In her pub, Mae straightens a photo of Geronimo hanging above the bar. This echoes the same action taken by the bar owner Sam Malone in the finale of Cheers (1982), One for the Road (1993), where it was an homage to the late Nicholas Colasanto, who played "Coach" Ernie Pantusso.
After the game, Jason Sudeikis does the same dance that he does in the "What's up with that" skit on SNL. This dance had also appeared in the very first episode of Ted Lasso, in a video of him with his US football team.
During the match with West Ham, the advertising banner announces "Ivor's Sewer Tour, London's Premiere Tour of its Pipes," an obvious shout-out to season 3, episode 1.
At the end of the episode, the song "Father and Son" (1970) by Cat Stevens plays, followed immediately with "Fight Test" (2003) by The Flaming Lips. Due to the similarities between "Fight Test" with "Father and Son", The Flaming Lips reached a plagiarism case settlement with Stevens and he now receives 75% royalties for "Fight Test".
