An awesome Gravity Falls spin on Halloween
travelertoon1 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Since where in the holiday of Halloween. This review will be on the Gravity Falls Halloween special, "Summerween." This episode actually takes place during Summerween, a summer version of Halloween in Gravity Falls. This episode is about the Summerween Trickster visiting Dipper, Mabel, Candy, Grenda and Soos. They have to collect 500 pieces of candy; or else they'll get eaten. They fail and end up chased by the trickster until they defeat him. Meanwhile Stan Pines is trying to scare two kids.

Out of all the Gravity Falls episodes, besides probably Not What He Seems, A Tale of Two Stans, and the Weirdmaggedon trilogy. This is my favourite Gravity Falls episode, and is an awesome Halloween special, even though it takes place in Summerween.

There's a lot of great animation, like the chase scene between the Summerween Trickster and the gang. Let's move on to the writing, it's both creative, funny, scary and emotional. This episode does a good job on showing Summerween as well as its differences; like using Jack-O-Melons. It's funny mostly from Grunkle Stan, who tries to scare two brave kids. It's scary in a good way, mostly by the Trickster who is an awesome villain. It's emotional, from Dipper feeling that he's too old to trick or treat and Mabel wanting to.

The characters are likable and understandable in this episode. Dipper feeling that Trick or Treating is too childish. Mabel is excited to go Trick or Treating with her twin brother. As well as Candy, Grenada, Soos and Grunkle Stan being a fun addition. I'm going to explain why the Summerween Trickster is an awesome villain. His design is really done and creepy; as well the motivation for becoming a monster. Spoiler alert; he is made up of candy that kids hate, until he was happy that Soos ate him. He is overall an original spin on a Hallowen or in this case a Summerween Monster.

In conclusion this episode features awesome animation scenes. Creative, funny, scary, and emotional writing. The characters are good, and a terrifying but great monster. There is nothing I hate about this episode. This gets a 10/10.

One of the funniest Gravity Falls episodes
jakevitale-7401913 March 2022
This episode is absolute gold. There's so many great lines in this episode, "I ate a man alive tonight", "I've been twaumatized", "That wasn't like a regular pedestrian was it?", not to mention the scenes with Dipper and Mabel trick or treating as twins isn't just funny, it's adorable as well. The opening scene for this episode is also very funny and one of the best of the series. The monster is also very cool. He's creepy but great at the same time. Overall this is definitely one of the funniest Gravity Falls episodes and is definitely worth watching.

The worst one so far

I mean it's still decent but compared to the previous episodes, it's easily bottom-tier. The monster was just a Spirited Away rip-off. Yes, a rip-off, not homage because they never make it clear that it was an artistic choice to have the monster remind us of Spirited Away. I am also getting a bit tired of Dipper constantly growing up and leaving Mabel behind and then at the end apologize. It happens almost every single episode. I do however like how they always manage to tie the A and B stories together, this time it was with the candy.

Cool monster, bad absolutely everything else
yavermbizi26 March 2022
My overall rating of "Gravity Falls"'s Season 1: 3/10.

So I've got to say, the Summerween monster turned out to be legitimately creepy. However, the lame, childish writing, that unpleasant character Grenda (?) (can't help but wonder if there is an agenda there), etc rather kill what could've been a cool episode for me. Even the humour fell flat in this episode, and I like "Gravity Falls" imuch better as a comedy (even though the audience of this site seems to rate comedic, best episodes much lower in comparison with the lame moralising adventure-style ones).
