VIEWS ON FILM review of My NIghtmare Office Affair
burlesonjesse55 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A screenplay that gets recycled constantly ("I just wanted to let you know how impressive your work is"). The nosy, best friend co-worker. The hitting of someone over the head with any object. We're getting into the Lifetime zone people and its latest helping is 2022's My Nightmare Office Affair.

"Affair" is Lifetime network at its most predictable with the same eventual outcome as a bettor covering the point spread via a Crimson Tide football game. Meh. Kaila York directs at a decent clip even though she's sadly channeling her inner David DeCoteau (another Lifetime lifer). Yup, My Nightmare Office Affair doesn't suck you in nor is it really compelling. It's basically patternless schlock for the schlock jocks (male or female).

Now is there any redeemable thing about "Affair" that I can compound here? Actually yes. The musical score by Kevin Blumenfeld is techno bliss (it really is). The problem is that it creates tension in your head that doesn't fully spill onto the screen.

And are the actors in My Nightmare Office Affair game for game's sake? They are but their character arcs are a little off. I mean you've got a project manager who works for a sort of pirate company whose office space is sparse, you've got a failed yoga instructor wife who probably doesn't need to work anyway, and you've got an Internet company boss who mysteriously kills her father and is somehow an expert with the assaulting of needles. Wha?? What's next, Vivica A. Fox showing up as a next door neighbor with a menthol in her mouth and 5-6 cats? Ugh.

My Nightmare Office Affair is about just what the title says. A young man has a fling with his female superior and when he tries to break it off, she goes cray cray (which I already knew about 10 minutes in). There's no love "affair" here.

Another utterly ridiculous Lifetime production.

The one thing I will say about Lifetime stories is that they do provide some really nice looking suburban homes and on occasion some really nice looking actors. But outside of that, Lifetime produces the most utterly ridiculous story telling, horrible acting and much to be desired in viewing content. No one is truly ever believable in these stories, the actors are super plastic and insultingly laughable. This film was about company executive woman, who wanted a child but wanted it from her coworker whose a married man. Why? Because she's a fkn psycho bi@tch...and that's the whole story premise. Like I said......laughable.

The Fury

Warning: Spoilers
One of our favorite actresses, Laurie "Lifetime" Fortier, stars in this chilling tale of deadly office politics. As a teen, Laurie's character Lisa Wolf murdered her self-centered father by poisoning his liquor, then stood and morbidly watched him expire. Now, she is a successful CEO running a tech company called Conexofi, but little has changed in her disposition.

Lisa also has a criminal record as she faced criminal assault charges in juvenile court. She won a prominent place in Silicon Valley due primarily to her expertise in "symbolic logic." Now in a position of power, Lisa is exploiting the males under her supervision and using her own technology in the process.

In Greek mythology, the Furies were deities who rose from the depths of the earth to exact revenge for heinous crimes. In the case of Lisa, her motivation is much more prosaic: she wants a child!

The most angelic couple imaginable is Nick and Jennifer Sherman and their little daughter Juliana (Ju). The actors were terrific in creating the perfect husband and wife.

It was sad to watch Lisa get her tentacles into such a beautiful relationship. While the narrative structure was by-the-numbers with few elements of surprise, the script made extensive use of high-tech gadgetry. There was also a clever revelation in the denouement about the proper way in which Lisa could have fulfilled her dream of having a baby, if only she had used more of that symbolic logic.

One of the better lifetime movies out there
erindesantos9 November 2022
It's a story that's been done a million times, but it moved along really well and was visually beautiful. What stood out most to me was the male lead who definitely carried the film and had a great character arc (not to mention the fact that he is gorgeous). I loved the chemistry between him and his wife, which made it that much more painful to watch it crumble to pieces as the movie went along. I also thought the chemistry was strong between Nick and his boss Lisa. It's nothing groundbreaking and you can probably figure out what's going to happen within the first 15min of the movie, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Laurie F is good at these roles, but this movie got on my nerves towards the end.

This movie went downhill when she started her revenge. It happens every time in these movies so watching yet another vengeful woman accuse her mark of assaulting her got boring and annoying really quickly. It's so cliche and very Lifetime. Also, I hate in these movies how the accused just go along with it. Nick had absolutely no reason to open his shirt at the police station nor allow pictures to be taken. This movie got terrible really quickly. And true to Lifetime, of course Lisa is believed and Nick doesn't have a chance with this female detective who is barely interested in his side. This is by bar the worst part of the movie. Now the "detective" is accusing him of a murder/disappearance and she is pretty much displaying everything people hate about law enforcement. Nick should have gotten up and left. This whole thing and then Lisa's behavior after it (drugging and falsely imprisoning Nick) just shows how many in this situation think they can get away with this (and sadly often do). There's a movie with Jon Cor and Adrienne Frantz that had the plotline I hoped this movie had. The part of the story also ended up being pointless because it went exactly nowhere. Don't even think he told his wife, he was at the police station.

Some good: Really liked the relationship between Nick and his wife. The two had chemistry and made a believable relationship, as did their little girl. I think it would have been a twist to have him actually confess to his wife, bc that is actually his personality. Not that it mattered in the end, but I liked how he had zero interest in Lisa, like at all. Until of course she manipulated her way into his head (he was still wrong, but she set things up). I also liked his friendship with Cassie and how she played into things in the end.

This movie is a lot like Your Boyfriend is Mine, except in that one, the cliche assault accusation didn't materialize although nearly everything else is the same conceptually. Another thing about this movie is what did Lisa expect? That she would actually get her hands on the little girl?

This movie annoyed me so much. I started FF just to finally get to the climax. There was not enough dialogue/scene time given to Lisa's motivation to justify her behavior. The movie could have at least given her a tragic miscarriage, but having her be this way because the man she was having an affair with didn't want more kids (with someone not his wife)? Not a good reason.

SO TERRIBLE!
privatemiss2 May 2023
I can't believe anyone gave this more than 1 star. The acting, the main actor in particular was awful! So monotone & expressionless. Buddy, acting is not for you! I don't need for a movie to be brilliant, just entertaining with some decent acting....if you're after the same thing, give this a miss. The acting is so bad it's more infuriating than entertaining to watch. When you couldn't care less if the main characters get killed off you know you're watching a cr@ppy movie. Luckily I had this on in the background while I was working so I didn't waste all of my undivided attention on this drivel.
