Its like watching a color film during the black and white times.
s-vinaykumar12345610 January 2014
Its the same excitement that bring to every tollywood movie guy when they have watched a film in full 'Color' during the times of 'black and white' cinematography.

Usually most of the 'Tollywood' films has typically a nice formulae. Start with a fight, a song, chase the villains, two more fights, 10 jokes, fight in climax and END. But This film is completely different. A film that could set standards to the upcoming ones. A completely different road that has been put up this film. And this might be the one of the best films in Tollywood that makes you to be in the script till the end.

This not like other movies which defines the laws of the physics. And every other director who are using the usual formulae should see this and try to change the way how it has been taken up by Mr Sukumar.

Its awesome. Its a huge leap for tollywood. Excellent cinematography, excellent script (thou it has loosened a bit in the middle) excellent direction, Most stunning background music and good crew. I must also appreciate the Background Music. Mr Devi Sri Prasad has really done an excellent experiment with tuning the same music tone and using it for the different versions. So, when you come out of the theatre, you can still hear the same music. This is awesome.

And to understand it you must put your complete concentration on the movie. If some body tells you that this is crap them it means that they haven't seen movies like Dark Knight/Inception/Breaking Bad which give the nostalgia in the end.

Proud to write a review about a movie like this.

Intelligent Psychological Thriller
ravikishore00910 January 2014
Credit for this movie first goes to Director Sukumar for perfect execution of Story which he want to portray. Secondly Mahesh Babu showed his guts in accepting this movie.

For the First Time, A Telugu movie viewer Tasted a Hollywood range movie in Telugu Film Industry. The Film from Tip to Bottom portrays an extraordinary Thriller gripping the audience.

Without any unwanted Comedy sequences, Film mainly concentrates on the Story line. Title 1 Nenokkadine Justifies with only Gowtham's Quest to find his identity.

Though the common audience confuses with Kriti Sanon character in the first half, Director handled that confusion very Handily before Interval.

Screenplay was Extraordinary. Background Music by Devi Sri Prasad gave a new life to the movie, though the songs are misplaced. Cinematography is the main Asset for the movie, it made the film a visual Grandeur.

Mahesh Babu looks Very Handsome in the movie.

Some People may need a second watch to understand the complexity in the script. Hollywood Movie Buffs will like the movie a lot.

Overall A Welcoming Change to Telugu Film Industry.

I Rate 9 out of 10 (HIT)

In TFI,it may be a Revolution and time to get rid of dirty non-sense movies..
veeralevaka10 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
i hope it is the best experimental movies of TFI with a high technical standards and with a critical script.though it was an inspiration from movie Bourne ultimatum,it has its own plot and not a copy.the story is all about a rock star(Mahesh Babu) suffering from a psychological problem who lost there parents in childhood.he believes that, someone killed his parents and they are even trying to kill him too.due to his psychological problem he hallucinates that they are killing him and finally he kills them.but people got to know that he was suffering with some psychological disorder stops believing him.he just want to get out of this,so he get away from media and people.but the heroine,a journalist(Kriti Sanon) follows him to know about him.from then they experience true attacks on them.at the interval bang he got know that the people in his imagination are true and kills one of them.now he starts his journey to crack the hidden secrets in his past.in this journey he come across lot of people who have answers to his questions, but they die without answering.but finally, how he gets his past?should see on screen.

About Performance,as a main lead Mahesh Babu live in his character and justified at best.in first half he is a confused guy.can't get what is real and what is imagination.at the interval bang his performance is at peaks and in second half, the character should show an intense pain about his parents and mystery behind there death,in this part Mahesh performance is mind-blowing.in the climax, when he got to know about his parents, the sentiment expressed by Mahesh is heart touching and no other can do so. Mahesh childhood roll is played by his son Gautam. he did his best.coming to female lead Kriti Sanon, even though its her first movie, she didn't look so.she did to her best and compete with Mahesh. she got chance to show herself by sharing maximum screen space with Mahesh.Nasser played a key roll in the movie need to watch on screen.

