Shriekfest, the Los Angeles International Film Festival & Screenplay Competiton, was a huge success! Denise Gossett, festival director, once again hosted Shriekfest Oct 3-6th at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood. Shriekfest screened almost 45 films and had 30 screenplay finalists and 10 original song finalists. "An American Terror" directed by Haylar Garcia took the Grand Jury prize for Best Horror Feature Film, "Abducted" directed by Glen Scantlebury and Lucy Phillips took the Best SciFi Feature Film award, and "The Last Light" directed by Andrew Hyatt took the Best Thriller Feature Film award.

The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (Cci-iff) for 2013 offers a full schedule of some of the finest in genre films. All screenings and panels for the Cci-iff will be held in the Marriott Marquis and Marina, right next door to the Convention Center (next to the Hall A end). In his award-winning Incident on Highway 73, director Brian Thompson takes us to the proverbial middle of nowhere alongside a couple who go missing on Christmas Eve 2005 after taking a road trip through the desert only to encounter some sinister forces on their travels.
Written by Michael Kirk, the Incident on Highway 73 short film stars Ian Alda and Elizabeth Schmidt as the doomed couple. It is still making the festival rounds six months after its premiere at La's Screamfest last fall. The 12th annual Screamfest Horror Film Festival has ended its ten-day run in Los Angeles, and the winners of the famed “Skully” Awards were announced at the closing night party held at Trader Vic's in the Downtown La Live complex. Read on to see who took home the 10-pound prize.
The Skully was created in 2004 by Academy Award-winning special effects wizard Stan Winston and this year went to American Mary for Best Picture with twin sister team Jen and Sylvia Soska taking the Best Director honors for the film.

Former Ghost House Pictures executive Michael Kirk partnered with award-winning music video director Brian Thompson on the new sci-fi thriller Incident on Highway 73, which is having its world premiere this Friday, October 19th, at Screamfest L.A.

Incident on Highway 73 recounts the harrowing final hours of a newly engaged couple who mysteriously disappear while driving through the desert on Christmas Eve, 2005. Michael Kirk (co-producer of The Grudge and The Grudge 2) and Brian Thompson shared producing duties with Kirk writing and Thompson directing the tension-filled 26-minute short. The film stars Elizabeth Schmidt and Ian Alda (Alan Alda's nephew); it was lensed by Jason Hafer and edited by Dave Gallegos.
