Promising fresh comedy
roberta-smith75 February 2013
Clever writing. Good characters, Brisk pacing. No annoying laugh track. Very promising. John Doyle of the Globe and Mail" got it right on this one: "There's a lot going on and, at the same time, nothing. Seed touches lightly on gay marriage, non- traditional families and kids who are troubled by their parents and school.

If there's a theme, it's that everybody just gets along, sometimes with helpful advice from the village idiot, a character who is untainted by the neuroses of being grown-up and burdened by middle-class mores.

A lot depends on Korson (who has a lot of theatre experience and a few small TV and film roles), and he's superb as the immature Harry, who has a natural sense of right and wrong and a bizarre brand of common sense. He's in almost every scene and, in the two episodes I watched, doesn't wear out his welcome.

The series was created by newcomer Joseph Raso and developed by Raso and Mark Farrell (also a producer and writer on the show), the latter being a 22 Minutes and Corner Gas veteran. Karen Wentzell, formerly a Trailer Park Boys producer, also produces here. While the production company is Vancouver-based Force Four Entertainment, Seed was made in Halifax using a lot of local talent and it shows – there's that cheerful, expansive weirdness that characterizes Trailer Park Boys, Mr. D and other emanations from that neck of the woods. Thus, Seed is dumb and adorable, and ours."

A show that is fresh and funny if your not a prude
darkmanj2610430 April 2020
Within a week, we have binged both seasons of this show. I loved the cast and the kids are great. The stories are nothing new but still funny. Overall, thisnshow should of been on at least another year or two. How shows like this die after a season or two, but How I met Your Mother and Mom lived on forever. Mom is still on somehow. Either way, give this show a chance. It is raunchy a lot but it has heart, as well. Give it a shot.

A funny comedy, gone two soon...

Warning: Spoilers
I'm honestly very sad that this show got cancelled. However, I did get two seasons, rather than just one, so that's a tick in the plus column. I thought the storyline was really interesting. It seemed like it had been done before, because there was something familiar about it, but alas, it was completely new, and different.

This show is about a man who donated sperm several times, and now discovers that he has a teenaged daughter, a ten-year-old son, and a new baby on the way. The children want to get to know their sperm-Dad, but the parents aren't exactly thrilled about the idea.

Overall, I give this TV show an 7 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Great.

It's A Shame
jsalden23 February 2014
It's a shame that this show was so disappointing because it was a very good idea for a show. The problem is that this show totally falls apart because first of all the acting is terrible, which is the most obvious problem with this show. The actors are very one dimensional and are terrible when it comes to getting across the jokes properly which I admit must be hard.

Working together with that to hurt the show is the bad writing. The characters are not very deep and the lines they are given are not natural sounding or believable, plus the jokes are just not very good at all.

So it is kind of a toss up between the actors not doing a great job and the writers not giving them anything really good to work with. It is one or the other or some combo of both that really hurts this television show.

Like I said it is a real shame because the idea behind this show was very exciting.

Awesome show!!!!!

I love seed, it's funny, and cute. Harry, is my favourite character, he is funny and awesome Seed is a very excellent show, many laughs and never gets old! I can watch it a million times and still laugh my head off, if I were to choose a favourite, I would say either the one that premiered on April fools day, or the one that talented Mark Farrell (Corner Gas, Dan for Mayor) along with others wrote. Actually, 11/10 that's how much I love this show. Congrats Mark Farrell and Joseph Raso, you two along with many other wonderful people have made a hilarious fresh new comedy that I hope gets renewed for another season:watch seed

an inappropriate modern family
SnoopyStyle8 September 2015
Harry Dacosta is a single slacker bartender. Nine year old Billy Jones-Krasnoff tracks down Harry as his sperm donor father. His lesbian mothers Michelle Krasnoff and Zoey Jones are over-protective and he's an odd bullied kid. He's attracted to Rose Maybely but she's on her way to the fertility clinic. Instead of paying for the expensive procedure, she tries to have sex with Harry. She discovers that Harry is a lying idiot and goes back to the sperm bank where she gets Harry's sperm anyways. Anastasia Colborne also tracks down sperm donor dad Harry. She's rebelling against her strict psychologist mother Dr. Janet Colborne and brow-beaten father Jonathan Colborne.

This is modern family in an odd way. I think the oddball connections probably throw some people off. It hits on some awkward subjects as comedic fodder. At its core, it's still a traditional family sitcom. It's a very tiny core. Adam Korson has the slacker bit but he needs more likability. The kids are fun and the family dysfunction is funny.

unfunny
gregberne113 June 2018
Unfortunately this show was not funny at all. city tv had ads all over the place and it looked like it would be good but it was a serious disappointment to me. kept trying but it didn't get any better and then was canceled fast, probably a smart move. the lead adam korson was the complete wrong choice for this role and the show just was not funny at all.

