Bringing back the comedy!
Shane318228 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
We've had strange deaths in Supernatural before, but none quite like this! People around the town are being killed Looney Toon style. Sam and Dean take the case, and strangely enough, so does Cas. Claiming he wants to become a hunter, Castiel joins the Winchester brothers to hunt down this cartoon mimicking monster!

This episode was certainly different from ones we've had this season, this one did have quite a few comical scenes, most of them involving Cas since he tends to have an obvious lack of 'people skills' or 'human skills' in general. I think it was a great episode to relieve some of the stress that has been building up this season, especially between Dean and Sam. This whole season we have seen them bickering and arguing; it was nice to have a fairly fun and happy episode where the brothers work together on a case and not have to bring up past conflicts.

One of my biggest questions this entire season has been related to Sam's time while Dean was away, we know he met a girl and things were serious between them, but there are still a few mysteries about their relationship that have not been revealed. I personally was not enjoying the previous flashbacks involving Sam and Amelia, since I felt as though they were just included as a way to fill up space and not help the story progress whatsoever. Surprisingly, this episodes flashbacks did hold my interest for whatever reason, and there was an interesting twist revealed at the very end that I didn't see coming. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm interested in seeing how that played out.

Great episode. Very entertaining! I thought it was funny and interesting and thankfully wasn't overloaded with unnecessary drama. I, for one, am hoping we get more episodes like this in the future.

One of the best

This is simply one of the best episodes I've ever seen from ANY TV SHOW! W O W!!!!! Supernatural overall for me has taken a small fall the latest seasons. But this episode is simply amazing. You don't even have to be a Supernatural fan to watch this episode. Pure brilliance! The episode doesn't contribute much if there is a deeper plot at play, but the episode itself is insane. I can't wait to watch the next one and if they keep bringing insane episodes like this. This show will become even more of a favorite for me! I'm so glad I stayed up to watch it. The episode contains humor, fun, mystery and a nice twist to the Supernatural universe. One of the reasons why I love Supernatural as a show generally is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. They find room for these lights of genius and it really makes the show grow!

Thanks, Tronni

Cartoon heroes

"Hunteri Heroici" is one of the funniest (and best) episodes of "Supernatural" ever. From the very beginning, when Castiel decides to become a hunter, to the case-of-the-week (deaths and mysterious happenings that seem to replicate situations in cartoons) the episode is a non-stop gag reel. The pace is high, the dialogue sharp, and the trio of Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins do an amazing job delivering the lines (and raising eyebrows). That we fans get episodes like this one, where "Supernatural" doesn't takes itself too seriously, is just one of the high points of this amazing series.

The only negative thing about the episode are the constant flashbacks of Sam and Amelia, cheesy as their come (too corny). Otherwise, perfect.

Reminds me of the Tiwlight Zone movie!
mm-395 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Hunteri Heroici reminds me of the old Twilight Zone movie (1983). The Twilight Zone movie had a segment where a boy's imagination became reality! Hunteri Heroici has the right mix of comedy and action for an entertaining episode. I will not ruin the episode, but there is cartoon humor, which matches Dean's wits to the limit. Hunteri Heroici episode is so far out and original which makes for a great episode. I did not know what was going to happen next! The best episode so far for season 8. I give Hunteri Heroici an eight out of ten. I love that the writers are experimenting with new fresh ideas. The guy that played Honeycut in the MASH series was involved in this episode.

Not quite the classic episode because of the flashbacks
CubsandCulture31 August 2020
The present day story of this episode is as delightful as several of the other meta, parody episodes. The madcap cartoon comedy can easily hold its own against say Changing Channels or Monster Movie. The gags all land and the effects work is some of the best in the show's run. I think even the ad hoc plotting-an old family friend we never mentioned before!-is handled smooth enough to work.

Unfortunately there's a ton of very serious flashbacks to Amelia-Sam that don't fit tonally. The material in itself is good and gives the Amelia storyline some heft. But they should have put them in a different episode or wrote them lighter. As it is now about 10 minutes of the episode feel like an *entirely* different TV show.
