Waste
blaze_5820 October 2015
I hardly write any reviews, in fact I'm sure that this is my first review on IMDb. only compulsion for me to write for the first time is that this movie. it simply inspired me to let you all folks know about this movie. I have seen over 1000 movies, but this one really...really...reaaaally stood out. so much out that i was out after 15 mins. Opening is OK, build up is okay. but then it falls flat on face and nose smooshes inside and brains comes out. if background score and bad dialogues were not enough. The actors made me think how precious my life is. maybe they were told to act that way. but it was no way to justice the characters. i had high hopes for the movie when i saw the names being borrowed from The Guardians of Galaxies. Ronan Pierce, Karina, Luna etc etc.. i expected a certain degree of seriousness... they failed me and i as an audience failed them as i could not sit through the movie.

watch at your own risk and people who liked it, you are welcome to persuade me to complete the movie.

This Is Just Unwatchable
jackhuntermtl20 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Its plain awful.

Script is just terrible.

Acting is maybe OK for a first year student film, which this does not appear to be.

Story is extremely predictable nonsense. Which I do not really mind in a B film, but its just so badly done here that it's like pouring on salt onto a burned meal.

Characters are not believable.

Film is also very insulting to all women out there. Main character is supposed to be on a rampage vs woman beaters of some kind, but it comes off as a guy who could not get laid even with a prostitute having a fantasy about being a misogynistic chauvinistic friendless (he actually has one 'friend' he yells at, which would never work) sociopath.

Yeah, we suspend disbelief quite a bit to enjoy movies sometimes, but this one requires being probably high on drugs to enjoy.

So bad it's funny
siderite3 June 2016
I am happy to report that this is one of those marvelous movies that is so bad that it becomes hilarious after a while. If you are not into getting wasted and laughing your ass off at stupidly over the top acted, badly directed, ridiculously ripped off films, avoid it at all costs. Other than that... this is only the beginning.

Try to think of Kung Fury mixed with Batman, Sin City and all bad cop revenge movies ever made, but so freakishly awful that you can't help bursting out in laughter at random. I kid you not: the term drinking responsibly has been created for this kind of movie, since not drinking when watching it would be insane!

Enjoy!

Ronan, your tales are stale......
FlashCallahan20 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Ronan Pierce is fuelled by a tragic past, and the recent abduction of his wife McKenzie has Ronan's appetite for vengeance unbounded.

Searching for clues, Ronan unleashes his rage on a city full of psychopaths, gangs, corruption and the unrivalled evil of the Luna Cartel.

Responsible for both his daughter's death and his wife's abduction, the Luna Cartel enslave thousands of young beautiful women from around the world and harvest organs from all of it's other victims.

Joined by his partner Rex and a circus clown named Karina, Ronan paints the town red in his search for bloody justice.....

What happens when you write the film, produce the film, and star in the film? You get a vanity project that may make sense to the makers and their friends, but makes absolutely no sense to anyone else whatsoever.

It's basically a rip off of Sin City, with out hero roaming the night streets looking for answers whilst he should be looking for a pharmacist.

Because that voice is just too gravelly for its own good...........unless he's trying to channel Christian Bales Batman.

It's poorly acted, poorly written, and the look Ronan has on his face every time he kills someone or watches another torture DVD, he looks as if he's about to go into a Grand Mal seizure.

Don't be fooled by the poster, it's Grindhouse roots are not there, it's just an excuse for what appear to be loads of friends and Kane Hodder to swear as many times as they can in ninety minutes, and it's as boring as trying to remember the full title of this tripe.

