Great series
blackmamba9997110 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
From a long time ago in early china's dynasty's there was a king who's troubled past ignited his passion to unite his country in times of war. Xin, who is as brash as he is fearless uses his skills on the battle field to rip up his enemies a new hole in history... literally.

Before he became one of the greatest generals of the Qin dynasty he and his able brother used to fight mock battles to see who could endure the longest through a sword fight using of course wooden swords. Both were matched perfectly, until a fateful night Xin's brother was killed by an assassin in the night which then thrust him to fight battles not his own.

Paired with Diao who became the first woman strategist in the Qin empire led Xin and his rag tag of aloof warriors across the plains to destroy, and conquer the state of Wei making Xin the youngest thousand man general in china's lineage of soldiers faithful to the empire.

Though now, in the second season he also learns of new ways with his cohort Diao that many of their battles hold a string of wins, along with defeats. Each comes to grips with themselves as they trod along the desert floor looking for remote platoons which cause trouble for the Qin empire.

In my view, this is one of the finest examples of what china went through before the stringent governments took hold of all of the lands as their own leaving behind the greats to gather dust once their duty was done. Not all Qin soldiers died peacefully, most times it was all out internal affairs turned ugly, and most of those who survived the constant turmoil, often took to be-headings first rather than public shame.

Needless to say it gives us a wonderful view of what each soldier went through day to day through bloody battles, constant struggles with never ending scrimmages that put lives on the line plus the celebrations to those who endured each and every fight. Not all battles won were by the strategists, but by the common man wielding a sword, and his heart in the palm of his hand.

For those who like yesteryear stories this is it. Full of action, laughs, sword play, and strategy. Highly recommended to those who study ancient anthropology. Although made into an anime, it does hold a lot of accurate accounts of each battle past.

First few episodes feels shaky due to animation but you get used to it. Impressive story, great characters design, excellent plot and most important thing is you won't feel tired or clumsy or lazy during watching this anime.

Gotta watch this one!!!
gutweiler2252 September 2021
I would give it a 10star if it wasn't for the animation. It took me a few episodes to get used to it but now I hardly notice. The story, on the other hand, is amazing. It really surprises me the show isn't more popular. I recommend to anyone looking for a new show.

This show need more attetion
WarFirel18 May 2022
It is really underrated, I know, the first season is awful because of the 3D/CGI animation, but the storytelling, characters, plot, wordbuilding and every else is simpli magnificent, watch the show, it worth the time. By the way, this show talk about the real history in China, the battles, the characters and the places existed 2000 years ago.

HISTORY IN AN ENTERTAINING EPIC PACKAGE
Qinsella10 July 2023
Kingdom anime is just one of the media with which the story is presented. The manga is ongoing, 762 chapters and counting. The live action film is on its third installment but available only in Japanese theaters. It's a franchise that will not likely reach Kimetsu No Yaiba or Attack on Titan levels internationally with the stark absence of English translations, but for a huge fan like me, it is worth crossing the language barrier for.

Chinese war drama in the hands of mangaka Yasuhisa Hara. This is what it is. Many of Hara's characters jump straight out of history, and they transform into larger-than-life generals, kings, vassals, and scholars, warriors, courtiers, in often flamboyant costumes and hairpieces. The two main leads, orphan warrior Shin and 31st King of Qin Ei Sei, carry the heart of the series (these two are the least flamboyantly dressed tough), and through their stories, together or apart, they share the goal of unifying the warring states and ending war for good.

There is some criticism about the inconsistency and cartoonish aspects of the anime, but that can be overlooked as the story unfolds. Overall, Kingdom is epic storytelling, and I can see many more chapters, seasons, and movie sequels on the horizon.

Amazing; CGI gets better and hardly used at all in later seasons.
sspureurubin13 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One put me off from this anime at first was the CGI. It looked so awkward and bad. Yet, I continued, because the story hooked me so far. I thank my past self that I made that choice if not, then I wouldnt have had the pleasure of experiencing Kingdom's excellent storytelling, combat tactics and story.

The characters are relatable even if they were set in ancient China, the battle episodes are thrilling and exciting. It's just so good. Just wait till you watch the Coalitions Arc and the Siege of Sai Arc and I am sure you would rank this anime on your Top 10 at that point.

TLDR: CGI gets better, story gets better and better. Watch it right now!

Not bad
kleverferg4 October 2022
Stumbled across this one, and I'm kinda glad I did, the first 3 episodes the animation was kinda wonky 🤔 like a low-budget CGI or something, but after that it cleans up really well because they ditched the cheap CGI

The story, although fictional itself, is based off an actual time period and a way of life, and some characters are based off real people

Give it a shot you'll probably like it, I tend to throw it on when I'm eating a quick meal, or just about a hour before I turn in for the night

At least watch the first 10 episodes to get a feel for it, upon writing this review that's where I am.

