Decent story of a dysfunctional family

Warning: Spoilers
I will keep this review simple.

The scenery is nice. The acting is good. The end seems incomplete, but not too much so.

It lacks any real resolution or purpose.

The characters are all likable enough, and understandable. And with few exceptions flawed, hurt by events in their past.

It's not a bad movie, and might stir up emotions and be thought provoking for some.

Worth a rent/watch if you are looking to kill some time.

The start seemed a little slow, but thereafter the pacing picks up.

It had a very real quality to it without looking video-ish.

There was nothing very hard to watch.

Pointless film

I watched this obscure little film simply because I saw that it starred Christopher Abbott in an early role, an actor I find fascinating and daring who seems not at all interested in conventional or commercial filmmaking. This is early in his career and it kind of shows. Not that he's bad, but he's not terribly interesting and to give him a little benefit of the doubt, the role is poorly written. However, this drama about a family reunion and an uninvited guest is also poorly written. I found the characters annoying and the plot contrivances annoying. One of the key elements here is a father who disappeared when his wife was near death, for kind of preposterous reasons, only to reappear around seven years later much to the dismay of two of his three children. It's a small drama all about family dynamics and it is really boring. Besides Abbott, it offers a cast of talented performers to no avail. It also has some title confusion. Apparently at some point it was entitled Burma. It doesn't matter what it's called.
