Haunted fridge? Nah, I'll skip lunch, thanks...
Leofwine_draca6 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
PRIDYIDER, aka FRIDGE, is another Filipino-made horror flick which comes across as very silly and very cheap for any international viewers attempting to watch. No doubt local audiences felt the same way upon seeing it. An innocent young woman moves into the usual creepy, poorly-lit old house, only to discover that she's come into possession of no less than a haunted fridge! The cheesy '90s B-movie THE REFRIGERATOR was more fun than this, because amid all of the small talk and dragged-out atmosphere building (which has little effect), the viewer is treated to some lamentable scare scenes in which people are victimised by living body parts from the fridge. The CGI is quite awful here and, other than an over-the-top ending, it doesn't add up to much. The indifferent performance from the main actress doesn't help much either.

The fridge holds a bloody secret...

A haunted fridge? Hmmmm, alright, well that is a new idea, I will say that much.

For a horror movie, then "Pridyider" was anything but scary. That being said, then the movie isn't a total waste. The story was nicely executed, although the storyline was rather well out there. I mean, a haunted fridge, come on...

The storyline, shortly summarized, is about Tina who returns back to the Philippines from the US, where she has to live alone in her family's house - a house that holds a macabre and dark secret. A single piece at a time, Tina starts to learn about the dreadful secret that ties her estranged mother and father to the house. And the air is thick with tension as the house turns out to be haunted by its past...

The acting in the movie was actually alright, although personally I had someone of a struggle to cope with the constant switching between Tagalog and English language in the movie. It adds a frustrating and confusing element to the overall enjoyment of the movie - but they do talk that way in the Philippines, so...

Effects-wise, then "Pridyider" was actually also quite alright. Don't expect major blockbuster Hollywood CGI effects, of course. But the effects incorporated in the movie worked out nicely to help the story along. And there were some pretty good scenes with the gore and dismembered body parts in the fridge - I enjoyed that, and it was a notch up in the enjoyment of the movie.

As mentioned above, then "Pridyider" is devoid of scares and a proper horror atmosphere. However, having only seen two other Philippine horror movies, then I don't have much background to base a judgment on how scary it is to the natives there, but for me, as a seasoned horror aficionado in Europe, then "Pridyider" was very 'child-friendly'. So don't expect to be scared out of your seat here.

And the title of the movie, "Pridyider", is short, simple and to the point, translated as "Refrigerator".

What is the Man-Eating Fridge?
ronniedresserflores17 December 2023
Man-Eating Fridge is an extremely dangerous entity that only lives inside the old house. It is a fridge-like entity, white in color, and a large symbol on the front of the fridge door that resembles "Y" letter but slightly dirty. In addition to some dismembered body parts inside the fridge that are probably from innocent people who died by it. In docile state, the fridge is filled with foods but no tentacles and body parts, which does not pose harmful threat to anyone until it's in aggressive state. In aggressive state, the fridge will automatically open and uses its tentacles to grab and eat anyone who stays in the kitchen longer. Its tentacles are quite hard to cut. It also spawns a spider-like, severed hand, with a terrifying mouth. Inside the fridge's dimension, it appears to be an underground tunnel, the most dangerous area, with dead bodies all over the wall. However, the only entity here is the ??? (I forgot) which lives inside the underground tunnel.
