Netflix has launched a full official trailer for the Keira Knightley-led series ‘Black Doves.’
Set against the backdrop of London at Christmas, the series is a sharp, action-filled, and heartfelt story of friendship and sacrifice. It follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a quick-witted, down-to-earth, dedicated wife and mother — and professional spy.
For 10 years, she’s been passing on her politician husband’s secrets to the shadowy organisation she works for: the Black Doves. When her secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is assassinated, her spymaster, the enigmatic Reed (Sarah Lancashire), calls in Helen’s old friend Sam (Ben Whishaw) to keep her safe. Together, Helen and Sam set off on a mission to investigate who killed Jason and why, leading them to uncover a vast, interconnected conspiracy linking the murky London underworld to a looming geopolitical crisis.

Confirming a recent casting rumor, the trades are reporting that Kelly Macdonald has now officially signed on for a supporting role in HBO's Lanterns series.
We had heard that the Scottish actress - who has appeared in the likes of Trainspotting, No Country for Old Men and Boardwalk Empire - was up for the role of Hal Jordan's love-interest, which led to speculation that she might be playing Star Sapphire.
While her character is expected to become romantically involved with Jordan, she doesn't appear to be playing an established DC Comics hero or villain.
According to THR, Macdonald will play Sheriff Kerry, "a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface."
Macdonald joins Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as Hal Jordan.

Writer-creator Joe Barton is probably best known for his work on series such as “Girl/Haji” and “The Lazarus Project,” but those in the know, know he’s almost as famous for all the things he hasn’t made but has been tapped to create. One of the hottest screenwriters in the U.K. at the moment, Barton was once tapped to be the showrunner of the Matt Reeves’ “Gotham Pd” Batman spin-off series that never came to pass, and he was one of the writers invited to pitch on the fourth season of “True Detective.” He’s written scripts for Michael Bay, has an “Amadeus” TV series in the works, and is also the writer of an untitled “Cloverfield” sequel that Babak Anvari is supposed to direct.

This article from the HBO and Max miniseries The Penguin Season 1 Episode 6 titled “Gold Summit” contains significant spoilers.
The Penguin episode titled “Gold Summit” is the most explosive of the season. The 52 minutes and 20 seconds of pure DC Comics bliss begins with Oz and his flourishing operation. Gotham’s underground network is bearing fruit—in this case, mushrooms, known as “Bliss.”
The group extracts the red liquid and forms a crystal to make Walter White proud. Notably, Oz uses Gotham’s poorest residents, paying them well to sell drugs across all territories. Meanwhile, Sofia is engaging in a night of sadomasochism with her mental health Pcp, Dr. Julian Rush (Theo Rossi).
As she unties Rush, she heads to the kitchen, where Sal Maroni cooks one of his wife’s favorite dishes. She reports that they lost Victor in the tunnels and that Oz is moving his product into Sullivan territory.

Of all seasons of "True Detective," season 2 remains the most maligned. But I always appreciate an attempt to peer under the carapace of sunny California and see what wretched beasts spring forth, and I think season 2 of Nic Pizzolatto's crime thriller series did as good a job as any of probing the dark side of the City of Angels. The same could be said of the first season, I suppose, though the swampy environs of deep Louisiana seem to lend themselves more to a murky noir mystery than SoCal. Regardless, it was when trying to find other shows with a similar tone to the first and second season of "True Detective" that I came across the "Red Riding" trilogy.

You’ve still got time to squeeze in some scary shows before Halloween: We recommend these limited series, including AMC’s “The Terror,” and the original “Salem’s Lot” from 1979, that can easily be binged in a weekend or just a day.
The series on our list are all under 10 episodes and available to stream right now, so grab your big bucket of popcorn, get cozy on the couch and spend some time with these vampires, ghosts, witches and some really haunted real estate.
“The Terror” (AMC) The Terror
Based on the real-life doomed arctic expedition of Captain Sir John Franklin (played here by Ciarán Hinds): We see the men aboard two ships, one of which is unwisely named the Hms Terror, struggle as they slowly try to carve a path through the ice. But there’s something (or things) much more sinister plaguing the journey. Jared Harris and Tobias Menzies costar.

Labels like “comedy” and “drama” are fundamentally meaningless — except when it comes to TV awards, when the distinction can mean the difference between win and lose or a nomination and a snub. That’s why the denizens of Hollywood, eager to buck tradition and format for the sake of art most of the year, tend to lose their shit around Emmy season.
The annual debate resurfaced this past summer when The Bear scored 23 Emmy nominations and broke 30 Rock’s record for the most for a comedy in a single season. The genre, after all, was long-dominated by sitcoms — Frasier being the all-time Emmy with 37 wins, followed closely by The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Cheers. And while there’s no arguing that The Bear is an incredibly well-made piece of television, as evidenced by the eventual 11 wins in a diverse pool of categories, it’s not exactly brimming with levity.

