Giulio De Santi new king of the sickies
shawnblackman1 July 2014
What the people in this Taeter City are eating is almost criminal. Wait a minute they ARE eating criminals.

This is set in a futuristic city where criminals(and future criminals)are tracked down and eventually fed to people via Taeter Burger. This movie is relentless nonstop mayhem. It rocks.

This is by the same gentleman who brought us Adam Chaplin which by the way kicked ass. If you're a fan of that one this film won't disappoint. Be warned though if you suffer seizures this might not be for you. I felt twitchy afterwards.

There is a lot of awesome violence packed into a tight 75 minute runtime(with 9 minutes of credits!). The director put a lot of work and editing time into this one. Kudos to him and I look forward to his upcoming Hotel Inferno.

Very gory but not much story.
BA_Harrison12 October 2014
In Taeter City, a futuristic civilisation ruled by a totalitarian regime known as 'The Authority', potentially violent criminals are identified by the Zeed system, which analyses the brain structure and converts killer instinct into suicidal impulses. Once dead, the criminal's body is collected and turned into fast food for the masses. However, the Zeed system is not perfect, mutating one such violent outlaw, Trevor Covalsky (director Giulio De Santi), and making him even more aggressive in the process. Authority bikers Razor, Shock and W**k (Monica Muñoz, Santiago Ortaez and Wilmar Zimosa) are given the task of trying to stop him.

Supernatural revenge flick Adam Chaplin, the debut film from Italian production company Necrostorm, blew me away with its cool narrative, over-the-top characters, ultra-violent comic book style and amazingly realistic gore effects (provided by this film's star and director De Santi). Taeter City, the company's ambitious follow up, employs a similarly excessive approach, but fails to impress as much, the story not as sharp and the characters less defined, with the regular and rather repetitive Verhoeven-style commercial breaks rapidly becoming tiresome. An overuse of flickery editing effects and digital colour-grading also proves irritating.

Thankfully, De Santi's incredibly bloody effects are just as impressive as before, and gore-hounds will undoubtedly get a huge kick from the sheer quantity and quality of the carnage on display: limbs are torn, heads are crushed, eyeballs are popped, guts are wrenched, hands are mangled and bodies are sliced, all of which is flawlessly executed (some of the effects are uncomfortably realistic). Hardly a minute goes by without some poor schmuck having something truly revolting happen to them. Movies rarely get more violent.

6/10—jaw dropping splatter, but the weak narrative lets it down a bit.

Taeter City truly delivers on its promise
actionjunky8123 November 2012
80's VIBE: The saturated colors create a dream-like atmosphere and the sci-fi technology is cheesy yet imaginative. Interspersed throughout the narrative are comical commercials for Taeter Burger and messages from Caronte, the head of The Authority, which is an interesting attempt at showing the omnipresence of the dictatorship. The acting is nothing spectacular and the voice acting is simplistic but some voices are bad ass (Caronte. Shock, Razor) All those aspects and the soundtrack, truly bring you back to memories like: Escape from New York, Class 1999, Blade Runner and Terminator.

VIOLENCE AND ACTION: The true star of this film are the action and the special effects. This movie is literally an Exxon-Valdez of red, with just enough story to keep things moving forward until you get to the next massive gore set-piece. People dismembered, heads crushed, appendages removed, and bodies exploded. Did I mention there was a lot of blood? While the film does contain CG, it more than makes up for it with the use of practical effects—often at the same time. There is no use of CG for simple headshots here (*cough*TheWalkingDead*cough*) but rather it's used where practical effects would either be too difficult or not provide an adequate level of insane violence. As soon as you hit play, prepare yourself for a non-stop barrage of gore and violence on a level you've never seen before. This movie is a must see for any gorehound. Taeter City truly delivers on its promise of "'80s vibe, sci-fi, action, violence, blood and again blood." Did I mention there was a lot of blood?

