old-timers in cheap B-movie
SnoopyStyle9 October 2016
Five young soldiers, Matt Stasny, Barry Dempsey, Elliott Ackers, Vic Skinner, and Shane Jones, have been captured by Afghan warlord Abdul Al-Raazaq. Their military grandparents Mick Skinner (Bo Svenson), Jean Dempsey (Margot Kidder), Lou Jones (Louis Gossett Jr.), Dominic Ackers (Seymour Cassel), and Paul Stansy (Cedric Smith) decide to go and find their missing grandsons.

This has plenty of good acting talent in these old-timers. These are actors who still have gas in the tank. It's too bad that they are reduced to making these cheap B-movies. It tries to be serious but it can't be serious. The other minor actors are pretty bad. The locations are unconvincing. It is good to see some of these old geezers but it is sad to see the sandbox they're given to play in.

Oh dear

I sat through this but I wouldn't recommend it. It doesn't know what it is. It tries too hard to be serious and tries too hard to be funny. It achieves neither unfortunately.

Another Hollywood Scam
kmichaelpm5 June 2014
I am absolutely stunned, that anyone would have the conceit to market this rubbish. It would appear that Hollywood have decided that it is easier to make money running scams than actually producing quality products. I watched this so called movie because of the cast. Sadly it seems all the former great actors (actresses) have decided to forgo their reputations for a quick buck. They obviously care nothing for their fans or for the public at large. There is absolutely nothing positive to be said about this farce. Save yourself the pain and simply send your hard earned money to the producer. At least that way you may lose your money, but will not put yourself through the pain and insult of wasting your time watching the worst rubbish possible. If you feel the urge to watch this, I suggest you play with fire-ants until the urge wears off. It would be more entertaining.

Baaaaaaaaaaaad-uh!!!

Beyond idiotic, this "movie" is the biggest piece of tripe ever. I cannot believe anyone even partially connected to it would allow their names to be printed, ANYWHERE. This was so bad, I was laughing at the start, became insulted by the mid-point and gave up 42 minutes in. If anyone got paid anything for this, they should man up and return the money or donate it to a charity. Well, they say they need 10 lines soo..... Quite possibly the worst "serious" movie ever made
Curt12224 February 2015
Besides terrible acting and writing, the mistakes in this movie would takes weeks to list, so I'll try to generalize. Uniform mistakes are clearly the result of not having a competent military adviser and a serious lack of funding. There is not one location in the alleged Afghanistan that looks remotely like anything in Afghanistan. The MEDEVAC helicopters shown after the first ambush are Marine, but the pilots are Army, and the interiors of the helicopters are not the model shown flying. Civilian doctors (and others) in Afghanistan are issued very specific identification cards, so the Company Commander (who is much, much too old to be a Captain) could have easily verified their identity. Despite alleged former military experience, none of the Grandparents correctly handles a weapon. During the first ambush in the quarry,(and several other times) the U.S. Soldier on the truck is using an enemy weapon mounted on a model of truck that was never used in Afghanistan. All explosions are clearly propane and gas explosions with no attempt to replicate actual explosions. There are violations of military protocol and tactics that are too numerous to list. The bottom line is that this movie was a waste of money to make, and should be an embarrassment for anybody associated with this dreck. IMDb should allow a "0" rating for garbage like this.

Head scratchingly fubar
shalimar-426 October 2017
This pile of complete crap is a head scratcher.. not only due to how patheticly bad it is.. but how you can't even tell if they are tying to make fun of themselves or not at the same time.. in either case if they were trying to be serious it's a disaster.. if they are trying to make fun of themselves and then genre it's a disaster.. it's simply a disaster regardless.

The fact it's made in Canada is very often a good thing.. but this is NOT one of those cases.. certain parts are obvious low end ignorant use of various firearms like the prevalence of SKS's when some in parts obviously filmed at different times/locations have AK-47's. (The former of which is non-restricted and the latter is prohibited and would require properly issued special movie permits to even have fakes for filming).

Then there is the "Russian guns.. always jamming" line.. which is quite the opposite as a rule vs reality.. and therefore I can only conclude that whomever came up with that line must have consulted the politicians here or better yet the rcmp idiots in charge of the "Canadian firearms act" whom are so deeply beyond stupid it's putting them up there with typical journalists idea of ID'ing a firearm. ie: goo.gl/cqEqim Then add in the "action star" quality of LGJ and it's another guaranteed disaster.. he starred in garbage like "Iron Eagle" for example.. where the quality was so pathetic they couldn't even get the names of various aircraft right and an untold # of other absolutely pathetic mistakes and bad writing..

Good Family Action Movie
What would you do for someone you love? Some would go to war, and in this movie, these "geezers" did.

Sure, there were many detail errors, including not filming anywhere in North America that actually looks like A-Stan. Part of watching a picture is the suspension of disbelief so as to be entertained and to "get" the moral of the production. Persons who rate this film in the dumps, seems to completely forget that very important fact. Makes me wonder if they think Star Wars or Star Trek films are real history just because they are well done.

The film's message is what is important. Can you suffer hardship and loss and still stand up to do something about it, even put your own life on the line for what you believe in or love if you do not have to?

I appreciate the message of this film and the efforts of these thespians, who are not "spring chickens" any more, in conveying it to us, the audience.

Don't expect Black Hawk Down
samhill0864219 April 2019
Don't go into this movie with high expectations and you won't be so disappointed. If you're in the military and looking for accuracy from a movie like this, then you deserve the angina you get. Just watch it for what it is, a mildly entertaining action flick. The only confusing part is the marketing strategy, from the poster and tagline, one would think it's a slapstick comedy, but watching the movie, it's more of a serious rescue flick with some lighthearted moments.
