In stand-up comedy, silence typically equals death. You tell a joke and the audience laughs? Great. You tell a joke and they groan? Well, at least they were interested enough to respond. Tell a joke and … nothing? You may have lost the room altogether.

The afternoon before Ramadan starts, Ramy Youssef is sitting in a restaurant in downtown Manhattan, dressed in sweats and a black Nike snapback hat. He’s loading up on food: a hearty stack of lemon curd pancakes, a side of turkey sausage, ketchup he liberally seasons with pepper. The 28-year-old has just finished performing downstairs at the Comedy Cellar, where he started out in typical slacker-bro comedian style, bemoaning the fact that he doesn’t have a girlfriend with whom he can grab fro-yo. Then he segued into a bit about watching Surviving R.

After years of standing on-stage as a comic and appearing on-screen in such scripted series as “See Dad Run” and “Mr. Robot,” Ramy Youssef has combined both sides of his artistry for a self-titled streaming comedy.
Youssef created, stars in and also directed an episode of “Ramy,” centered on life as a Muslim man trying to navigate his faith, family, friends and dating. Although episodes of the series will switch perspective later in the season to allow insight into key players in his character’s life, such as his mother and sister, the majority of the show comes from Youssef’s point of view.
“It makes me nervous, but I think it should,” he says of coming from such a personal place. “I think if you feel comfortable with what you’re putting out there fully there’s probably a problem. I think there should be a level of, ‘I...

Exclusive: Nickelodeon‘s Svp of live-action development Brian Wright has left the network effective today. “Brian Wright has decided to leave Nickelodeon after 7 years,” a rep for the network confirmed to Deadline. See Dad Run revolves around a TV sitcom star (Scott Baio) who stays home to take care of his young children while his soap opera acrtress wife (Alanna Ubach) returns to work. Exclusive: It is the end of the road for Nick at Nite‘s first original scripted comedy series See Dad Run, starring Scott Baio. I have learned that Season 3 of the family sitcom, which is currently filming, will be its last, with production on the series wrapping in May for good. There are five episodes left from See Dad Run‘s 20-episode second season, with the 13-episode Season 3 expected to air later this year — culminating with an hourlong series finale, which has been ordered in addition to the 13 regular episodes. See Dad Run‘s cancellation after 3 seasons and the exit of Nick at Nite’s second original sitcom, Wendell & Vinnie, after one leaves Instant Mom as the network’s only remaining original comedy series. Created by Tina Albanese and Patrick Labyorteaux, See Dad Run centers on actor David Hobbs (Baio) who, after a decade on television, becomes a stay-at-home dad...

Scott Baio has been enjoying his return to television on the original Nick@Nite series "See Dad Run." In it, he plays David Hobbs, a television star, who steps away from the spotlight to be a stay-at-home dad.
