I Liked This Episode Despite The Massive Plot Holes.
KoshNaranek3 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Wish the writers would have caught the GLARING plot hole of no dog saliva in his partner's fatal neck wound. The dog was licking the wound, as dogs are prone to do, and yet they found no dog saliva and only the attacker's human saliva there. The whole innocence of the dog was based upon that. Yes, the dog was innocent, but they got to that conclusion the wrong way. The logic path just didn't make sense.

Then, there was apparently nobody at the crime scene or back at the lab who knew how to handle the dog, and everybody was jumping to wrong conclusions about the dog's behavior and what went down. Why didn't they call the head guy in K-9 to come in right away at the crime scene to aid in handling the dog? He knew the dog responded to commands in French and would've done a better job than the cop who had the dog's neck in a snare. Other than that, and for the attacker managing to stay ahead of the dog by running, I liked the episode.

How could the writers, Hancock & Byer MISS this stuff, or be THAT lazy? Evidently, they don't know dogs, either.

I HOPE the dog makes further appearances with Nick, and doesn't get killed off. Like Bear, the Belgian Malinios, on Person of Interest, Sam the GSD could make a positive contribution to future CSI episodes, IF CSI get some wroters who can avoid plot holes that you could drive a semi through, i.e. writers who are familiar with GSD behavior.

A Dog's Life
Hitchcoc24 March 2021
A police canine officer is found dead in a sketchy part of town. It's as if his own dog had torn his throat out. The episode involves Nick Stokes getting to know the dog and using him to catch the murderer. An episode for dog lovers, it shows the workings of the canine unit. There is another murder of lawyer who sleeps with his clients and others. With an interesting twist.

Happy Halloween
claudio_carvalho28 November 2023
On the Halloween night, Nick and Brass arrive in a seedy part of Las Vegas to investigate a dead body found by two teenagers. There is a dog out of control near the body that needs to be restrained by the Animal Control. Soon the CSIs identify the victim as Officer Mike Nelson, from the K-9 Unit, and the dog is his partner Sam. They find money in the glove compartment of his car and methamphetamines in his possession, and they question whether Nelson was a dirty cop. Nick teams-up with Sam to seek out the killer of Nelson. Meanwhile, Finn and Morgan investigate the murder of the famous divorce lawyer Barry Sloan at home. One of the neighbors, the middle-aged Marjorie Randell, says that Barry was a good man and neighbor. Soon they learn that Barry was a womanizer and was sleeping with the wife of one of his clients. The man becomes the prime-suspect of his killing.

"Play Dead" is a great episode of "CSI", with two good segments. The investigation of Nick and Sam is good to see since the dog steals the show. The investigation of Finn and Morgan is also good, with the CSI ladies finding the truth based on one detail of the investigation. My vote is eight.
