Omg so bad
mandyfrimp14 August 2020
This VHS quality faux documentary is equal parts boring and awkward. Poorly produced and featuring fake concerts by old man wedding singer Mayo Nays, it could not end soon enough for me. Creepy hipster ridiculous stuff.

So Boring
latoyacaramelo21 November 2020
This grainy video movie was so boring and made with amateur actors, it was unintentionally funny. There is no real plot, just following around weird looking old man wedding singer Mayo, and his hipster travels to meet various young boys. Lots of preachy self-important nonsense, and looks like it was shot with some cheap camera that's not even real HD oh my. Magnanimous it is not LOL.

Brilliant Film
carafranchi27 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I love this film! It's an extraordinary work of art. - produced, written, directed by and starring Justin Connor who performs his own brilliant original songs and score. Connor takes the viewer into a journey that unearths a painful past and then illustrates his profound shift towards personal and spiritual growth. The Golden Age ultimately offers a message of hope for us all as we take a sober look at where we're headed during this critical point in time. Go watch this film - I promise you that you will not be disappointed!

Beautiful, thoughtful, cinematic masterpiece!

The Golden Age couldn't be a better film to watch during the time we live it. It begs you to consider your choices as the main character does. It doesn't try to push you into the characters way of thinking but is simply a story of pain and hurt, and in my opinion, how powerful self-help and forgiveness are for the soul. Justin Connor is also a gifted musician and his songs throughout this journey with the cinematic shots make the entire film quite a ride!

This is a great ride!

I can't describe ALL the emotional turns I went on during this film. And how many surprises just kept coming. Quite an artistic whirl. Unlike anything else.

The acting in this film is off the charts -- by everyone. The lead especially shows some damn good chops.

Amazing Talent
ladywithaview29 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film was a refreshing departure from all the fodder I have been stumbling upon lately. It begins as a mockumentary of an artist struggling with his demons of youth and the realness of his own artwork as a man. But it develops into a deeply confessional story of a mans search for meaning. I became drawn to his quest to get to the marrow of his fears while trying to unlock his wellspring of true creativity. The music is beautiful while moving the audience through the twists and turns of his epic plight - all of which he composed himself. His journey is in all of us and even though his tale will at times will make you want to cast him off as another stereotypical struggling artist, in the next frame you end up falling deeply associated to his fragility and the face off with his tumultuous past. A great beginning to a hopefully long career.

Visionary

Not a wasted frame. Not a wasted word. Not a wasted detail. THE GOLDEN AGE refuses to allow its audience to watch passively. Every filmmaking decision was a functional and imperative cog which created this fine work of cinematographic art. Maya O'Malley is each of us as we struggle to make sense of our own lives. If there can be such a thing, this will surely become a mainstream cult classic.

A powerful journey of self discovery!

The Golden Age draws you in with mystery and great music. Behind the talent and fame, the universal struggle of existence is revealed. From the depths of pain, we follow a true seeker as he uncovers the deep spiritual longing within all of us. I was along for the rollercoaster of a ride all the way through, laughing, crying and feeling inspired to seek my own spiritual nature.

A rare earnest, honest film filled with humor and goodwill

Warning: Spoilers
What early forces shaped us? How long are we willing to be defined by those forces? What is the cost of our own values? Are we willing to pay those costs in our own lives? But this isn't a philosophy book. It's a wildly inventive, gorgeously-shot and at-times quite cheeky movie that ends with a single glance from phenom writer/ director/actor /songwriter/musician Justin Connor that reminds us (or at least reminded ME!) that this is just ONE view of one story in an unimaginably vast universe. It's both dead-earnest in its service as a piece of art and spiritual devotion that seeks to help humans who suffer - and at the same it's wrapped with layers of humor and layers of illusion like a nesting Matryoshka doll . Look - Maybe none of what I wrote is what the filmmaker intended. But in the end it doesn't matter. You get out of The Golden Age what you put into it. Yes you might come out slightly discombobulated and slightly different. But that change, I'm pretty sure, is indeed the point of The Golden Age.

Plus - music that keeps me singing days later 🎶

A powerhouse movie
betsyroddy30 June 2020
Wow. The original music (which stands on its own merit) plays a central role to a powerhouse movie about breaking down only to build back up using the very parts that were broken. Justin Connor has woven together a brilliant story. The fact that he is the writer, producer, lyricist and lead actor merely underscore what a phenomenal achievement this movie is.

Justin rocks this film!

Warning: Spoilers
I was totally swept away into the story of this amazing spiritual traveler. Little did I know what was waiting for me on the other side! So many shocks!

The music and its performance are out of this world; I i bought the album directly after seeing the film because I needed to hear it immediately! I rocked all night in complete rapture.

The film had particularly sweet hooks for me, having experienced 12-step recovery and having been an ISKCON devotee in 1971-72.

I am sure you will find your own sweet hooks. Watch this film and behold true talent.

Outstanding
moniqueaspiteri1 June 2021
Justin Connor is a genius, his ability to write and script around the character Maya to express his own trauma history is awe inspiring. The soundtrack is amazing and to write, act, direct, perform this entire film over a number of years takes next level dedication, hopefully more independent film makers will take inspiration from this movie - outstanding and highly recommend it.. Bravo!
