The most COMPLETE movie!

This is my all time favourite movie!

My way of perceiving the world totally changed after watching it.

I have watched it innumerable times, yet find something new to learn every time I watch. Upendra questions our human culture as a whole! He points out the hypocrisy in all of us! By keeping three women as his main characters(Happiness, responsibilities and wealth) in the movie, he shows how obsessions make one's life chaotic. In the climax he beautifully explains how the I and MINE mindset in a person directly have an influence on his happiness and sadness.

For anybody watching it the first time - You need to watch it at least twice to be able to make out what the movie really says!!

Hats off to Uppi sir for his efforts!

Its been close to 14 years i watched this movie, boy let me tell you till date i consider this as my favorite movie not only in Kannada. I cannot praise Upendra for giving such an extra ordinary movie to Kannada Audience. I wish i can see something like this in my life again.

I feel the movie was way ahead of time, it was pure vision from Uppi sir. i like every scene from the movie, few highlights of the movie were title song and the climax scene,its amazing the way he has ended the climax. could not think of any better ending for the epic movie like Upendra.

Sheer brilliance .This movie is still so fresh and engrossing. Movie brings out the double standards followed by humans . It is a philosophical movie told in a exciting , unusual and unbelievable way by Upendra. Movie Opening Scene, title song and climax are extraordinary.

Movie brings out the selfishness and egoistic attitude of the human beings to the core with a extraordinary climax which is open ended. It raises questions on the hypocrite society with 'Nanu' Character.

Upendra as a director has proved once again he is way ahead of the time to give a extraordinary movie. Waiting for its sequel Uppi 2 .

Human desires as characters, every single characters is exists in real life. Acting of Hero/ Director/ writer is beyond our expectations. He is better than Joker character. If yiu won't belive watch the movie for 30 minutes.

The other reviewers have already done justice in praising "Upendra" the director and the film, especially the one who said this movie made them change the way they viewed the world - believe me, that person isn't alone! I think it made a whole generation of ours to do the same. Only Upendra could envision this monster of a movie and actually pull it off! Kudos to him. If you haven't watched it yet I cannot recommend this one highly enough. Go for it, last I checked it's available for free viewing on YouTube.

Upendra, the guy who narrated an Indian philosophical concept in a terrific commercial way which no one did ever in Indain cinema history. He is the guy who can think like what the rest of the world cannot think ever. The movie is a 2D story plot which deals with one's personal life along with his desire to become powerful in the world. And he is the worlds(50) best director who placed in 17th position in IMDB list. This movie ran 200 days succesfully in karnataka and completed 150 days in Andhrapradesh. Upendra Become popular in south INDIA after his ''A'' movie along with ''UPENDRA''. Screenplay was marvellous and fans were crazy about this movie.

A movie that revolves around the "greed self" controlled by the balance and often clash of *human desires* vs "human responsibilities " vs "human sustenance" as expressed by three characters! A must watch movie which was released in 1999, way, way ,way ahead of it's time! Relevant till date!!... Would rate it more than 10 if the Rating alowed me to do so!

Ageless movie

This movie was released 20 years ago and even now when you watch it it doesn't feel outdated. It was way ahead of its time. Upendra is a master class when it comes conveying a philosophy while keeping the audience entertained through out the movie. Non linear timelines, different perceptive, breaking the 4th wall makes the movie cult classic. I have never scene a movie in which the protagonist is introduced in the story. This movie has inspired lot of people to become filmmakers..

This is a masterpiece from Upendra. If you ask me this is the No 1 movie ever made in the history of the cinema. It questions human hypocrisy. It makes you question deeply on what really a man needs in this world. Why does he struggle even with all the wealth/fame/love? What is it that can give a man eternal peace. And the answer lies in the core concept of identity a human being has about himself. And all the relationships associated with the identity. How can he break this? This the central theme of the movie. But guess what such deep philosophy is told in a fully commercialized way with loudness and noise. And kudos to Upendra for the fantastic screenplay. This is not a movie which can be made easily Upendra must have spent years on this concept within himself..

Unique Masterpiece

Upendra movie is one of those movies that are so tangentially to mainstream movies that it requires multiple viewing to understand the intricacies of the movie.

Upendra movie attempts to showcase the current status of the society and beautifully threads them into Indian Philosophical thought. The genius of the movie is that it does so in a very course and main stream manner rather than in a artistic nouveau movie that usually take such endeavors. While some might find the movie to trashy, but it does serve the purpose given that the movie became a mainstream hit.

From the songs, to script writing, to acting and finally to directing, this movie is well made. Given the constraints of the time and given innovative concept, this is truly a tremendous effort that needs to be applauded.

Finally my recommendation is for people to watch the movie. This is one of the rare movies captures zeitgeist of the time in a such an unique way that there is no other comparable movie in the world (to best of my knowledge). Hence a movie every movie buff must watch and deserves to be among the GOATs.

Important movie of 00's

This movie is so special because it broke many rules and formulas the character naanu is not at all likeable if considered in any other movie but you get invested with his antics and follow his story which is quite crazily written and shown.this has been the best work of upendra even after watching it after 20 years it stays fresh. The whole story narrated by betal to vikram makes it another first times for movies, the philosophical touch is another way people connect with this classic. It is a must watch.

The only factor i didnt like it is my opinion which may differ to others is people romancing on park being criticized isn't it their right public display of affection is subjective but upendra being and considered intelligent i didn't expect such stuff. For example actors romancing in songs in front of so many people also would be critcized in that case lets not judge anyone it's their wish and will what they prefer.

9.5/10 but I give 10/10 The story of Human ego or "I" in everyone represented by a character and how it is influenced by the desires . Most movie makers make unreal films or fantasy type movies with some unreal elements or unreal ingredients portrayed in an unrealistic or fantasy world not giving 100 percent justice or basis of it or giving 100 percentage logic to the aim of that movie without proper sense . This movie blew my mind, this is the real deal and real characters or emotions interacting in various perspective in real world .This movie makes everyone think about the real perspective about the world they are in.