Bought into the hype...was a mistake
adamnelson-3081217 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I got introduced to this series from the live action movies on netflix. Not the best but not bad movies, entertaining and interesting and piqued my curiosity about the anime.

So after looking into it a bit I saw all the hype surrounding the anime and unfortunately I totally bought into that hype and started watching it...and this is probably the most disappointed and confused I've been in a while.

I truly tried to like it, I really did and lasted around 15 to 20 episodes and just could not do it anymore. First and foremost yes the animation is awful. Really, really bad. Why they chose to go to the route they did with the bad, weird CGI is completely beyond me. I didn't care for the character design either...but the best part is the main protagonist...a 13 year old whiney, loud kid with no real formal training, wearing nothing but a raggedy robe & straw flip-flops (no joke, literal flip-flops), maybe 5 ft, is somehow this completely unstoppable and overpowered force of nature that full-grown armored, armed, fully trained, veteran soldiers (heck even entire armies) are unable to take down...

Sorry but I just couldn't do it anymore & yes I've read & heard time & time again "give it a chance, it gets better" but I'm sorry I don't have the time or patience to sit through 38 dang episodes for a series to finally get better. On to better anime's now.

best anime to watch in 2022
dneem11 September 2022
The best continuous anime that you can see in your life, the first season you have to get used to CGI, and the second season will improve the drawing and become better, especially with the fourth season, the drawing in it is similar to the drawing of Wit Studio, frankly, the anime is oppressed and needs more attention than that, and readers of the manga say that the fifth season will be the strongest season and frankly I I am excited about him, especially with the new and bloody drawing that is coming from the studio itself. Awesome work and great music. I hope the work continues and doesn't stop.

This is very interesting and entertaining anime of war. This is the best anime I watched. I really liked kings little brother but killed him off that was very sad. Initially little brothers role was very nice. But if they didnt have killed and supported hand to hand with kind against lu bu wai's politicall power that would have been the sight to see.

Amazing anime
wwwq-151974 February 2023
The Kingdom anime is the best war anime I have ever seen. Its story tells of a young man named Shin and Hyo, two brothers who aspire to become generals.

The story is fabulous and wonderful in all respects, from the amazing strategies carried out by the generals, as well as the internal conflicts that exist in the Kingdom of Qin, and the change in events and others.

What I didn't like about Kingdom is the drawing of the first season, but regardless of the drawing of the first season, the anime is great.

I recommend that you watch it, as it is fun and even the manga is better than the anime itself.

Long but still interesting war anime
joelherro27 February 2013
At 38 episodes, this one takes a while to get going...and there is season 2 planned (don't know how many episodes this time), but if you can handle this many, then you must be into it and more will just be welcome...

The story starts with 2 young orphans, Xin and Piao (pronounced 'Hou'), who live in China in the state of Qin during the warring states period and who fight each other every day with practice swords and dream of becoming great generals...one day a nobleman sees something in one of these orphans and decides to offer him a brighter future...the 2 orphans go their separate ways and adventures await them...

I could go into a lot more depth here, as this is a long and detailed story, but I'll leave it at that...the animation is good, the characters are well developed and the action is balanced with an interesting story. As for how accurate it is, I'm not super knowledgeable about feudal Chinese history, so I can't say either way, but it makes for fun to watch! Just be prepared to sacrifice a lot of time on this one...

Not the one of the greatest in the world lol
jgrabos21 August 2022
The cgi is absolutely horrid like clunky Playstation 1 bad and for the love of God don't try to watch the English version it's all monotone pause mid sentence and it just sounds like people reading out loud without any real emotion absolute worst voice acting ever.

As for people claiming it's one of the greatest animes of all time..not a chance there's a extremely strong dislike for this show.

But The show is likeable but I could miss parts and not care at all it's not like I'm glued to the screen waiting to see what happens next it's just alright like something I might watch if I'm bored and have nothing else to watch or something to put on when I'm ready to fall asleep but want something on in the background.

Great show for history lovers
notahero-2940624 September 2022
I would definitely recommend this show to everyone interested in China's Warring States period, as well as anyone who loves history (which would be me). Both manga and the show are very good, the manga author has done a great deal of research in history, and that historic research and detail is shown in anime as well.

With all it's historic seriousness, the main hero's clumsiness was like a comical relief to me and I kept laughing at his antics.

Just like the other reviewers mentioned, the animation itself needs a lot of improvement in the beginning: some reviewers mention mistakes in season 1 only, I noticed some very glaring animation errors in season 2. But I am willing to forgive the poor early animation, since the storyline and voice acting are excellent.

One reviewer was complaining about bad English dubbing.

I watch anime in sub only and the VA's are excellent, my favorites are Masakazu Morita and Hosoya Yoshimasa in this show.

Please give this show a try: you won't be disappointed. While you are at it, read the manga as well!