Actor Deborah Ayorinde has signed with Range Media Partners.
The British-Nigerian actress most recently starred in the Lyric Hammersmith theater production of “Wedding Band,” directed by Monique Touko, which earned her a Stage Debut Award nomination for her performance. Set in the deep south of the U.S. in 1918 when interracial marriage was illegal, Julia (Ayorinde), a black seamstress, and Herman, a white baker, defy all odds with their secret love.
Up next, Ayorinde will star in the limited series “Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue” for MGM+, created and executive produced by Anthony Horowitz.
This past spring, Ayorinde led the second installment of Little Marvin’s limited anthology series for Prime Video, “Them: The Scare.” She also led the first installment “Them: Covenant,” which released in April 2021 and premiered at the SXSW, where it won an audience award for “Best Episodic Premiere.” The series explores terror in America with...

“This isn’t ‘Twin Peaks,’ love.” “You’re like ‘Vera,’ boss.” “This is not ‘Broadchurch.’” BritBox’s new acquisition “Passenger” was obviously determined to stay one step ahead of critics, constantly namechecking the shows it has since inevitably drawn comparisons with. It could have referenced a dozen others, too. The dystopian conspiracies of “Black Mirror,” for example, or the supernatural mysteries of “Stranger Things.” Pop culture literates may also be reminded of everything from “The X Files” and “True Detective” to “Fargo” and even British rural soap opera “Emmerdale.”

“Bad Sisters,” Apple TV+’s Emmy-nominated dark comedy-thriller, is finally returning for Season 2, and it got a new trailer on Tuesday. The trailer promises further complications for the five Garvey sisters right when things are finally getting better for them, as they try to keep their murder of John Paul (Claes Bang) a secret while a new character played by Fiona Shaw (“True Detective: Night Country”) is onto them. The trailer is scored by an Irished-up version of Fiona Apple’s “Criminal,” which opens with the lyric “I’ve been a bad, bad girl.”
“Bad Sisters” premiered in 2022 and earned four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Sharon Horgan (“Catastrophe”), who also co-created the show with “New Girl” veterans Brett Baer and Dave Finkel and serves as executive producer. We finally saw Blade appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film — it just wasn’t the Blade played by Mahershala Ali. The first appearance of Blade in the MCU came in “Deadpool & Wolverine” with Wesley Snipes reprising his iconic role.
And now Ali’s “Blade” has been delayed yet again, pulled from Disney’s 2025 release slate entirely. What a disaster.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige first announced a “Blade” reboot back in 2019 with Ali attached to star, and the character was even teased in the post-credits of 2021’s “Eternals,” a would-be franchise that now seems forgotten.
“Blade” has been through many starts and stops, with several writers and directors filtering through and with delays because of the writers strike and more. Through it all, the franchise’s original stars Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff haven’t refrained from talking about it.
“It’s not the actor’s fault,” Snipes said of Ali.

Even though it seems obvious at this point, sad as that may be, Marvel's long gestating "Blade" reboot has officially lost its release date. The film, which is due to star Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali was previously set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025. That's no longer happening, leaving the project on uncertain ground. There is some good news, however, as Disney has opted to give that release date to something both deserving and exciting.
Disney has now officially given "Prey" director Dan Trachtenberg's new "Predator" movie "Predator: Badlands" the November release date previously reserved for "Blade." That means this one will get a theatrical release, unlike "Prey," which was dumped directly to Hulu in 2022. That release strategy has long been viewed as a mistake by Disney as the film was met with rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. It presumably would have done big business at the box office,...

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were at the peak of their stardom when they starred together in The Twilight Saga. The romantic fantasy franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s young-adult novels was a huge hit and consisted of five films. After the ordeal of headlining one of the biggest franchises at the time, the duo went on to star in many indie films.
Pattinson and Stewart have never reunited on screen despite their interests in films crossing over. The two were also linked romantically but a case of alleged infidelity from Stewart drew them apart. However, fans have been clamoring for the two to appear together on screen again, and they seem to have an amazing suggestion.

While we met several members of the Green Lantern Corps in the Ryan Reynolds-led feature film, this new series is intentionally plural, as we will meet more than just Hal Jordan. According to James Gunn, Lanterns will center on Jon Stewart, who briefly appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League in a non-speaking role. We also know that James Gunn’s longtime friend and collaborator Nathan Fillion is portraying Lanterns hero Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman movie and will potentially appear.