About Technical Dept..Seriously,Cinematogry is awesome and DOP Rathnavalu is amazing.in some parts camera work played key role.VFX team and CG team are their best.

Finally about Director B.Sukumar.he need a big applause for making a best experiment in TFI.the story and the twists in screen play was amazing and unexpected.to handle such a script is so tough and executing it on the screen needs lot of guts. the director was success full in it.gave perfect entrance and exits to all the characters in the story and gave reasons to their rolls,so we can't find any unwanted characters and unwanted scenes in the movie.he even made Mahesh to look so stylish he never before.he is perfect in designing Mahesh character without missing his heroism all over the movie.

I concludes that, this is one among the best movies of Tollywood with a new sort of script and screenplay.and everyone should watch it.

Good Attempt....New Story instead of Routine Repeated flicks
sitaram-adithya10 January 2014
The story of the film looks very simple. But the screenplay is highly complex. There are various layers like revenge, a psychological disorder, eagerness to know about roots and corporate greed. There are a few amazing screenplay tricks in the movie. Director Sukumar added 20% more commercial appeal to what needed for a psychological thriller, but stayed with the theme of the film most of the times. The length of the film should have been taken care of and the screenplay should have been crisp and racy. There are certain issues with the film - heroine interaction in Goa episodes appear repetitive and there is no scope for songs in this kind of thriller. Sukumar has followed Hollywood style and orientation by narrating the film in a classy way. We do expect the death of villain as the final frame of a typical Telugu movie. But there is a lot to the story after the villain's death. I loved the way he connected the titles episode of the film to the climax and how parents faces are revealed. There is lot of detailing in the film and some people might need a second viewing to understand the nuances and innuendos in the movie.

a one of a kind movie.
patibanda9210 January 2014
1 nenokkadine is a movie which has been making the headlines since the release of its first and second teasers. the director and other crew members were saying this will be a different movie and mahesh babu himself said that this will be one of his best films .

coming to the movie , it starts with a song which has become quite popular by now in the youth(WHO R U) . the way the hero's condition was explained was not satisfying enough but mahesh carried the first half on his shoulders with some good acting and killer looks . he has become lean and fit , looks quite energetic in the movie. comedy is not very much part of the script but the inline comedy between the scenes was fair enough . the romance parts at the beach and other places was good.

the interval was just superb with the twist included and mahesh was so very good in that scene .

the second half picks up pace from where it left and this is where the audience gets to know the actual story of the film . the action scenes in the second half are breathtaking and every scene is a visual delight.

mahesh babu was excellent in the film with his own style and looks in the movie

kriti sanon - not a popular name till now but her acting skills are very good . A promising actress with nice looks .

all the other casting members made their roles look good enough .

positives -

mahesh babu ( from dressing styles to acting ) the action sequences the screenplay the plot twists music and BGM by devi sri prasad

negatives -

less entertainment factor slow narration not much scope for a heroine in this movie

overall one of the best film of mahesh babu and a different storyline altogether .

a must watch if you are a movie lover and are quite bored of the regular mass masala movies in the Telugu film industry.

hats off to mahesh babu for choosing such a different script .

No one would expect such a film from Sukumar..
spruthvi3510 January 2014
Talking about "1" , It's simply a one man show and the man who dared to make such a film with such a big star of TFI really needs to be applauded.Firstly talking about Mahesh Babu , who as usual , did a really good job in his new kinda character which he never ever essayed before in his career. Gautam Krishna , was cute and made his presence felt. When it come to the story line of the film which is so fragile that Sukumar moulded it into a solid massive 'ONE' with his talent of writing a highly gripping screenplay. Yes , I do admit that the screenplay and story is an inspiration from a 2002 Hollywood blockbuster "The Bourne Identity" , but don't label it to be a copy , no. In the first half , the director did miss a lot of logics and left many lose ends which remain untied , but the pacy and even more gripping second half makes you overlook all those small tweaks and flaws in the screenplay. The length of the second half was a little too long since the director had to incorporate the unwanted commercial elements , simply to attract masses , which should have been taken care about. The best scene of the whole film is the Interval scene. And when it comes to the tech department , the first man to get an applause is the DOP , 'Rathnavelu'. The best visuals were in "Sayonara" and "Your My Love" songs. The fight scenes were taken greatly , the DOP used different colours for different situations. The editor 'Karthika Srinivas' , 'Swamy Ra Ra' fame , did a really good job. Needs to be appreciated. Kriti Sanon was very glamorous and gorgeous and pulled off her character well, Dancing was good and was a nice pick against Mahesh. Overall , this "ONE" does have those so called "Hollywood Standards" and even has an ample dose of family sentiment. Bored of routine family drama or senseless mass flick , grab a ticket for "ONE" which leaves you with a good feeling when you leave the theatre. Really a 150 buck worth flick.

