan of Bridesmaids. I thought it was too girly and I know most guys feel the same. I was expecting a movie along the lines of that so I wasn't all that excited about this. Seeing that this was another found footage movie made me even more skeptical. Watching it though changed my mind. This is nothing amazing but it was funny all the way through and in some places it goes farther then Bridesmaids did. This will probably be funnier to women but I liked it more then I expected. Overall, funnier then I thought and surprisingly worth seeing if you just want to watch a low budget fun ride. I surprisingly give this a B.

Giving this movie a -10 out of 10. Yes, it's so awful it's going to take some points off of the rest of the stinker list. Hollyweird has lost its marbles.

Let's play the "I hate women" game
StevePulaski10 April 2014
One must give longtime parody directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer some credit for branching out into new territory with their latest film, Best Night Ever. Being that the duo has grossed millions upon millions of dollars with each abysmal parody film after another, the duo had really no reason to stray from their niche; they found something that worked and made them a great deal of money each time. Why become diverse when they've already stuck gold? But randomly and all of a sudden, a film by the name of Best Night Ever was thrown into production by them, a raunchy comedy centered on an all female cast of characters who are hitting Las Vegas for their one friend's bachelorette party, which turns into a messy state of affairs after they are robbed for their money, purses, shoes, and their jewelry, including ones expensive wedding ring.

What ostensibly would play like an exciting and fun romp akin to Bridesmaids, or even The Hangover, however, turns overly-crass, shamelessly raunchy without even a hint of wit or subtlety, and exhausting by the thirty minute mark. As someone who was slightly (but cautiously) optimistic about how Friedberg and Seltzer's style of comedy would be conducted for a film wasn't a competition for references, I was disappointed (but unsurprised) that their humor outside of overcompensating references is largely predicated off of grotesque shock humor, where the female characters say and do the most revolting things in hopes they are funny enough for the audience. Lines like "My g-string is like a slip and slide" and witnessing a woman urinate and defecate on an innocent man's face is what we have to succumb to watching Best Night Ever.

The four female leads have almost no personality, so why refer to them by their names? Let's call them what they are; The Bride-to-Be (Desiree Hall), The Uppity Sister of the Bride-to-Be (Samantha Colburn), The Obnoxious Best Friend of the Bride-to-Be (Eddie Ritchard), and The Lewd and Dirty-Mouthed Friend of the Bride-to-Be (Crista Flanagan) all set out to have a fun girls night out, filming their travels thanks to the help of a hand-held camera. After The Obnoxious Best Friend of the Bride to Be tries to make a cocaine deal after the girls get kicked out of a strip club, the quartet of girls are robbed for everything they have and must find a way to get money in the heartland of Vegas so they can return home.

It's a tad frightening how much Friedberg and Seltzer seem to hate their female characters. The movie predicates itself off of showing them getting into trouble, being entirely irresponsible, childish, petty, and downright annoying, with consequences to their behavior at every turn that are ugly and downright cruel. Think Spring Breakers with none of the social commentary nor insights; this is true bad behavior on display with nothing significant to say at all.

The film is almost entirely comprised of scenes involving total hell breaking loose, chaotic parties, and the girls racing from place to place in a stolen limo. The editing here, is disastrous, with the hand-held-camera being another useless gimmick, and cuts, shots, and entire sequences being assembled in an incoherent order. The entire cut-and-paste editing job here fails to give the scenes in the film any feelings of placement and basic structure and, in turn, we get a cacophony of madness in the sound and editing department.

Speaking of sound, in addition, towards the second and third act, almost the entirety of character dialog is comprised of obnoxious screaming, yelling, and exhaustive, high-pitched noise. This style is absurd and annoying, especially when one realizes this is what the film substituted actual character development for.

What we have here, in summation, is an attempt at something "new" for the directors that revolves around making female characters look disturbingly irresponsible and juvenile, characters who don't even deserve an assigned name, repetitive and downright unfunny shock humor, awful editing, and a script where about two-thirds of the lines of dialog are written out as *high-pitched screams from all the girls.* It almost becomes bad enough to the point where saying that the film is better than Friedberg and Seltzer other films isn't even an accurate statement.