A FUN show canceled too soon!
LeoTHolmes25 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Can't believe the one star reviews.

I guess haters gotta hate.

Single slacker who donated sperm finds he is a father to a teenage girl and a younger boy.

Plus another baby on the way.

The families include an uptight wealthy couple, a lesbian couple, and a single mother.

The diverse families are not wild about the children's' bio-dad becoming involved in raising the kids, but they find he can be helpful at times.

I was sorry to hear that this very funny show was canceled after only two seasons.

Crap
jswansburg19817 September 2013
Seed is the latest in a long line of crappy new Canadian TV comedy series. It is about a guy who ends up getting put in touch with or contacted by kids who he fathered without ever knowing them or their mothers, by being a sperm donor. It's on OK premise but nothing about this show works. The cast is the main problem, almost every cast member is terrible. The lead is unbelievable, unfunny, not even likable. Unlikeable can be really funny for a TV show character but in this case the guy is just so not funny it's infuriating. He can't deliver a joke right to save his life. Not that he has a lot to work with because the writing is also not there. The show just looks cheap and bad and the jokes are terrible and don't work. I don't know how a show like this gets made, how many people looked at this garbage and said "yes" in order for it to go through all the steps of production and actually put on the air? I still have only met 6 people who have even seen this show at all and all of them hated it as much as I do, so how is it still on the air? The IMDb page here even says "not yet released", that is how few people watch or care about this show. And I suspect the lone review here, a glowing rant, is actually written by a cast or crew member or one of their loved ones. This show stinks, stinks, stinks! Crap!

Hopefully Season 2 Gets Better
jennfinestone15 February 2014
I have to admit I am pretty surprised that this show got renewed and on top of that I hear it is going to be on TV in the United States too so that is good and I am very much hoping that that means the show will get better next year.

From what I have heard the show has very bad ratings and I don't know anyone who is watching it. We watched it every week but it hasn't improved yet.

All of the characters are not real and beyond that they are very annoying to me. The premise of the show is good and had promise but it is poorly written, again unreal and with bad jokes. So the show hasn't made good on that promise.

Horrendous
abrahamset20 December 2013
Seed is a horrendous show. I can't believe it has a 6 out of 10 rating on IMDb. So many ratings of a perfect 10. Makes me suspicious that maybe the show or the network have signed up for a million fake accounts just to make it look like people actually watch and like this show. Have you ever met someone who watches and enjoys this show because I haven't. I have only sat through two full episodes and the start of the third, gave it more than enough chance to stop sucking but it is just a terribly and not funny show. Canadian TV comedies just keep getting worse. Dan for Mayor and Hiccups were awful, Satisfaction and Package Deal are awful, Seed is awful. Maybe we just should stop trying to make comedy TV shows because the networks in Canada obviously can't hack it.

Bad Show
cindyapples31 March 2015
This is a bad show.

This show is so bad that I had to write a review and say how bad that it is.

I have to write this review saying how bad it is even though the show is already cancelled.

I'm writing this review just to warn people in case this show ever is aired in reruns and they come here to look and see if this show is worth seeing.... it is not worth seeing. It is a very, very bad show that you should avoid.

The acting is crap and the writing is also crap. This entire show is crap.

This is a very bad show. Is that ten lines yet? I have to write ten lines but really all I need to say is that this show is crap, that's my entire review. There it is ten lines.

Lineup of Death
doncoward5 August 2018
I remember when this show was on at the same time as Package Deal, two awful and unfunny Canadian sitcoms at the same time. I watched a lot of American TV on those nights because try all I could I could rarely make it through an entire episode of either of those shows. When I did it was in disbelief shows this bad could actually get written and approved and shot and edited and go through all those levels of TV production without anyone hitting the brakes and saying hold on a second these shows actually suck and aren't funny... also it made me angry to know my tax dollars keep paying for junk shows like these when I never ever actually get any enjoyment out of them at all. It is a sad state of affairs in Canadian television when this keeps happening. Anyway the writing and acting were ludicrously terrible in both of these shows and I'm glad to see them gone.

Failure

Terrible comedy, terrible acting, nothing much I liked about this show at all to be honest. At least it actually looked professionally produced unlike a lot of other shows on City.

Love this show!!
finallyinspired26 October 2015
I love this show. The writing is very clever and funny and the actors are all exceptional in my opinion.

Yes sometimes the situations are predictable, but the humor is spot on.

The relationships are believable and remind me of people I know.

I hope it hasn't been discontinued like all of the other good shows!

In fact, it's difficult to choose a favorite character.

Will there be more?

Please say so :)

This ten line thing is ridiculous, and you spell check too? Okay then. One more line then I can go.

Cute ... but....
tryingcake24 January 2020
Why are the parents treating him as though he found the kids and infiltrated their lives? That's not what happened at all. This and this alone makes me not like the show.
