Well, the second season opener for "Scandal" sure fires on all cylinders in regards to keeping the story compellingly topical and grippingly revealing. So Quinn Perkins is actually someone else whose identity was changed thanks to certain folks helping her out. How Olivia Pope and Huck play into this is quite fascinating! The conclusion leaves an open door of speculation, quite a cliffhanger that answers little and only encourages more questions. A bomb put in a package, sent to an office, that goes off killing six was used against "Quinn" to frame her, she claims. But who would do that and why? That alone still haunts the ongoing story and keeps a specific secret about Quinn, Olivia, and Huck from us (which is the point of drawing us in and keeping us watching). A Congressman (single, mind you) is recorded having a sexual encounter with a young woman, and he calls on Olivia and her team to help him. The trial for Quinn is not going well and word has it that the jury is ready to hang her and the Prosecuting DA has developed a rather successful circumstantial case against her. A miracle is needed and Olivia makes a certain call that goes in the favor of her client! How she is able to change the results of what seems to be a death sentence for Quinn, as members of Olivia's team doubt the credibility of her client, is quite surprising. How Pope helps Pres Fitz come up with a game plan to buy him some time from invading Sudan with US forces when other countries fail to join him in condemning their treatment of children and innocents also is showcased in a subplot which shows strains between the Commander in Chief and the First Lady. The First Lady wants to milk her pregnancy for all its worth so that her husband can get a second term, and use her media influence to possibly sway Fitz into attacking the militants in Sudan. Cy also believes this Sudanese plan is a good one due to the political capital it would draw for the President in re-election (saving children and use of military as a means to condemn Sudan's heinous treatment of their young), so Pope is Fitz' opposing viewpoint in how to counterattack the pressure placed on him to make a decision. How Pope convinces the Congressman to use the ugly media blitz against his sexual activities into a positive pulpit to display his political viewpoints for his "Great State of Rhode Island" just shows how skilled she is at turning around messes and correcting crises
turning a negative into a positive, a disadvantage into an advantage. The Stephen character of the first season is written off the show as he "moves to Boston after marrying his fiancé to be a normal person." Olivia's "behind the scenes sabotage" of the case for her client in how the judge reverses a decision to accept motion that disembarks evidence that is circumstantial as it relates to her relationship with David should be an intriguing one going forward...he seems ready to revenge himself against the embarrassment she has caused him.