Starring: Desiree Hall, Samantha Colburn, Eddie Ritchard, and Crista Flanagan. Directed by: Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.

Left bad taste.
fourtwentytax2 July 2014
Not saying that this is the WORST MOVIE EVER, because Hollywood has put our some real crap and I have watched too much of it. But do you know how after you've eaten something that leaves a bad taste in your mouth you have to eat something else to get the taste out. Well right now I am trying to find other movies with these lovely ladies in them to take the bad memories and images out of my mind. As I can remember some of these actors in other productions they were not this bad. I remember Crista Flanagan on Mad Men and found Desiree Hall on and Old CSI:Miami DVD. I vaguely remember Samantha Colburn as the mother of an kidnapped girl in a recent Criminal Minds episode. All of these roles showed more talent and range than this. I am certain I can write better acting by these ladies in my dreams.

not the worst choice for a free movie on a stoney afternoon
rcarter-6155928 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The premise is typical for these types of movies, chicks of differing stereotypes go to vegas and take advantage of know one requiring anyone to remember anything from visiting the city. Wild antics that do push the envelope further than bridemaids and bachelorette. Kinda on par with best night with ilana glazer.

Would recommend enjoying some adult herbs and just relaxing and lowering expectations. It is funny, but no you probably won't cry laugh. It is for sure outrageous and that kept me watching.

I like that at the end they give a where are they now narrative, because it does help answer the question, well if after all that, did she get married?

Unfunny over the top antics
Floated22 October 2022
Considering this wasn't exactly a parody or spoof film (although quite a mash up of the Hangover and Bridesmaids), sees Best Night Ever as the first "original" film by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.

The entire plot is essentially a mix of the Hangover (but starring women), and Bridesmaids. It's an adventure film with no real plot but a lot of unfunny skits and over the top gross out antics. They tried making this film to be different with the use of found footage she handheld camera to make it seem more like a mockumentary.

It's a Las Vegas film and shows the typical Vegas lifestyle we've seen in many films before.

The characters weren't completely bad but they weren't anything special. Some definitely felt like carbon copies of the Bridesmaids' characters.

The film seems to think that mean spirited jokes are funny. However everything fell flat.

Also a lot of electronic and DJ music played throughout. The entire "21 challenge" thing they did wasn't exactly funny or amusing and it dragged on. The ending was predictable.

Stick with it, and you will find there is a lot of fun to be had. Once they loosen up so does the story.
face-819-9337269 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Yes right off the bat you will compare this to The Hangover, and that is a totally fair comparison, but this movie is not just a rip off of that franchise (even if they hit every mark, and miss not a single Hangover style joke, or action). This really is something just a bit far enough left of the Hangover movies to be considered different, and almost unique. This is much closer to Bridesmaids than Hangover, but that still doesn't give it it's fare due. These girls in Women's bodies go all out on a one night no holds bared bucket list style adventure that starts out like a terrible found footage movie that looks to be going nowhere at all. After a very slow start through things just explode with more intensity the further down the hole these girls travel, while all the while a bond is forming that you can feel that is the real good glue that makes this movie work. I was so close to just giving up on this movie in the first 10 minutes, and even up to the point where they encounter the Valet the acting felt very forced, and the jokes seemed mean, and the chemistry of the players just didn't feel real. However from this point on after the girls were suddenly left with nothing (but a magic camera that takes shots from all angles, and edits itself) but themselves to rely on, and no one to call for help, and yet they are still out to make this night something special, and it was from this point that I really did Enjoy the rest of this movie, and can recommend it to grown up type folks, there are some very adult scenes, as well as some very childish scenes that will take you by surprise. I say give it a chance, and stick with it through the slow start, then don't miss the bonus drive through scene at the end of the credits it is a good little piece of improv.

