American Horror Story Episodes 1 and 2
tbmforclasstsar26 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
With a fresh start in a brand new setting, American Horror Story:Asylum has succeeded in keeping us on our toes. After a year with the Harmons in their charmingly haunted home, we've moved on to Briarcliff, a secret-filled asylum in the 60s tucked deep in a forest apparently filled with mysterious flesh eating monsters. But there's more to Briarcliff than meets the eye, and it isn't just the things that go bump in the night.

To recap these last two episodes would, I think, be a great disservice to you who is reading this. If you've watched the episodes, let's not waste any time and just get into the thick of it. If you haven't, go check them out, and if they're not your cup of tea, then you probably don't want to read this anyway. Either way, here come da spoilers.

I, for one, am already liking this season (or should I say mini-series) better than last year's, and for more than a few reasons. Though the constant "WTF!?" moments of the first season were extremely fun to experience with friends, they always felt a little ridiculous to the point of campiness. All the sex and on-the-nose scares and jump cuts just felt like a parody of the genre. A fun and sometimes very well-crafted parody, but still a parody. Even the name of the show suggested some sort of self-aware cliché quality one should just expect from the show. And during the opening minutes of this year's premiere, I had a feeling we were in for more of that, and maybe even more exclusively.

The present day storyline of two horny honeymooners exploring the abandoned Briarcliff reached the level of ridiculous in a matter of seconds. The dialogue, the characters, and the explanation of why these two people are walking around this cobwebbed asylum just felt…awful. Not even fun. Just cringe-worthy. So what if Adam Levine gets his arm torn off? We don't even know or care who he is yet. Needless to say, I was worried.

But then imagine my surprise when instead of being bombarded with non-stop, balls-out scares, the show decided to take it's time and allow characters to build and reveal themselves to us. I think this was necessary for the show to help us forget who these actors were in the first season, and accept them as their vastly different characters in this one. We'll get more into characters in a minute, but first I think it's worth mentioning the shift in styles between this and the first season. While the first season had plenty of scenes which took place in the shadows, for a majority of the season, most of the action occurred in a brightly lit home or during the daytime. The juxtaposition of sinister acts in broad daylight added to the creepiness. This season, the bright windows and warm mahogany walls of the Harmon house are long gone, replaced by cold gray stone and rusted cell bars of Briarcliff. While the Harmons hoped their LA home would be a fresh start, no one has ever come to Briarcliff with any hope, except for perhaps, their hopes to escape its dingy corridors.

With a setting as grim and dreary as Briarcliff, it's necessary to have characters that match. And this is where the show has improved since last season. The residents of Briarcliff are pitiful, complicated, tragic figures, all motivated by their own specific reasons. In other words, well-rounded, three-dimensional characters. But what struck me most about this group is that they're all mortal. Last season, with all the ghosts inhabiting the Harmon house, even when a character died, they weren't really dead (well, accept for Addy. RIP.). The stakes actually dropped a bit when you realized that being dead meant nothing to the overall story. This season, there is a sense that when someone dies, they're going to stay dead. Maybe I'm wrong. Only time will tell what the writers decide to do with the deceased.

Jed turns into a monster: different voices, aggresive intentions. Jed died of an heart attack, Mary fainted. Kit gets 40 spanks on his ass from Jude. Nice episode of American Horror Story Season 2, creepy episode. Jed died after he turned into a kind of monster, freaky shizzle!

Horror supermarket: delicious!

Warning: Spoilers
What a pleasure! What a pleasure to watch a show with a plot which is so much fun! Scenarists must have been giggling like little girls as they wrote it. Imagine that: Little Riding Hood becomes Snowhite, Shock Corridor meets The Exorcist. And Doctor Moreau hires a hooker. Add just a nuance of Halloween, Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre and you have the best horrific show you can imagine. So good, in fact, that horror movies may have to find new ways to scare people in the future. AHS is the sum of it all. A no brainer punch in the belly. A real treat. This second episode of season two owes a 10. At the very least. For a little hour, you will laugh, you will frown, you will simply be perfectly entertained. What can you ask for more? This episode is a classic. Don't miss it; American TV has rarely been so good and daring. How do you spell "masterpiece"?

Very good episode!

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, this miniseries has an excellent cast - two-time Oscar winner Jessica Lange (also won Emmy for playing Constance Langdon), incredibly hot Evan Peters, bizarre Chloe Sevigny, vicious James Cromwell, somewhat kind Lizzie Brochere, and righteous doctor Zachary Quinto, potential love interest Joseph Fiennes, a little jerky Sarah Paulson, and innocent nun Lily Rabe. These actors all play well, and even though I usually don't like the idea of having the same actors play different roles, it is virtually working this time. Even though it can only be me, I am one of the people who are actually enjoying Season 2 a little bit more than Season 1. I thought Season 1 was awesome, and a runner-up for Emmy Awards, but this time, I even like the idea of setting a show in the insane asylum more. I like the story, fast-paced but still well-acted scenes, and wonderfully crafted factors of this series. I especially enjoyed the exorcism scene here. Sister Jude is revealed to have been a woman (much like a whore) in the past and she screams, slaps the boy harshly on the bed - it was my favorite part. Jessica Lange always astonishes me and she is still maintaining her pace. I am expecting more from the third episode. But i will not want to see any kind of crappy sex scenes. I think this show will get better and better till the very climax which is surely expected to amaze every viewer.

Wow, another great episode
MomentIMDB8 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The episode is very solid and even better than the premiere, which was great. In itself there is no general plot, but it continues to develop the characters and the plot of the asylum, presenting Dr. trendson and sister mary being possessed by the devil. The wool lover is caught by bloody face. In terms of direction, soundtrack, aesthetics, script is excellent as above and leaves nothing to be desired. The character of Arthur or the Nazi doctor is great and I love his part. The exorcism part is very good and I got to know more about sister jude's past. The wool part is very good and its development is interesting. I hope he becomes friends with kit. Great episode and I hope very much for the next one.

The asylum puts everyone to bed early so they can do the exorcism. Sister Jude for being a women is told to leave. Arthur calls in a women and has to dinner with him before they do the deed. As the woman try's to dance for him he does not want any of it. Asthey try to do the exorcism the father is flown across the room and Sister Jude is made to watch him. Sister Jude is locked in the room with Jed, we then get a flashback to Sister Jude singing in her past life where she seemed alone and unwanted. We also see her hit someone with her car and when he confronts her she starts to beat him. During the middle of the night everyone's doors are opened and it gets super creepy. When Kit try's to get away Lana calls the guards in on him who beat him with sticks. The spirit leaves Jed (who is dead now) but goes into the sister which knocks her out. While back at his house the whore looks in Arthur's personal things and he forces her to perform acts like the women in the photos. Sister Jude is the one to tell the parents of the child. Sisster Jude gives the reward of watching Kit and Grace be punished on the behind. Kit takes the blame and gets 40 lashes. This episode was not as crazy and the whole exorcism plot was not my favourite and I did not like watching it so much.

EPISODE GRADE: B- (MVP: Jessica Lange)

S2.E2 - The Exorcism [8.6/10]
panagiotis199312 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S2. E2) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 2 Episode 2 ''Tricks and Treats''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 8/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. The way they tortured Lana was so brutal and disturbing. Is Kit really telling the truth? Aliens took his wife? Sister Mary seems so innocent. The exorcism didn't work for this poor guy, he is dead. The exorcism scenes were pretty intense, I liked it. Dr. Arthur is the real psychopath of this season, he is absolutely disgusting, a creep and a perv. Is sister Mary now possessed? Overall this episode was good, my rating is 8.6/10.