A new trend starts..
jagannathsrs10 January 2014
ONE Movie Review

Probably one of the most over-hyped, anticipated movie of the year 2014, and since it was the first big name in 2014, people expected a lot and the value of disappointment varies from person to person.

Watching the trailer, one would expect it to be another of those typical, stereotyped Telugu movie with a super star(which i thought it would be) but trust me its different, although different doesn't translate into better or good but Sukumar has taken a totally different take- no comedy, no crowd-wowing punch lines, no chemistry, no physics defying stunts, no unnatural romantic songs, no cheesy stuff but a strong, deep, emotional story which a single director failed partially to deliver.

The starting was usual, the kind of entry every tollywood actor would give but then starts the 'different' part of the movie and continued till the interval, it was so different that one would doubt one's own presence at that point of time. The director was unsuccessful in keeping the movie going in an orderly, non-boring fashion until he pulled back the audience with the interval twist.(If he hadn't done that, i would have left the theater)

After the interval he keeps you in the movie, and makes you think, think a lot(which is not usual in 'Telugu' movies). At a point of time, you will come to a conclusion that the movie is over, but he still pulls out some more tricks. And the ending it was perfect, ended at point which will not make you say 'that's it?'

Amazing performance by Mahesh, undoubtedly the best of his career so far.Brilliant cinematography, tollywood has really stepped it up and some really really cool dance moves combined with a twisty tale, its an unusual combination. This wont be a super-hit one, because its not a family-entertainer two, its not a mass entertainer either but, it attracts the people who want something new, something interesting, something 'out-of-the-box' and Sukumar has definitely started the trend.

Huge respect to Sukumar, who has taken the risk of stepping out of the 'stereotype' and creating a new hope for 'better' Telugu movies.

Well, my Rating: hmm.. it would be 8/10 for the new trend.

A change in tollywood
prudviraj10 January 2014
I should say 1 nenokkadine is a kind of experiment in tollywood as we experience them very low especially from a star. The story is simple and the screenplay plays the magic role and it still needs to be tightened. The plot used to narrate it is quite unusual for telugu audience.Editing is average and music provides great strength.

coming to performances mahesh babu who never fails as an actor is main strength of the movie. His look was a feast to his fans and his expressions in emotional scenes were top notch.kriti sanon played her part well.I should really appreciate director for choosing a different subject to provide audience a different experience in Hollywood style. But the main problem in the movie is it lacks sufficient suspense to hold the audience to their seat. The psychological problems of the main character creates problems for the common man to understand it.This movie is understood by each person in their own way. Some hate it to hell and some love to core

Cinematography should be mentioned specially as it is heart of the movie.Stunts are good and twists make you stick to the story between some loose scenes.Overall it reaches high mark on Hollywood movie lovers and common telugu audience must see it in different way but not by routine telugu film formula

Interesting movie, Unpredictable till the end......
sivakumar-muthuvel10 January 2014
This is the first movie, I am writing a review, I may not be good at this. So please apologise.

I am from Tamilnadu. Though I watched many telugu movies, this is the first one I watched in theatre. It was a completely different story from what I had expected.

