- Mora: [nurse in hospital] Annie Walker's friend, right?
- Auggie Anderson: Yeah.
- Mora: What do you need?
- Auggie Anderson: I'm here to pick up her personal effects.
- Mora: A gentleman already collected them earlier. He had a warrant.
- Auggie Anderson: Gotta get me one of those.
- Arthur Campbell: It's been a long night, Auggie.
- Auggie Anderson: I haven't slept much either. I've been at the hospital waiting for a doctor to pull a bullet out of my friend.
- Arthur Campbell: You didn't come here to give me an update on Annie's condition, did you?
- Auggie Anderson: Word is Annie's being accused of treason. Tell me that's not true.
- Joan Campbell: All right, I'm taking you home. You need a good night's sleep.
- Auggie Anderson: How much sleep do you think I'm gonna get knowing that some committee is trying to burn Annie at the stake?
- Joan Campbell: It's nothing personal, Auggie, they're gonna make a decision based on the evidence.
- Auggie Anderson: If all they're looking for is evidence to indict, that's all they're gonna find. You gotta help me convince Arthur to give me those files. Somebody's gotta fight for Annie!
- Joan Campbell: I agree, which is why I've been sifting through every scrap of evidence, looking for everything I can to help Annie. I care about her, too, Auggie. Can you trust me to fight for her?
- Arthur Campbell: Maybe Lena was right. Maybe we brought Annie in too early.
- Joan Campbell: No, she was ready, Arthur. She had more raw talent than anyone I have ever seen, and in the two and a half years that we've worked together, she's proved herself to be an invaluable operative.
- Arthur Campbell: Invaluable? Even if she was lying to you the entire time?
- Joan Campbell: [rises] You have never doubted she was guilty, have you? You didn't even try to defend her. So what about the operative who depends on you to have their back?
- Arthur Campbell: Annie Walker...
- [shakes his head]
- Arthur Campbell: is looking very, very guilty. It's hard to accept.
- [nods]
- Arthur Campbell: I know.
- Danielle Brooks: [operating table hallucinations] I said it will just take a few minutes. Please, have a seat.
- Annie Walker: Danielle! What are you doing here?
- Danielle Brooks: I'm conducting a polygraph examination. On you.
- Annie Walker: [stunned, but...] Okay.
- [looks down]
- Annie Walker: This isn't really a good time.
- Danielle Brooks: Funny how it's never a good time when I need something from you.
- Annie Walker: [sighs] Let's do it.
- [sits down, offers her hand]
- Danielle Brooks: [after attaching wire] Is your name Anne Catherine Walker?
- Annie Walker: Yes.
- Danielle Brooks: Do you reside in Washington, D.C.?
- Annie Walker: [nods] Georgetown, yes.
- Danielle Brooks: Did you like the miso black cod I made for your birthday last year?
- Annie Walker: [frowns] What?
- Danielle Brooks: You barely touched it. You claimed you had a really big lunch that day. Did you like my cod?
- Annie Walker: [cornered, tries:] Yes.
- [polygraph beeps]
- Annie Walker: Come on, Danielle!
- [smiles]
- Danielle Brooks: [clears throat] Do you ever intend to keep the promises you make, or do you know they're empty when you make them?
- Annie Walker: [shocked] What?
- [looks very hurt]
- Danielle Brooks: I didn't compose the questions. I'm just here to conduct the interview. Please answer the question.
- Annie Walker: [shakes her head] I intend to keep every promise I make.
- [polygraph beeps, and she yells at it:]
- Annie Walker: I'm not lying!
- Danielle Brooks: Well, the machine indicates otherwise. And, frankly, I'm more inclined to trust an electronic device than you.
- Annie Walker: [shakes her head] You know what? This is over!
- [gets up, heads for door]
- Danielle Brooks: Did you ever consider what effects joining the C.I.A. would have on your family? Were you aware of the potential dangers, and chose to join regardless?
- Annie Walker: [emphatically] Nothing was ever more important to me than you.
- [opens door]
- Joan Campbell: [hallucination shifts, Joan takes place of Danielle] I don't know where your allegiance lies. But your actions suggest it isn't with me.