Indie gore flick
Leofwine_draca11 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
TAETER CITY is an indie science fiction flick from Italy which feels like a close rip-off of DREDD, albeit made on a miniscule budget. The story is set in a futuristic world where cannibalism and murder are rife, and constantly played out on screen. Yep, what we have here is an extreme gore movie featuring all manner of extremely splattery special effects every few minutes or so. There's no real story and the directorial style is extremely arty, trying to make the best of the limited resources but failing miserably. I hated every second of it.

2 Stars for some of the gore effects
shide_855 May 2021
In short: This is a gorefest, under some psychotic rambling to set the mood there is a story that with some help could suit a Judge Dredd movie (it's basically; what if Soylent green was commonly accepted and pushed by the market mixed with Judge Dredd). The saving grace of this movie is what also can make it hard to watch at points (atleast if you have seen real gore from real life or experienced it) the gore and those effects. It's a mix between Evil Dead and top notch effects that are hard to distinguish from real life injuries (and in that perspective I hope i haven't watched a movie sneaking in pieces from snuff films).

So in conclusion: I would not recommend anyone to watch movies like these before theyve passed 18 years of age, or even then. It'll stay with you in the subconscious for a bit and that is the disturbing thing, not the movie of itself. -This is not great cinema, there is however a story, but the thing that can draw you to watch this is the effects (especially as they are on a budget), that goes from aced to classical Evil Dead.

When talent surpass budget, and a genre is reinvented.
ForgottenWorlds13 October 2012
This guys/ company/ filmmakers/artist, or whatever we want to call them, have just created a new genre. That's it.

The story: In a futuristic country/city, a dictatorship manage everything, Criminals commit suicide thanks to a special radio-wave system, and their corpses become tasty hamburger or bloody energy drink. But something goes wrong and they all become demented super criminals.

Critic: The story is original but not unique, basically just a mixture of Soilent Green and the videgame Oddsword, Blade Runner and some of zombie movies. What is incredible here is the style... sorry: the STYLE. Italian were great to reinvent styles like western and horror (look at Fulci and Leone) and this guys are doing the same here. 80's style + Japan cartoon culture = 10 times better.

The visual is just art here, and the editing keep you drugged for the entire movie. The flashbacks are presented like frenetic digital files, and the background story explained with dictatorship advertisements, and it worked in a perfectly, killing all the dead point similar sci-fi movies had. The action sequence are so well edited, they looks like a manga, fast, extreme and they leave you breathless. Special effects are over the top, digital and practical, and the blood and gore sequences just 20 out of 10. The movie don't present good characters, only bad and sadistic characters for the entire movie. (This reflect what this world is turning on. I really loved that) A continuity of bizarre moments, kills, mutations, action sequences and funny moments throughout the entire movie, and that's worked perfectly. I suppose this guys spent about 1/100 of what big production spent normally to create movies like Dredd and Battleship. I just say: SHAME on you big production, and learn from this guys.

I don't know if any person involved in this movie will read this but: My best wishes for your future projects. My complete and sincere support from Germany.

Action, blood and 80's style?? YEEEEAH I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!
ilbucopeloso21 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
STORYLINE: In a city full of criminals, the Authority (a dictatorship composed by crazy masked peoples) invented a wave system that can convert the killers into suicidal. All those criminals corpse are used by bikers (the Authority policeman) to feed the masses. Everything looks quite, until a man (that looks like a deformed version of Prototype the video game) mutate under the wave effect. He just become stronger and infective, and transforms all the people in super killers. It's will be a mess, and no one will survive.

MY REVIEW: This movie is an adrenaline shot from the very first scene. The movie open with two butcher that are laughing watching a fat criminal cutting himself with a knife. Then they shot him in the middle of his eyes with some sort of gun, and his brain and eyes just squirt out the skull. And I tough immediately: that's what I call a cool begin :D The violence level in Tater City is just over the top. After the title end, a circus of violence starts, blood and guts, crazy advertisements, and the story of those bikers that try to capture the Prototype guy, with crazy flashback. It's like the movie is a collection of little puzzle clips, that compose a bigger great paint.

-During all the movie, you will see something violent or nasty, a murder or more than one, and everything happen in front of your eyes. I monitored that it happens every 40 seconds. But this is not a sick movie like the torture porn movies, it is more a blast of action and funny moments, and blood is just essential here.