Technically, the movie is brilliant. Unlike most of the action packed telugu movies, the first half doesn't end in a fight which I expected. Although, the fight was there, but the pre-interval scene is excellent. Kudos to the director Sukumar. He made the audiences guessing till the end. This is one of the best performances(even the best) from Mahesh Babu.

Kriti Sanon does a good job in the film. But she doesn't have much scope in second half. Though the second half is bit dragging, the movie becomes pacy after the prison scene.

I recommend every movie lovers should watch the film.

Way better than the present mindless telugu cinema.
TheOneWhoAbides15 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit that this film was way better than the present usual mindless telugu cinema. Best thing about this movie is that it does not deviate from it's plot with so called "comedy track" and nonsense like that. But this movie has lots of fun and comedy which goes along with the plot. The first half is good and neatly written, the sequences between the lead actor and actress gives loads of fun. Songs are properly placed so to speak and do not let the film deviate from it's plot. One brilliant scene near the end of first half, the one in the washroom, the scene was so entertaining but the continuity error was so clear in the scene, the slider of the gun goes back even though it's loaded and in a brief cut it gets normal and in the next cut it goes back again. The second half was not so gripping like the first one. When i watched the movie it was edited out for 20 minutes because of excessive run time, the cuts were so bad they looked like jump cuts. By the time it comes to the end the story gets too complicated and one can actually wonder if that much of a complication is really required. The scene in which Nasser gets killed was badly made. The stunt sequences are good at times but the bad CGI makes them look unrealistic. The background score was fine. One scene at the end where the lead actor finds his way home by recollecting that rhyme he used to sing, he actually travels miles and miles. Did he used to travel all that distance everyday to reach the school bus?! Anyway, the scene was well made. All those average audiences who are into watching potboiler kind of cinema may not like this movie. But it wasn't intellectually superior either. The twisted screenplay camouflages so many errors. For instance, a huge monstrous truck runs into a car in which the lead actors travel but they manage to survive with almost no injuries. And the lead actor is a popular celebrity but the media or police don't even care when he unleashes chaos on roads, on the top of the buildings and when he goes on shooting people near police stations and roads, not to mention the mass killing at the end of the movie. But then again, its a ray of hope for different cinema in an industry which relies so much on mediocrity

1 and only movie in tollywood.....
sumanththeprince219 January 2014
Mahesh is differently seen in a serious and new look. The center of attraction of are the action scenes.Director Sukumar put in his best efforts to carve the movie a masterpiece. The movie narration is too good as there are many twists. Audience have to watch it on the screen and enjoy the thrill.Even this movie has proved as director's fantastic choice.DSP background score stands as a great barrier.Heroine Kritivsanon plays a glamorous role.Lack of comedy is the only minus point.Sukumar always does a kind of love stories but this is quite different from them. Even an anti fan cannot hate this movie.Reached the expectations,a must watch movie.........

