Charming and honest; outdoes the source material, as the best adaptations sometimes do.

I have no idea why this has such a low rating. Anti-Russian sentiment? A while ago I was supposed to study for a big test one summer. It was lonely and the studying was grueling. This show kept me mentally awake and alive and interested in what I was doing. The characters are charming, and frankly I like it better than the American show because there are episodes with plots that feel more like a soap opera or "slice of life" rather than a comedy, which is nice sometimes; and instead of ticking off the boxes for common sitcom episode plots, there are many that don't "follow the rules". If the writers had an idea, the episode got written. It's pretty great, helped by the fact that the actors are perfectly cast and seem to genuinely enjoy playing their roles. These people are big names in the Russian and former Soviet world; it's still normal to come home in east Europe and have them on your screen for an hour or two around dinnertime. Don't let the weird 4/10 rating average on this site scare you away if you have the chance to watch it!

Russian adaptation

Warning: Spoilers
The series "Voroniny" is a Russian version of the world famous and quite popular American sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond." Admittedly, Russian adaptation usually does not shine with originality. Moreover, they are often simply not distinguishable at all. But in this case, the creators managed to bring a Russian flavor, interesting ideas, details recognizable Russian audience. Every good actor in his role: George Dronov, Ekaterina Volkova, Stanislav Duzhnikov Anna Frolovtseva Boris Klyuyev, Julia Kuvarzina. All of the characters interact in pairs, as well as collectively. Separately want to mention Boris Klyuyev as the father / grandfather, his acting game and characters are inimitable. Unlike the original sitcom, "Voroniny" is not stopped in nine seasons. Currently (2015), the series has 15 seasons. Humor remained at the same level, it is very pleasing. In the new series like episodes in which characters go fishing and pick up mushrooms. In the latter, there were running around in the woods by a bear. Also, in recent seasons buys a large family cottage, which often go. "Voroniny" one of the best Russian sitcoms and the best adaptation of all that I saw. Enjoy watching!
