So much potential, but so little told throughout the course of the movie...

"Far Away, So Close" (aka "Tooku de zutto soba ni iru") is something of an odd movie. Now, I happened to stumble upon this, as I do enjoy Asian cinema quite a lot. And since I hadn't seen this movie before, much less even heard about it, when I was given the chance to sit down and watch it, needless to say that I jumped at said chance.

The storyline in this 2013 movie from writer Kyôko Inukai and director Masahiko Nagasawa definitely had some interesting enough moments, but the movie just felt prolonged, unnecessarily so. And I suppose that was because nothing much really happened throughout the course of the movie. It was a shame, because it dragged down the overall enjoyment of the movie, where the concept idea had so much potential.

I managed to watch the entire movie, but I can't really claim that I was impressed, nor were I overly entertained. Sure, the movie was watchable, but this is hardly a movie that I will watch again, nor one I would recommend to people to actually sit down and watch.

The acting performances in the movie were quite good, I will say that much. And the lead actress Kana Kurashina actually held her own quite well and carried the movie nicely with her performance.

All in all then "Far Away, So Close" is a movie that had a lot to offer and tell, but managed to do little of both. As such, I am rating the movie a very mediocre five out of ten stars.
