Charlie was the counter balance to Alan.
Now Alan is beyond annoying and no one is slowing him down, that makes the show unwatchable.

Warning: Spoilers
Remember the days when this show had a heart? Remember the days when this show was smartly written.
Too often towards the end both of those things went out of the window, only to be replaced by an obsession with vulgar topics and sex jokes. And more so than it being annoying, it's actually quite sad to see how this show has fallen.
Jon Cryer, even more than Ashton Kutcher has carried the show in its ninth series, and although I don't like always what they've done with his character, without him it'd be lost.
Why do I keep watching it? Because I remember when it used to be good.
