The second episode of the second season shows Quinn in a state of distress and depression, as the public seems to consider her guilty, and the prosecutor who tried her case being given a leave of absence for basically getting railroaded by Olivia through back channels he plans to investigate. David against Olivia should be quite a compelling story arc going forward. The key component to "The Other Woman" is how the death of a revered "preacher of the country" died while in the middle of kinky sex with his mistress of fifteen years! While maintaining his marriage and family, this preacher, quite an icon among the years and a key support system for the President, would continue an affair with the law-degree mistress, even producing a child from this. How the mistress demands "hush money" (for reasons beyond greed; this is an emotional reaction to a loss) and the way Olivia and her crisis team try to "clean it up" so that the preacher isn't slandered by the media circus that would result is the brunt of drama for this episode. This parallels President Fitzgerald and Olivia's situation as they deeply care for each other and share "them time" on a phone call late each night (on a secure line) while he is married to the First Lady (who is trying to strengthen their relationship as Fitz seems cruelly devoted in behavior to anyone/everyone/anything/everything but her.) So you have yearnings continuing and how this correlates with the pain of a preacher's wife, dealing with the betrayal and secrecy of a husband's sexual indiscretions. There's an important scene that truly shows where the marriage of the President and his wife has come down to as she genuinely seeks his forgiveness for her media antics lately: while he does forgive her, even holding her face comfortably in his hands, Fitz pulls away and drifts back into the work of his job. She is left feeling as if all her attempts at reconciliation and damage control for their marriage have been in vain. This tells us that Fitz is devoted to Olivia in love and heart, while his marriage is a deterrence he must endure, a prolonging misery he doesn't really want but due to the place he is in life demands. Meanwhile Cy and his male partner discuss (or fight) about "getting a baby" which results in heated discussions. Quinn's own father believing she is perhaps responsible for the bomb murders of seven people is seriously wounding to her heart and soul, with a tormented Huck (his past career haunting him daily) telling her she must act as if this part of her life died that day as well. Olivia yelling at Fitz for him to halt David's actions about an autopsy for the preacher really indicates where she is at this pointÂ…hopelessly in trouble of not securing her client's peace of mind, Olivia will use whatever leverage is at her disposal to win. David's tumult, as his career begins to cascade due to the trial he didn't lose as much as fail to have Olivia's connections to succeed, is certain to encourage a determined investigation to discredit her for what she has done to him.