A right step for tollywood!!!!
jmoneyjohal11 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
1 Nenokkadine is a psychological thriller and it is high on action quotient. Mahesh Babu's electrifying performance is the main highlight in the film. Sukumar's engrossing screenplay and emotionally-charged dialogues, Devi Sri Prasad's songs and background score, R Rathnavelu's amazing camera work, brilliantly-choreographed action and chases scenes, Kriti Sanon's glamour, and exotic locales are other big attractions in the film. The dragging narration in the second half and lack of entertainment quotient are its big drawbacks. Sukumar has chosen an interesting story, which has not been explored many times in Tollywood. The film 1: Nenokkadine is all about a young guy, who is desperate to know his identity. Having lost his memory in an accident, he goes in search of his true self. The director seems to have drawn inspiration from a Hollywood film The Bourne Identity. Though its storyline is simple, the director has included lot of twists and turns in the narration, which makes the audience glued to screens throughout the film. Not many directors dare to include commercial elements in a psychological thriller, but Sukumar has done it very nicely without harming the tempo of 1: Nenokkadine. Since it is a big-budget movie, he has balanced the content and commercial viability of the film. He has embedded it with plenty of intense action and excellent emotional sequences in the movie. His screenplay will give you new experience. The first half of 1: Nenokkadine is excellent and will impress all classes of audience. A few sentimental scenes slow down the pace of narration in the second half. But the superb climax that lasts for 15 minutes will compensate it. The viewers will surely walk out of theatre with contented heart. Sukumar should be commended for brilliant characterization in 1: Nenokkadine. Mahesh Babu appears in two different getups and he impresses the viewers in both shades. He has delivered wonderful performance in action, dance and sentimental scenes. Newbie Kriti Sanon does not have much scope for performance, but she manages to steal the show with her glam quotient. As usual, talented artistes Nassar, Anu Hasan, Sayaji Shinde, Pradeep Rawat, Kelly Dorji, Vikram Singh, Posani Krishna Murali, Srinivasa Reddy, Anand and Supreet Reddy have delivered their best. Mahesh Babu's Gautham Krishna, who enters films as child artiste, will also win the heart of the film goers. The production values of 1: Nenokkadine are on par with Hollywood standards and Ratnavelu's cinematography is the main attraction in the technical front. Devi Sri Prasad's music and background score are also among the big strengths of the film. Though all his songs are good to listen, a couple of them have been misplaced. International stunt coordinator Conrad Palmisano's stunts and chase scenes are also one of the main highlights of the film. Other technical departments have also done commendable job. Karthika Srinivas' editing is also good, but he could have trimmed a few scenes in the second half. Overall, 1: Nenokkadine is a wonderful psychological thriller, which will appeal to all classes of audience. The movie has Mahesh Babu's excellent performance, Sukumar brilliant direction, and amazing technical stuff. It is a paisa vasool entertainer that will remain as a classic and landmark film in the career of Mahesh Babu and Sukumar

Makes you think Hollywood isn't mostly just talent-less hacks
diomavro18 January 2016
If you are like me then every once in a while you are haunted by the specter of open-mindedness, which tells you to look outwards and expand your horizons. Between so much garbage that Hollywood dishes out its easy to get depressed and think that there must be a more efficient way to scan for good films. With this in mind, one might try out Bollywood, only to be blown away by a re-definition of passionless trash.

I admit I could not get into more than half an hour into this but it was for a good reason. Every scene is overblown with comically timed slow-motion sequences that serve to do nothing, pointless shots that do give you a headache, out of place lighting that ruins any possible immersion and some of the worst acting you can find on screen.

There is no sense of coherency when it comes to crowd dynamics, character development, or even basic physics.

This is a godawful film, I have no idea why IMDb has such a high score to it, the people voting for this nonsense are either four-year-olds or anti-natalist philosophers, hoping for inspirational suicides.

first of all I'm not a big fan of MAHESH BABU though i like him as a hard worker , I'm shocked after watching the movie ... its unbelievable awesome direction and screen play is fantastic , this is the best any director can do , really director SUKUMAR has done an intelligent and excellent job. the biggest negative for the film is , the Telugu people cant understand the film especially those who are not aware of English movies.this is the biggest drawback hope it gets profits in oversea at least.I kindly request those who want to watch this amazing flick, don't listen to the people who saw the film judge it by your self... this is one of the best film ever made in Telugu film industry

""1"" if u c the film carefully,it can be understood very very easily :P.Dont go by the critics, looks like a conspiracy..don't know why the critics didn't like the film, its way beyond the routine telugu films,as of now,the report is its avg,but I say its a path breaking film. Inception of tollywood
kalapalayeswanth11 January 2014
One. Nenokkadine!

The only tollywood movie I have seen with a genuine story and a cocktail of action and art. Mahesh Babu's action once again marks his genius in the field of fine arts. The movie itself was a beautiful ride- a ride I had when watching movies like A beautiful mind, The borne series, Inception, etc. For all my stupid eccentric hypocritical and unfathomably dumb friends who didn't like/understand the movie, Grow up and watch with an open mind. I understand the plot takes a great deal of mental abilities to comprehend. If you fail to comprehend it, I suggest you take Omega-3 supplements. Thanks!

