I get a kick out of the professionals that complain that the show is unrealistic. I do the same for law enforcement shows. This is TV. Tell me which show is factually correct in every respect. Take NCIS one of the most popular and successful series ever. I was in federal law enforcement for almost 30 years and the stuff they do is so ridiculous. But it is entertaining which is what these TV shows are intended to be.

This show isn't the best show I've ever seen, but it's definitely a good one. The story isn't always consistent, and neither are the characters, but each episode brings a fun and new issue that the cast has to deal with. I watched this show with my little sister and we had a lot of good laughs and got completely hooked on the story. So although it's not revolutionary, super unique, or well written, it's entertaining and will do the job of stopping any boredom you might feel. Ragosa is my favorite :)

I would say this show deserves more than it's current rating.
I see folks bash it but after watching more than 1 episode ( most bad reviews watched the pilot and crucified it ) I can say this can have a future. It's well done the acting is good enough the cases are interesting and the whole military guys coming to the be a doctor at a hospital in a night shift is pretty interesting.
I would say, give the show a chance it can grow on you. I know the market is a bit saturated and over the whole medical drama theme. Now if you are completely over medical stuff then there is no convincing anybody.
I myself am never over good shows and this seems to be a good show. I ve watched till episode 5 and it's getting better and better.

This show is terrible, but on a level where its almost playing on all the cliches that make network tv so bad. Which is why i love this show.
It feels intentional by the producers, eerily similar to 90210, Party of 5, and Dawson's Creek of 20 years ago. Random slow motion scenes, ridiculous explanations for what caused the patients trauma, way over dramatized ER power struggles out of no where, wierd sexual tension, the stereotypes are perfect and extremely unrealistic, problems are solved out of no where throught an episode, and relationship paralyzing issues over the most random things. The acting is so on point, just like one of Christopher Guest's infamous mockumentaries.
If you despise network programming between the hours of 7-10 pm Monday-Friday, there is a good chance you will love this show.

I look forward to viewing the summer shows but Night Shift is the BEST new show I have seen in years. I hope the NBC has the good sense to bring it back for a full season!!! The characters are rich and well developed. The plot lines are excellent and the writing is superb. Having worked the night shift in a hospital years ago I can appreciate the various trials the staff has to endure such as shortage of staff, equipment, etc, but even to the layman this show has everything to offer with the story lines, suspense, a little romance, the hesitation of new doctors trying to care for their patient's with as much expertise as their limited experience allows and glimpses into the past of some of the doctors that contribute to the people they are currently.

This show was really awesome for the first two seasons. I really loved how it was done and how the characters were so relatable and worked so well together. Sadly .. the third season did a total 180 and it absolutely ruined the show for me. They removed really great characters without even giving them a goodbye episode and one of them was just gone with an explanation. Honestly, just everything about the third season sucks, and I'm really sad that they went such an awful direction and made it so unwatchable.

I hope this runs longer than one season. I found it charming and uplifting that there could ever be a place where people meant more than the bottom line. The characters seemed to fit.The heart was in the place with each doctor nurse and staff. Maybe it is too much for some just coming back from duty, but I liked it. I will be tuning in each week to see what happens. I would class it in line with N.C.I.S and hope it stays around. I wish more shows were of the drama involved here.Inspired. Tragic brings hope without terror.Keep up the good work. The facts are that they don't take entertainment serious anymore. Casting works in this case the seem to fit just right.