Jodie Foster's career has been famously wild. As a child, she appeared in lightweight Disney films like "Napoleon and Samantha" and "Freaky Friday," while also taking the world by surprise playing an underage sex worker in Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver." Throughout the 1980s, she successfully continued acting as she grew, appearing in films like "Foxes," "The Hotel New Hampshire," and "The Accused," for which she won her first Academy Award. In 1991, Foster won her second Oscar for playing FBI cadet Clarice Starling in Jonathan Demme's bleak serial killer thriller "The Silence of the Lambs," one of the few films to win "The Big Five" Oscars. That same year, Foster made her directorial debut with the child-prodigy drama "Little Man Tate."
From then on, Foster was a Hollywood staple, leading multiple high-profile studio dramas like "Maverick," Robert Zemeckis' "Contact," and "Anna and the King." She also worked with...

Alright, I'll admit it: It's hard to keep the "Yellowstone" extended universe straight. Since 2018, the Western drama about warring factions of a powerful Montana family has been a watercooler favorite of TV fans around the country, and this fall, the original series is finally set to begin its last stretch of episodes. In the years since "Yellowstone" first aired, series creator Taylor Sheridan has been pulling double, triple, and quadruple duty, crafting two prequel series (wagon train survival story "1883" and Prohibition-set drama "1923") plus several other unrelated shows for Paramount+.
Now that the end of "Yellowstone" is on the horizon, it's worth straightening out the many differing reports of what's next for Sheridan and the show's future. Poke around, and you'll see reports about no fewer than four "Yellowstone" spin-offs in development, including "6666," "The Madison," "1944," and "2024." It's a lot of dates to keep straight, and each one comes with casting rumors galore,...

At 61, Demi Moore is having a major career comeback with “The Substance,” Coralie Fargeat’s critically-acclaimed horror film that examines society’s obsession with beauty and youth. It takes the actress into vulnerable terrain where she is stark naked and then morphs into a grotesque troll.
It’s not the only daring performance by a woman over 60 of late. Sixty-two-year-old Michelle Yeoh’s Oscar-winning role in the multiverse-jumping action-drama “Everything Everywhere All at Once” let her play a pantheon of wildly different women, including a martial arts expert and a glamorous movie star. Jamie Lee Curtis, 65, defied convention as a drab IRS auditor in the same film, and did it again in a tour de force guest turn as the unhinged mother in “The Bear.”
Other older actresses are breaking the mold: Jodie Foster, 61, won her first Emmy for playing a dogged investigator in “True Detective: Night Country” this year,...

Sean Astin may not be getting the Goonies sequel he’s hoping for, but he does have a role in an upcoming movie that has a shot at achieving cult classic status: a horror comedy called The Invisible Raptor, which will be receiving a theatrical and digital release (courtesy of Well Go USA) on December 6th. The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Sitges Film Festival and currently, with seven reviews, has a 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Directed by Mike Hermosa from a screenplay by Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham, The Invisible Raptor has the following synopsis: After a top-secret experiment goes wrong, a hyper-intelligent invisible raptor escapes the lab and begins wreaking havoc in the surrounding neighborhood. Playing both sides when you’re a spy is a dangerous game. You must keep your lies straight if you hope to survive, and knowing who to trust is a constant struggle. People you coordinate missions with say they have your best interests and protection in mind, but do they? Who’s to say they won’t throw you to wolves to save their skin when everything goes south? Keira Knightley will find out who has her back and who wants her dead in the upcoming spy thriller series Black Doves, premiering globally on Netflix on December 5, 2024.

Sofia Vergara has played some insanely iconic roles over the years but she’s most known for playing the incredibly naive and yet feisty Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on Modern Family. This project helped the 52-year-old find a place in the industry, which also eventually kickstarted the launch of various business ventures that helped her become one of the most successful actresses today.

Despite being booked for roles in successful movies such as The Smurfs, Chef, and Despicable Me, while being recruited as a judge on America’s Got Talent, Vergara had one story that captured her heart, the story of Griselda Blanco, a Columbian drug lord.
Vergara ultimately turned it into a passion project and approached Narcos’ Eric Newman to produce the show with Netflix. Little did she know, Griselda would lead to one of her life’s lowest points.

We recently got word that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) had landed the role of John Stewart in the upcoming Dcu Lanterns series, with Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) officially confirmed to star as Hal Jordan around the same time.
Now, 21x4 has shared some impressive fan-art which may give us an idea of how Pierre and Chandler will look as the rookie ring-slinging hero and the Green Lantern Corps veteran who will become his reluctant mentor.
Pierre was always a fan-favorite pick to play Stewart, but we had heard that fellow frontrunner Stephan James (Babes) was the studio's top choice. We do know that Josh Brolin (and several other A-list actors if reports are to be believed) was offered the role of Jordan, and fans don't seem to have warmed to the idea of Chandler suiting-up as the character just yet.

Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker Jodie Foster is set to star in a French movie, “Vie Privée,” the next directorial effort of Rebecca Zlotowski.
Currently filming in France, “Vie Privée” will mark Zlotowski’s follow up to “Other People’s Children,” which competed at the Venice Film Festival in 2022.
The movie is penned by Zlotowski, Anne Berest, a well-known French novelist (“The Postcard”) and screenwriter (“Happening”), alongside Gaëlle Macé. Zlotowski and Macé previously collaborated on the script of “Grand Central.” Zlotowski’s regular producer, Frederic Jouve at Paris-based Velvet Films is producing.
Foster, who was last seen in “True Detective: Night Country,” picks her roles very selectively. Her pairing with Zlotowski seems like an ideal match as they share a similar sensibility and are both interested in dramas portraying multi-faceted characters, many of which are female protagonists.

Yesterday, DC Studios made it official: Lanterns will see Kyle Chandler play Hal Jordan, with Aaron Pierre taking on the role of John Stewart. We'd imagine the plan now is to start filling out the supporting cast for this Earthbound adventure featuring the two Green Lantern Corps members.
Kelly MacDonald is reportedly being eyed for one female lead role and Nexus Point News' @ApocHorseman has now shared a few additional details about the show's supposed love interests.
"As I reported yesterday, Hal's love interest is the town's sheriff Kerrie Kane," they reveal. "John does get into an affair with an older woman named Zoe. She’s a Native American woman and the only person of color in an all white town."
The scooper adds, "Zoe's married to a businessman named Dillon and he's described as one of the antagonists of the series. Not sure if any of these are codenames or not.

DC Studios and HBO have announced today that Aaron Pierre will play John Stewart in Lanterns. Kyle Chandler was recently cast as Hal Jordan, though the expectation is that Pierre will eventually be the Dcu's main Green Lantern.
Nathan Fillion was previously cast as Guy Gardner in Superman.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hunt for John came down to Pierre and Stephan James. They both took part in screen tests alongside Chandler on Thursday and Friday and while each "had their boosters," a final decision was made yesterday.
Pierre currently stars as the lead in Jeremy Saulnier's Rebel Ridge which debuted on Netflix on September 6 and was the #1 title worldwide on Netflix for three weeks in a row. In December, Aaron will take on the titular role of Mufasa in Barry Jenkins' animated Lion King prequel for Disney.

If you're a film fan with a Netflix subscription, you've almost certainly watched Jeremy Saulnier's white-knuckle thriller Rebel Ridge at some point in the last month. And if you've watched Rebel Ridge, then you'll have seen its star, Aaron Pierre, put in one of the performances of the year as hyper-skilled, hyper-competent former marine Terry Richmond. It's a turn that clearly caught the eye of the folks in charge of HBO's upcoming DC Green Lantern show Lanterns, as Pierre has just landed the co-lead as the series' young buck Lantern John Stewart.
Co-written by the creative trio of showrunner Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country) and co-writers Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and DC Comics legend Tom King, Lanterns — which landed itself a straight-to-series 8-episode order back in June — will see Pierre star opposite Kyle Chandler, who's set to take on the role of veteran Lantern Hal Jordan. Per the show's official logline,...

However, after breaking into the film industry, the actress broke away from her PG roles to tackle a character in the American drama series, True Detective. With the show focusing on detectives being forced to face dark secrets about themselves, the 38-year-old was tossed into the ring as a court reporter having an affair with a married detective, who was played by Woody Harrelson.

From Mid-Sized Sedan to the blockbuster-sized superhero role of a lifetime. Rapidly-rising actor Aaron Pierre most recently made waves for his lead performance in Jeremy Saulnier's latest action flick, "Rebel Ridge," which immediately set itself apart from just about every other streaming offering currently available on Netflix. For the rest of us, he'll forever be known as the charismatic rapper who went by the brilliantly silly stage name of Mid-Sized Sedan from M. Night Shyamalan's "Old" in 2021. No matter how you were first introduced to Pierre, however, we can all agree he's quickly become one of the most in-demand performers in the business. Now, after weeks of speculation and fan-casting rumors that he'd be the perfect choice for our new Green Lantern, it appears DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran wholeheartedly agree.
This afternoon, the exciting news finally broke that DC Studios has tapped Aaron Pierre...
