Lena Dunham originally planned to film the episode's brutal centerpiece argument between Hannah and Marnie by dividing the scenes into two halves of shooting: one set where the two characters were trying to resolve the fight and being less angry towards each other, and another where they had lost their tempers and were yelling and screaming at each other. However, Dunham then changed her mind and shot the scene chronologically because it better captured how dysfunctional and furious Hannah and Marnie's interactions had become.