I personally think "One" qualifies to be called the "Inception of tollywood".

A plot with sheer brilliance
imharishreddy311 January 2014
one tries to be too ambiguous with the kind of plot it has and was true to the point that it submerges into the heads of the class audience having a good rapport with the Hollywood kind of stuff.coming to the movie the story is all about a rock star who experiences a psychological disorder and its all about chasing the mystery that he experiences from childhood. and all the story is about how he chases it and knows about his parents. Though, the story is simple on like what makes it different is the screenplay which was explored in a fashion never before in Indian film industry. The first half is though illogical in some senses all you an watch out for is the second where in you are all set in the mood by some exciting interval episode, and the movie though is slightly dragged its sukumars way of treatment its a perfect watch , it can be confusing but all in all the emotions leave out a wonderful feel. Its not for normal audience but a wonderful craft for movie lovers. Dsp bckrgrnd score is an asset and is dop.

A terrific thriller which is a rarity in telugu cinema
mohaniyer_7810 January 2014
Sukumar and mahesh babu have created a mind boggling thriller which the audience have to see to believe it. the "atmospheric" thing which is needed for a thriller worked big time in this movie and this attribute has stuck to this movie because of Mr.Sukumar. It was like a watching a Hollywood thriller movie with international standards. the production department has to be lauded for this.quite a complex screenplay but it keeps us glued to the screen and i wanted more of it.background score was terrific and the songs were mediocre. twists in the movie were simply awesome.this movie should be an eye opener for all Telugu directors who want to give different cinema.

Good movie indeed but totally exaggerated by viewers
nishantjaiswaliith4 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, I watched this movie because of it's very high rating, but no I really was not at all surprised. This indeed is a good movie without doubt, but calling mahesh babu as caprio or rather calling caprio as mahesh is just totally going overboard. For instance, the movie is filled with loopholes like if Nassar was the real villain, why give him the clues to find the third murderer in U.K when he himself killed his driver in front of Mahesh Babu... The movie is indeed very good compared to other Telugu movies but this is has been hyped by the local audience too much because probably it was the first time they had ever seen a movie in this genre, I mean come on people Di Caprio did movies like Shutter Island, Inception and Django Unchained which are legendary masterpieces from one of the finest actor. If this movie made you feel awesome, I'd recommend you guys to watch movies like Source code, Triangle and Predestination to name a few so that you can find that this doesn't even stand a chance against Hollywood movies.

horrible
deadspace0912 March 2016
Had to give 1 star to make up for the obvious bullshit boosting of the score. 8.6 is avg rating; lmao, ridiculous.

The avg score should be 4-6 max.

Either telegu speakers don't know what a good movie is or this trash has been boosted horrendously. Probably a little of both.

Bollywood seems to be more true to the avg rating. Not always but for the most part; if a bollywood film has 8.0+ its usually a decent watch or at least not below my opinion of what a 6.5 film is.

The actress is attractive, only real positive thing in the film.

The frog leaping was hilarious, but it was not supposed to be a comedy. The dancing was off beat and bad.

High Expectations..Mahesh On a Roll with continuous hits..Sukumar's styling and story line..yea will keep you high on expectations.!

But, this movie is "once in a hundred year" thriller, with stunning stunts and mind-blowing twists that keep your brain active and make you think..

A brave attempt combined with Mahesh performance , DSP music, Kirti Sanon beautiful camera friendly face, clever screenplay, intelligent cinematography is never before seen in a Telugu cinema.!

Sukumar has done a decent job in placing the twists and turns at the right places and his emphasis on psychological elements is commendable.

interval bang is mind-blowing and the ways in which the movie plays with your brain is a fantastic.!

Don't expect anything and you wont be disappointed.! 1st half is nicely paced with required essentials..and songs are pretty good too. 2nd half is a bit slow and by the time you think its over..guess what? not yet!

Gautham (Mahesh) is a rockstar suffering from a mental disorder due to which he loses grip over reality. But he's convinced his parents were murdered by three men and his only goal is revenge.

