It’s not a huge secret that January hasn’t always been the kindest month to horror movies, as it has become a dumping ground of sorts for genre fare over the last several years. That’s why it’s great to see a film like The Forest come along right about now; it probably won’t be the most revolutionary excursion in terror to come along in theaters in 2016, but it is an incredibly well-made effort from first time feature filmmaker Jason Zada and features strong performances from both Natalie Dormer and Taylor Kinney, all making for a solid and creepy start to the new year of horror.
The Forest follows Sara Price (Dormer) as she heads into the Suicide Forest (or the Aokigahara Forest as it is known as officially), which is located near Mount Fuji in Japan, to find her twin sister Jess (also played by Dormer...

In the upcoming thriller The Forest, we follow a young woman by the name of Sara (Natalie Dormer) as she heads into the Suicide Mountains of the Aokigahara Forest in Japan to find her twin sister who mysteriously disappeared there. Two's company and three's a crowd--but four can soar! At least that's what the good folks at haRFMFul Productions, Sick Puppy Pictures, MOnsterworks66 and Lion Arch Productions believe as they prep a three-feature slate to shoot in Louisiana later this year or early in 2016!
Rycke Foreman (haRMFul), Phil Condit (Sick Puppy), Maria Olsen (MO66) and Lionel Archuleta (Lion Arch) are developing a slate of three horror-comedies for production in Louisiana and are presently attaching cast and finalizing budgets before approaching La. investors. The three films, Happy Ending, Hacked Off and Grizzled! (#Hehog) are all zany romps through HorCom Land featuring lovely ladies, buckets of blood, hunky heroes and terrifyingly funny Big Bads.
The films may all live in the same genre, but they each have their own special stamp of entertaining insanity:

Every horror fan has their own idea of what’s authentically frightening, but for me personally, successful horror goes straight for the kill by getting to the root of what scares us on a primal, inherently human level. It touches nerves and stirs fears that live deep inside all of us. We’re unsettled, disturbed, and maybe even provoked as a result. Children of Sorrow is the type of film that successfully does all this and more by drawing us into the lives of some truly fascinating characters.
The film introduces us to cult leader Simon Leach (Bill Oberst Jr.) and a group of desperate teens he has assembled together in a Mexico desert compound to help him realize his personal vision of faith and spiritual growth. The latest member of the group is Ellen (Hannah Levien), a young woman searching for her sister who...

Yes, you read that right! The king of B-movies, Bill Oberst, Jr., is going to be the star of a new college lecture series designed to help audience members enhance their own lives and careers. And we can almost guarantee there will be no blood shed onstage.
Oberst is a phenomenal and prolific actor that absolutely took the horror world by storm after he launched into the limelight with his appearance in the Emmy Award winning film Take This Lollipop. Since then he's gone on to star in scores of films and amass a wealth of knowledge on how to succeed in an uber-competitive world. Oberst feels like the lessons he's learned during his acting career can easily translate and be used by people no matter what line of work they're in.
The event will be held in Missouri in the Baldwin Hall Auditorium on the Truman University campus, March 18 at 7p.

The name Jason Zada probably isn't know to most readers, but his work might be. The commercial director made a splash in 2011 when he created "Take this Lollipop," a Facebook app and video that tested people's willingness to give out private information over the internet. The interactive experience was a runaway hit, gaining national exposure and terrifying millions of Facebook users.
Zada is moving on to bigger things (as in: longer projects) with his feature debut, The Forest. David Goyer developed the story (which was re-written by novelist-turned-screenwriter Sarah Cornwell) and will produce. The Forest is centered around Japan's Aokigahara Forest, the second most popular place in the world to commit suicide. This, paired with a lack of wildlife and an eerie silence have led many to the belief that the forest is haunted. No further details were offered by Deadline, who broke the news, other than it is described as a "supernatural horror film.

Last April we learned that production company Lava Bear and Dark Knight trilogy scribe David S. Goyer were teaming up for a supernatural thriller, which was untitled at that point in time. More details have come down the pike today so read on for details.
As per Deadline, Jason Zada has been tapped to direct the film, which has been given the title The Forest. The story for the Japan-set supernatural thriller was hatched by Goyer, with a rewrite from Sarah Cornwell. Goyer and Lava Bear will produce.
This will mark the feature film debut of Zada, who has previously directed music videos, commercials, and short films such as the award-winning Take This Lollipop.
Though we don't know much about the film at the moment, we do know that it will be set in Japan's highly creepy Aokigahara forest (aka 'Suicide Forest'), which you can read about over on Wikipedia.

Check it out below, plus Zada's video for Linkin Park's "Lost in the Echo." "The Forest" is eyeing a production start in the first half of 2014. It's penned by novelist turned screenwriter Sarah Cornwell, whose debut novel "What I Had Before I Had You" has its street date in January. Horror fans don't grant new performers legendary status on a regular basis. We cling to our heroes like treasures and limit inclusion into the upper echelon of the genre to a very select few. But people do manage to break through and win our undying respect and admiration, and Bill Oberst, Jr., is doing just that right now.
After appearing in the Academy Award-winning short film Take This Lollipop (if, for some ungodly reason, you haven't seen it yet, absolutely check it out Asap!), Oberst's popularity exploded; and he now has over 100 films to his credit, most within the past five years. My favorite line from this trailer: “The blood and guts fly out….the camera does not stop rolling!”…Well, let’s hope not!
The movie’s lead actor, who is slicing his way through more than half-naked nubile bodies is Bill Oberst Jr. If you were at the screening of the St. Louis-lensed shocker Coyote last month at Mx Theater, you saw that film’s star Mr. Oberst who is currently swinging for the title of “Hardest Working Man In Horror” with no less than twelve major roles in independent horror films this year. Bill’s most famous role was as honest Abe in Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies (2012), which, though not quite as good as Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter, was far superior than that boring-ass Speilberg movie.
The Los Angeles-based actor has just arrived in the woods of Kentucky to start shooting his 6th feature film of the year (The...

Early concept photos for the upcoming film Lord Bateman featuring Bill Oberst Jr. as the demonic lead character, with Anna Pullig and Alice Orozco, have been released by Dismal Productions.
Oberst states that the shots may not represent a final look for the character, but were a way to "get him up on his feet and play with the idea."
The Lord Bateman concept shoot took place in Hollywood, CA. The photographers were Ed Thomas and Spencer Filichia. The demon's make-up was designed by Oberst and Marky Andrews.
Oberst, whose performance in the horror-themed Facebook application Take This Lollipop won a Daytime Emmy Award in June, says the current screenplay outline places the action in 16th century Europe. "Lord Bateman is a man of royal lineage who is plagued by visions of himself as a demon. He comes to believe that he actually is a demon,...

One of the hardest working actors in Hollywood right now is horror favorite Bill Oberst Jr. (Take this Lollipop). In an exclusive, it's been revealed to MoreHorror from an inside source that Oberst has been cast in director Randy R. Fabert's upcoming werewolf thriller, Autumn Moon.
Oberst will be playing an emergency room doctor who gets caught up in some of the werewolf action. Director Fabert promises that Autumn Moon will be "the most violent werewolf film ever made". Here's to hoping that statement comes true.
Oberst, whose starring turn in the Take this Lollipop app for Facebook recently won a Daytime Emmy award, will join the stellar cast which includes cult actress Lynn Lowry (The Crazies, Cat People), Joe Kidd, Randy Fabert, Nathaniel Grauwelman, Iabou Windimere, Jocelyn Tanis, Richard Aughpin, Larry Combs, Gerri Sutyak, Sonny Burnette, and Michael Peake.