I like this series and this hits many good marks on the point of the show plus contentious points in real life.
They miss a lot of cultural points unique to San Antonio and the actor lineup of the guests are all standard LA actors you see in many shows around the networks.
Where this show really misses the marks are to focus on the reality of the culture. First, San Antonio is a MAJORITY Mexican (yes, Mexican, not Hispanic and not a pejorative) city. It was part of Mexico BEFORE it was part of Texas or the USA. The city still embraces that heritage regardless of your particular race. There are few Mexicans on the staff whereas the hospitals in SA are representative of the local populace. There are more black people in this hospital than Mexican people which is insultingly wrong. I may be lily white, but where I shop, eat, and do anything, I am surrounded by not just 85%/15% white / black people.
After their shift they talk about going out for pancakes and grits. That is totally the EXCEPTION for San Antonio. Elsewhere, this would not make sense, but in SA, its the Breakfast Taco. This is a normal tortilla filled with eggs / potatoes / chorizo / cheese / bacon or sausage. The countryside was settled by Germans and Poles in the early 1800's so you find incredible Polish Sausage and Kielbasa so even if they don't speak English, the restaurant has good sausage in the breakfast tacos. Only place in the country with this unique combination. You can't swing a dead cat in San Antonio without hitting a church or a restaurant that has breakfast tacos.
Things they hit right are the military that come here and when they get out they stay here. Many of those military also have brown skin. It is good to see how the former military still maintain contact with current military but they always ask the white guys when they need military help and they seriously downplay the Asian doctor's service when it comes to phoning a friend for help. Only the white guys can reach out to other white guys in the military when they need military help?
The show also calls it wrong in hiring someone as a Physician's Assistant and treating them like a Physician's aide. A Physician's Assistant is an ACTUAL Title and has the same power as a Nurse Practitioner which have specific boards they have to pass, get their own patients, and write prescriptions. They're treated like doctors and given the same responsibilities except that a doctor simply has to review/sign off on their charts so they're NOT treated like assistants like in the show While actual specific privileges vary between states, they're treated like doctors almost universally.
I feel slightly insulted they rely on a Mexican to translate to local immigrant families when in reality many of the staff who have skin of a different color (white or black, etc) would also be fluent. It's just part of the culture in SA while in California there's more of a stigma to it. If you're not Mexican and you speak some of the language, it's normal but in California it's often shunned. San Antonio embraces this which creates a more congenial atmosphere.
Reminding you that I have no Mexican heritage, hopefully you can see my point about the fact that the writers simply don't get the SA culture. They rely on cliché actors which unfortunately becomes rather bland quite quickly. Maybe they could reach out to Robert Rodriguez in Austin to grab some talent that would make an impact (no pun intended).
It would be great of the writers to interface the hospital staff with the Burn unit at Fort Sam which is widely considered the best burn center in the world.
In the show there are lots of pranks which are often funny and good spirited. In the real world, most of those would get someone in real trouble with the hospital policies since there is always that ONE person who complains and creates an actual incident out of a harmless prank as an HR issue. How I wish life could imitate art in this.
EDITS: I am 13 episodes.
After seeing it is filmed in Albuquerque, I must ask why they never thought to film in SA which would be MUCH less expensive and give them local shots. Shooting in Alb is completely out of touch. Might as well film it in Portland for how different it's from SA.
If there are 5 unique cities in the country including New Orleans & SA, why not use the actual city because there's no substitute for unique.
After reading the other reviews on blatant medical blunders, I would stress to the writers including a little more showing of washing hands, changing gloves, and medical sanitary procedures they would naturally follow while chatting which happens a lot more than chats up at the counters or store rooms. Doesn't waste film, just changes the set locations. Other than that, get over it since there is a review by a surgeon and everyone knows surgeons aren't mere humans. Yes, there is cinematic license, but use a medical adviser since half of the decisions shown where doctors ignore protocols would get them immediately suspended due to liability reasons and the malpractice insurance concerns. Sorry folks, doctors aren't rebellious when they pay 50K+ malpractice insurance but this is ignored for drama.

It's the night shift at the San Antonio Memorial Hospital ER. Many of the staff have connections or serve in the military. TC (Eoin Macken) is an Army Ranger doctor struggling with PTSD. Dr. Jordan Alexander (Jill Flint) is his ex. Topher Zia (Ken Leung) and Drew Alister (Brendan Fehr) are also Army. Paul Cummings and Shannon Rivera are two of the younger doctors. Dr. Scott Clemmens (Scott Wolf) has a fling with Jordan.
This wants to be ER with a military spin. It's functional for what it attempts to be but it is not breaking any new grounds. The military aspect can never be big enough although it does try awkwardly sometimes. This is mostly a medical show. A few of the cast have some good chemistry but they can't maintain the serial flow. The romantic melodrama is never that great. The main cast is stable but there is often a shuffling. It's a summer replacement show which eked out four half-seasons.

I find it quite funny how the general public of today can't give credit where it's due. This show, any show at that is geared for entertainment purposes and that's that.
I find "The Night Shift" entertaining, well acted, thought provoking and greatly paced. Just because what unfolds during "The Night Shift" may not follow protocol of an actual E.R. that doesn't mean it should take away from the show,IT'S A SHOW FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. If you don't find this entertaining go stare at a rock.
You also have to realize, this show brought plenty of people work for an extended amount of time. I happen to be personal friends with one of the main, lead actors. I spent quite a bit of time on set and the effort put forth for this show to become a success was immense! Everyone worked their tails off, everyone took pride and the local economy/workers prospered greatly. If a show, as this one can boost a local economy (like ABQ, where filmed) then fantastic. Also, for all the under qualified naysayers of this show, tune in next season for season 2 of "The Night Shift." Enjoy tonight's episode!

Show was pretty decent for season 1/2, did some things differently then the standard ER show and did them well. Season 3 had some issues but wasn't all that bad. Season 4 is just a mess. It's hitting all the negative tropes of an ER show, the story itself is all over the place and the "big event" for many of the episodes are just ludicrous. Sorry to see the series end on such a sour note.