Gautham is introduced as he awakens from a nightmare from his childhood where he's on the run, dodging bullets from goons. It is followed by a prophetic rock number that goes: "Who are you?"... giving you a hint of the central theme of the film. The song ends in a spectacular chase sequence after which Gautam surrenders to the police, confessing to killing three people who murdered his parents. It is revealed, our man is suffering from a brain disorder resulting from a 25% shortfall in gray matter in his brain. As a result, he can't differentiate reality from imagination - the doctor explains after proving that Gautam doesn't remember how his parents looked.

Did he really have parents? Did they get killed? Is it all just a creation of his warped brain? The rest of the film is designed to answer these questions in a rather complex way, which is backed up by the hint of sophistication in the way the screenplay plays out. The movie is a simple yet multi-layered tale of revenge, where style becomes an indispensable part of the narrative. Director, Sukumar has garbed the film with dark yet chic visuals rather than the candy floss that Telugu cinema loves. The cinematography is slick and creates an intense mood with dull color pallets. Director of photography, R. Rathnavelu, lends a master-stroke - the visuals of the film actually outdo the story. This isn't about frames filled with beautiful pictures - which we usually revere as great cinematography - but about mood and texture, beveled angles, and all those elements that impinge us at an almost subconscious level. Editors, Karthika Srinivas and Shiva Saravanan, complement these astounding with some fine cutaways and freeze frames. Devi Sri Prasad's music adds soul to the film. His background score, too, is top-notch and even the theme music has been used effectively.

Mahesh Babu is pretty intense throughout and he's brooding, confused, and truly vengeful as a disoriented man out on a mission to prove his point and seek redemption. Mahesh has always been very effective as the kind of man so battered by life that he only sees the ugliness inside him. The way he pulled off the role with mental escapades is quite commendable. He does go overboard with the brooding act in a few places - he wears a permanent frown right through the movie without as much as half a grin even when he professes his love. He also seems to have worked on his dancing, which should cheer his die-hard fans big time. His dance moves in the song, "You're My Love", are to die for. Kriti Sanon looks pretty and is apt in her role. Kelly Dorji overacts as usual, and makes us cringe with his typical mannerisms and dialogue delivery. Nasser plays an important role and delivers the goods. The rest of the supporting cast is passable.

The writing is sharp right through albeit not completely coherent. Sukumar has an engaging plot but his handling of the narrative falters intermittently, primarily because of the huge influence that Telegu cinematic idiosyncrasies have had on his craft. There are few staples that are typical of a Telugu film, and some of them are so garish that you scratch your head in disbelief. Though the story- line is engrossing, the ends result suffices to only blur the demarcations between staple commercial potboilers and stylishly artistic, cohesive fare. At times the emotional upheaval is so outlandish that you'll end up totally gobsmacked - and not in a conducive way. Some of the action scenes are breathtaking, but others fall well short and end up looking cheesy.

While "1 - Nenokkadine" dishes out a fair dose of thrilling elements, it doesn't live up to its initial promise. Still credit must be given to the Director, writers, and especially its star, Mahesh Babu, for taking a risk and delivering something fresh to mainstream Telegu cinema. The Director keeps his cards close to the chest for a larger part of the film, and keeps the audience guessing till the climax. However, this experience gets hampered, at places, by an overtly long narrative, some unnecessary twists, and a few staple Telegu cinema clichés. "1 - Nenokkadine" is still one of the better Telegu films in recent years, with total commitment from superstar, Mahesh Babu.

Better than most Telugu action films but that isn't telling much

Better than the usual Telugu masala action flicks. The style is somewhat trying to be like Hollywood thrillers but hasn't quite let go of the Telugu masala film aesthetics. The technical side s impressive but falls down when they settle for usual commercial tropes and making any of it useless. The plot is unnecessarily convoluted but for a commercial Telugu action film, this is quite an experiment and commendable that it got an actual plot unlike many of those films. As much as I love the eye-candy of the film Kriti Sanon, her scenes were just dragging the rest of the film which is already overlong.