Insanely Entertaining Dark Rock n Roll Ride
filmfuzzdealer4 June 2016
This is one out there film, and it knows it! I'm not sure if I've ever seen anything quite like it. Kind of a strange mash-up of action and horror, this film that follows an over the top cop looking for payback (with a TON of really fun psychos along the way). Based on a fictional city really brought to life using really cool CG, and graphic novel/Neo-Noir style cinematography ( a la Sin City, The Crow, Dark City etc), FURY: The Tales of Ronan Pierce is one hell of a ride! The film doesn't give you much of a breather, and if you like psychedelic rock mixed with cool dub-step, crazy visuals, over the top gritty characters, sex, drugs, DEATH, and rock n roll - check it out! Definitely a midnight film befitted for a rowdy bar crowd in need of some serious on screen violence - Bottoms up!

21st century b-action is born
shide_8521 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Slight spoiler warning, nothing that will ruin the plot line. EDIT: Knocked it down from a weak 7 to a strong 6.

Let me begin with explaining why I give it a 7; it is simply what this somewhat clumsy attempt borders onto (and somewhat creates with the cinematography), an easier and more clear cut path to resurrecting b-actions in the 21st century (this is not a serious attempt at a serious action movie, that much is obvious).

Short version: A mimicing of Kung Fury (2015), watch it for the fun of it - not as a serious action flick.

•WARNING• This movie contains borderline snuff-film gore and grit, the moral of actions and violence might be upsetting to some.

Long version: In the wake of modern cinematography, better sound and more intricate plots, movies are often produced with a sub-plot or hidden meaning, here I viewed something that follows up on movies such as Crank, Stretch and other similar movies that pay homage to the 80's and 90's action movies. This movie however, heavily lends features from Kung Fury (2015), Drive (2011), with a base in the reiteration of the Batman Saga and less known movies concerning the cinematography. Not to forget the small tidbits lent from Dexter (2006).

The strong-point is clearly the cinematography - much like Tim Burton in Sleepy Hollow (1999) a complete new world is created, that is not reality but not fully fiction, in a skilled manner.

The weak-point is the breaking-point between using a sound heavily inspired by Batman (2005-2012) and the style of the movie. The loudness of the lines increases the impression of the homage/retro-style used but also at times causes a tear between a fluent movie experience and the overall impression. The upside is that this is the route for 21st century b-action movie (to me), moreso than the Sin-City style (2005) even though they border into each other this has more realistic grit but lacks the classic (or attempt to be such) one-liners in the same extent.

Pro's • Cineamtography (really good bang for buck) • Sound (whoever came up with mimicing Christians Bale's Batman voice added a layer that makes it clear that this is a retro/homage movie, if there was any doubt before that) • Gore and grit (even if it's partly badly made and contextually irrationally so, it both makes it clear it's fake while containing a reasonably amount to underline the psychopathic tendencies of the perpetrators)

Con's • Overall script (characters does not act rationally, which either is due to paying homage to earlier movies or a bad script) • Fitting the pieces together.

*It is gory, it seems to somewhat describe the new slavetrade and some of the hidden aristocratic psychopathic tendencies.

Fun Full Speed Flic with no pretensions
genrefanatic4 June 2016
WOW! After coming across the unique retro artwork for this film by Tom Hodge, I immediately put this one in my queue. SO Happy to say I did! This is one messed the heck up action film, and I say that in the best possible way! The story takes place in a place called Harbor City. Much like Frank Rodriguez did on a much larger budget, these indie film makers were able to create a whole new fictional world, and the results are terrific. The story is about a vigilante cop (Ronan Pierce) that would do anything and everything to find his kidnapped wife, and the result is a bombardment of some truly creatively grotesque payback and retribution. Given the way each of the villains are built up, the results are twisted and sometimes funny as hell. The cinematography is first rate, the acting is fitting for what the filmmakers are trying to accomplish (there are a couple huge standouts in the characters Lazarus and Lodder), and I REALLY enjoyed was the soundtrack. Almost always present (which you may or may not like), it is dark dingy rock n roll with a Nine Inch Nails /Chemical Brothers type vibe, perfect for the on-screen visuals. I can't say there is any direct comparison to this film, but if you enjoy your comic heroes dark and a little deranged, this one's for you - the anti-Marvel!