This new series hit the ground running with adrenaline-charged action/Emergency room trauma from 15 seconds into it at a level equivalent to a blockbuster action movie. (I won't reference the army-field procedure in the forest in the first few minutes but it will knock your socks off!) The Night Shift kept the heart-pounding adrenaline up throughout the entire first season! I am enthralled and in love with this series. Great writing, great dialog/sarcasm/character development/ camera/story. This is a SMART SHOW. Any poor reviewers of this show are clearly under- educated. I feel sorry for those folks who left a negative review and obviously hate everything and the people bother to read their negativity. NBC TAKE NOTE! THIS SHOW IS DEVOURED APPRECIATIVELY!! THANK YOU!!! PLEASE RENEW SEASONS 2, [3, 4, 5, AND 6-10
] I haven't been sparked to watch a medical drama (one of my favorite genres since I am a Doctor) since ER. The Night Shift blows Grey's Anatomy out of the water!! Grey's anatomy is a soap opera with a little medicine thrown in for garnish. The Night Shift, thankfully, is centered around original creative trauma scenes with serious medical maiming that the cast has to handle on their own via diagnosis, treatment and surgery, in the same way real overnight ER doctors would in one hospital that serves a lot of military staff. Excellent acting. Brilliant story lines. KEEP IT COMING!!! THANK YOU!!
i started watching the show after finding it on Netflix. After the first episode i wasn't too sure but i carried on watching and now i can say its fantastic and i can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the show.
i recommend watching it, you go on a journey with the characters, you see their past and you immerse yourself in the stories of each character.

I love hospital shows, and this is no exception. But....I am really not a fan of the religious stuff, though. Prayers? This is a show that is based on modern science. I hate it when they make the characters turn to Christianity for hope and prayers. Science should be enough. This is the reason why shows like Grey's anatomy and The good doctor are a perfect 10. Remove the religion, and you guys will reach the number with double digits!

Awesome series. Its heart throbbing, action and comedy all in one! Certainly a great series, its the ultimate best, it shows emphasis on real people and how their work life's contribute to their professional life in the med field, it shows you also how passionate people are about saving lives and the behind the scenes of how real doctors and nurses lives are. The casting crew is amazing... its like they characters are like family members they love and care for irrespective of caste or creed. The comedy is good and the fact that their saving life makes your heart skips a beat with the intense scenes, i seriously enjoyed it and recommend to all. Its addictive, hope there's more seasons to come of this amazing series...

So...I don't usually write reviews, however, I thought about it this time. This show to me was very intriguing. As an EMT, I know that this is not something that actually happens. I like to point out while watching, all mistakes that are made(i.e.people breathing), little things that would NEVER happen. But at the same time I can't wait to watch more!! Love it and plan to watch more of the seasons!

The stories are fresh and compelling. Showing both what the doctors/nurses and staff go through as well as the patients. You'll see laughter, tears and everything in between.

Am enjoying watching this series but won't be staying up late for a new episode. The dialogue is not great & the acting not much better. But still I am sticking it out to see to TC & Jordan get together for their happy ever after. Its no Greys Anatomy. Stick with it if you are only starting the series.

This is easy to watch (well, except for the gratuitous blood and cutting porn). The actors are all pretty much very pretty (as they remark themselves often enough) and the material is easy to understand (and as predictable as 90% or more of TeeVee is). Netflix currently has two seasons, and I am am at the middle of season two. Would I be more rewarded by watching Stranger Things or Master of None - probably, and I will likely get to Master of None soon.
I will say there have been a couple of good cameos, like DB Sweeney, the guy who played Tuvok on Star Trek Voyager and James McMasters (I think the name is, the guy who was Lt Fancy on NYPD Blue). And some of the episodes have been directed by the likes of Eric LaSalle and Timothy Busfield. So there have been some crackling and/or affecting episodes in this fictional effort.
Night Shift is like comfort food, easy empty brain calories you can snack on.

Being a surgeon myself i watched two episodes (first two). I cannot believe my eyes! I know for cinematic purposes medical procedures are a little different from real world. But when you do open chest surgery in the ER, with no masks!!! What are the directors trying to portray here? Drama and coolness abounds but glaring falsity in treating patients must not be twisted. wrong wrong wrong. At least HouseMD and Greys anatomy do not distort the medical procedures (sterility etc). They need a medical adviser to make this better. The first episode with the doctor doing auto transfusion without filtering is again a misnomer with what we really do. I will not go to this hospital ever.
LOVING IT!!! What a great cast, great show, now I'm hooked I really hope there's more coming!!!