Way better than its 4.3 rating
rdoliver-6611213 November 2022
I decided to give this movie a try because it looked interesting, and it wasn't bad! It's a small, independent film with a lot of heart and a lot of laughs. I enjoyed it.

I don't know what the budget was for this film, it couldn't of been much, but it was well acted and directed. The characters are fun and funny. The story has a lot of twists and turns, and you never know what's going to happen, which is always fun. I think people should be a bit kinder to small independent films, considering they don't have the budget of other films out there.

The film is fast paced with lots of surprises, and I think everyone involved did I outstanding job, even considering the budget! Give it a shot, I think you'll enjoy it, if you don't go in expecting Forrest Gump.

Fun low budget comedy
mattwilcox21 June 2014
Low expectations = high reward. Fun goofy movie. It looks like a low budget attempt at a female "hangover".

I went into this movie thinking it would be a throw away/time killer. I was pleased to laugh out loud. It's not smart by any means but it's is funny. Best Night Ever is more "Hang Over" than "Scary Movie". It is over the top but not as slapstick as scary movie.

If your a Vegas fan like I am, you will need to check this out for the location scenes. There are a lot downtown, and a few on the strip. ... ....... ..... ........ .. ...... ....... ...... ...... .. ...... ..... ...... .... ..... ....... ....... ....... ........ ....... ....... ...... ............ ...... .... ... .... ....... ..... ....... ..... ... ... ....... .... ..... ..... ..... .. .... ..... ..... .....

I'm not one to pick apart a movie on minute details, I go for the enjoyment it gives me. I don't care if the filming is a little off as some have said, I care if I'm amused. Why pick everything apart, where's the fun in that? If you want to nit pick ,lets see you do better. I personally loved this movie. I laughed and laughed and enjoyed it immensely. I will watch it again. If you are looking for a laugh and aren't out to pick a movie apart for childish details, then this is the one for you. I loved, loved, loved it. A female Hangover with a few more laughs. Check it out and have a good time, I sure did. I may watch it again tonight.

If your looking to watch a Vegas, Party, Comedy, Your in the right place!
imaginecorbin17 July 2014
If your'e a fan of Vegas, Party Comedy's, I would recommend you watch this movie. It involves everything a Vegas, Party, Comedy should have, Boozes, Drugs & Strippers. Three hot girl's taking a trip to Vegas for a Bachlorette, Ending up making some bad choices.

There are a few advantages & disadvantages, At some parts it can be funny but at some parts this movies can be boring. This movie need's to involve more of the Las Vegas atmosphere & joy towards the viewers. This movie is set in the streets of Las Vegas a lot more than the centre of Vegas this connects to the boring parts of the movie.

Writer/director's Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are known for writing "spoof" comedies, and this one doesn't seem very different. 'Best Night Ever' is a movie that seems like it would attract a female audience, but it is certainly made for men.

Better than the Hangover...
imdb-2006423 April 2016
If you liked the hangover you should like this one also. Maybe because it were now women in the lead(s) I found it more amusing than that 'original' (is there such a thing as an original with a movie like The Hangover?). The storyline is unlikely but believable most of the times and the comic situations usually will bring a smile to your face. All in all I enjoyed it a lot better than I expected from the 3.9/10 rating. Most of all it's entertaining, mostly has a good pace and good music. Another good gimmick is the blurring of other peoples faces, like this was an actual 'mockumentary'. The only thing I personally don't care for are poo and pee jokes, but there was just one of those fortunately. Loved the 'situation' with the male stripper :)

Funny asf
hhorton-428484 September 2023
I thought this movie was funny asf personally. It has its cheesy moments but I caught myself laughing out loud multiple times. Great movie for the ladies night in, had some raunchy humor which I love. Deff based off events from the hangover but I think that's the whole point lol I love it from the female perspective, and I love the multiple types of personalities in the group, that was definitely relatable. It truly had me laughing and actually paying attention through out the movie, multiple dramatic situations but not a movie that is gonna be heavy when you just looking for a fun movie you can not take so seriously and just watch for a laugh i definitely suggest this one.