-The practical effect are awesome, I'm not a fan of computer graphic, but digital effects improves them seriously: sometime the amputations looks almost real

-I appreciated the cheesy costumes, and the futuristic technology too, it's cheesy but absolutely not bad, and it is very original. Some kind of medical kit with hot metal inside to close your wounds, flying gas elevators, super motorbike, shock guns, and other stuff that let you feel the futuristic city on your skin.

-The digital effects are lights years away from any other low budget movie, some effects look exactly like the effects you can see in big productions (something remembered me "district 9" and "the cube")

-The story is not original and pretty stupid, but it works well to keep you entertained during the total 80's massacre, and crazy action, the first and only purpose of this movie, like quoted in the cover.

-Differently from the first movie Adam Chaplin (that I love immensely, but that in some part was a little bit slow) there is never a dull moment. The action is everywhere: the editing is fast and crazy, and also the advertisements look like action sequences.

ONE OF THE BEST SEQUENCE IN THE MOVIE: All the butchers inside a human slaughterhouse become crazy, under the Prototype guy influence. They start to kill each other: some rip off their own arms, heads are smashed with bare hands, skull bashed in with metal pipes, throat sliced with knifes... and many similar "funny" stuff. Than arrive a bikers with a special shotgun that shots explosive dart... and everything become just a total blood bath. To conclude, the Prototype guy take a chainsaw and cut him in half, from head to ass, then he escape from the slaughterhouse with a truck, smashing heads and body. And I was like "HELL YEAH!!!"

FINAL THOUGH: I watched it 4 times in 5 days, and I will watch it again with my friends, it's never boring and there are so many different sequences, so many details, that you can't remember them all. So you can always be entertained by this movie. I really really loved and enjoined it, and I suggest it to every 80's and action lovers, not only to splatter fans, because the blood here is mostly funny, not disturbing, and the general action is just outstanding. Of course if you are looking for a movie with a deep story, awesome acting, stay away from this movie, it could hurt you.

VOTE 8.5/10 (rounded to 9)

Something Wicked-er's Overview of Taeter City 2012💀
vapingchillies13 January 2019
Italian splatter kings Necrostorm scored a cult hit with their first film Adam Chaplin (2011) a combination of Manga / Anime classic Fist of the North Star, The Crow and Das Komabrutale Duell. This their second feature Taeter City has a similar extreme splatter style but this time goes the way of the retro Sci-fi Horror sub-genre. Set in the future the world is controlled by a Governmental dictatorship known simply as "The Authority" who regularly remind the populace through public announcements "Respect the Authority and Laws and you'll be just fine". Crime rate is nonexistent in Taeter City thanks to radio waves named the Zeed System that targets would be criminals and cause them to kill themselves in very nasty ways they then are processed at mega slaughter houses and have their flesh turned into food and blood into energy drinks which are then sold to law abiding citizens in Authority ran McDonald-esq restaurants know as Taeter Burger. Eating and farming animals is totally outlawed punishable by... Well you get it!

Everything is going peacefully in Taeter City until the radio waves have an abstract reaction on one fellow played by Director, FX guy and head of Necrostorm the awesome looking Giulio De Santi, instead of Suicidal he becomes Homicidal, develops super strength and can admit rays from his mouth that turns others into Homicidal/suicidal Super killers. When a scientist explains this he adds "Don't ask me why, it's Fu*king nonsense, it's all Fu*king Nonsense" Yes Doc it most certainly is but all the better for it.

This film doesn't really play for laughs it is presented very seriously and is all the more hilarious and fun because of this. This film promises "An 80's Movies Vibe, insane technology, Manga style crazy action, Adrenaline, Violence, Blood, Blood and again Blood" and boy it delivers on all those fronts. Delivering some of the most brutal creative Splatter action ever caught on film it has to be seen to be believed these effects are achieved by combining Practical with CGI which works a treat. Gore lovers will squeal with delight at the many graphic head crushings and Chainsaw dismemberments! 👻
